      @@jvh22a Unfortunately no I don't plan to do a video about the whole build. We spent a large chunk of April putting it together an customizing it and I wanted to focus on the customizations since that is what is unique. I will be doing another video showcasing the peripherals, but that is a little ways off yet. I did find this video which will show you basically how this all goes together, and he even takes the motors apart so much more in depth than we we did there. If I found it correctly the 6DOF system is 5000 dollars 😢. It’s still a bit inaccessible for me… but I’m extremely happy to see these set ups appearing and hopefully soon enough we will be able to see more “budget” versions 😅

      Yep that is about right. The great thing is you can start with a $1500 H2 and then expand it up to an H6 as your budget allows. Probably not going to see much cheaper options out there anytime soon... Most motion platforms are in the $10,000 range or higher. Hi, thanks for watching our stuff. Wiring the P6 should be pretty simple and you just have to follow the instructions that DOF Provides here on page 28 docs.google.com/document/d/19JPHNERz48ffyJ1KOr9Xg9BIXNPWKnjqlx9bllXLpbI/edit#heading=h.xfpt22q3vec7 Depending on which configuration you have (look at the back motor orientation, you will see the difference in the diagram). You just plug the correct motor into the correct port on the box and you should be done. This is one of the easiest parts of assembling the rig so I don't expect you will have any issue. Please let me know if I can help more.

    I've been looking at these for a few months now. Thinking of going H3, and then upgrading to H6 later on. Question: All the setup videos show people putting it together, but I haven't found one that shows connecting to the PC. So how does this connect? is it a single usb connection or are there multiple connections? Thanks!

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  9 місяців тому

      Hi acdiver81, From what I remember the H3 connects with a single USB as it uses a single controller box. The H6 needs two boxes so it is 2 USB cables. You will also need to plug in any peripherals, and I use a powered USB Hub on the rig and plug all that into it. So in the end I have 3 USB cables going to the computer on mine. Also the newer units come a lot more assembled than the old ones did so that should make it easier for you to put together. And just FYI, I'll have a 5% discount code available in our next video that will be releasing on Thursday if that helps too. It is another interview with Igor the DOF Reality CEO. Please let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for watching... I hope our videos helped you in your decision making process.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  3 роки тому

      I'm lucky and very seldom feel any motion sickness. Dogfighting in IL2 when I'm really throwing the plane around will start to get me a little but not too bad. Unfortunately if this type of ride gets you like at amusement parks, it will probably get you on the H6. I have a friend like that and he almost instantly got sick driving in the H6. Of course there is always Dramamine if you really want to try it.

    Any chance we could get a video in the future of some common sliders (profiles) you use with your setup in SRS studio for a few MSFS aircraft, say a cessna 172, 152, maybe a few others? Have tried the guides but still end up just settling on the "archer" one and very little motion smoothing on the main slider, at the very least, but i feel it could be better, seeing some live examples could help. :)

    • @markm75
      @markm75 11 місяців тому

      @@GYGOtv Ah this is perfect thanks, curious though, how did you arrive at the values on the right (max telemetry i think), those numbers are still a mystery to me, i have seen that pt2 video which was good btw, i guess the rest of the sliders you just end up at by trial and error (left to right).

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  11 місяців тому

      @@markm75So Max Telemetry sets the number that tells the motion to move at its maximum range. A good example is if your platform physically moves to a maximum 10 degrees for example, and you are flying a fighter jet, you can set the max telemetry to say 30 and that would tell the motion platform to max out its 10 degree movement when the jet is roughly at 30 degrees pitch. Basically the lower the number, the quicker the platform will move to the extremes. For example I have Heave set to like 6, because when I land on the ground or the carrier deck, I want it to hit hard. Its a little bit of art and science to get everything where you want it and everyone will have different preferences. Hope that helps answer your question at least a little bit?

  • @markm75
    @markm75 2 місяці тому

    Do you happen to have an MSFS profile for the extra 300 by chance that works well? I spent an hour trying to fine tune mine on the h6 sfu and nothing made it smooth (diode mod already done too), often juddering as you make fast turns with the horizon sideways or yaw that almost kicks me out of the chair onto the floor (or maybe sway unsure), tried raising max telemetries, adding in smoothing overall, smoothing individually too, lowering the fine tuning sliders on each like pitch/roll, i think lowering those helped the most but i had to go pretty extreme.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  2 місяці тому

      Sorry don't have the "extra 300", not even sure what that is. Juddering with fast turns sounds odd... is it only on that profile and everything else is ok? Almost sounds like a calibration issue or something is coming loose. Try this one I have for the Cessna 152 drive.google.com/file/d/1klXxUvyHORKdIWne6Qs3NJtMgiuFITHK/view?usp=sharing (you can try some of the other ones in the directory too if that doesn't work). Should give you a decent experience on any of the planes. Let me know how that goes and we can work from there.

    • @markm75
      @markm75 Місяць тому

      @@GYGOtv thanks ill try that. Slower aircraft are OK. The extra is a free one in msfs. Highly aerobatic. First time I've tried it on the rig since getting the rig.

    • @markm75
      @markm75 Місяць тому

      @@GYGOtv That was a bit better with your settings. Though i cant recall on the telemetry if the numbers should be high or low for aerobatic aircraft, but this is good enough for now, it mostly doesnt throw me out of the plane haha

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  Місяць тому

      @@markm75 Try turning up the Overall Smoothing and see if that helps, maybe try 75 just to see and you can turn it down if that is too much. In general the lower the Max Telemetry, the quicker it moves... numbers are dependent on each game and each aircraft as to the "right" amount.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Joshua, thanks for the question. So we just changed to the SFU drives from the original. On the original there wasn't much to do, I checked the bolt tightness of the rig about every month or two and that was about it. I was told the SFU gearboxes don't need much maintenance either, silicone spray every 100 hours of use and keep the dust from building up on the screw drives and that's about it. Of course I will continue to check to make sure the bolts stay tight just like before. Pretty low upkeep on the unit so far.

I learned from using my steering stand that if it wasn't easy and quick for me to setup then I was usually too lazy to actually play if I wanted to do it just casually. Crap it has been awhile and I think the rigs have changed... I'm pretty sure they were M8 bolts but honestly since you use a nut with them you could probably get away with the Non-Metric size too. Length will depend on the seat and if you use a slider, etc. Hope that helps.

    can you offer some suggestions on setting up the SRS software. I've been having a horrible time trying to dial in the settings. I'm not really feeling acceleration or deceleration or jumps when I crest a hill.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  3 роки тому

      Hi James,
      So there is a lot to tuning the software and a lot of it has to do with personal feel. First I'd recommend you go to www.simracingstudio.com/forum/motion-profiles-1 and see if there are any profiles that fit the games you are playing. They are great starting points that you can then tweak to fit your personal preference.
      I'll do my best to give you some personal tips here too.
      So obviously if you are not feeling much movement you want to make sure the "Max Angle" is set to 100 and also play with the boost settings (start with like 30 and adjust from there). For the individual axis you most likely want to put everything at 15 to 20 so you get the most movement out of the motors. The dark grey box next to the slider (Max Telemetry) basically controls how quickly the motors move to their extreme positions and can have a big effect of the feeling of motion for that specific axis.
      I'll do my best to explain this in the following example. Lets say we have a prop plane and we set the Pitch Slider to 18 and the Max Telemetry (dark grey box) to 45. When we pull back on the stick, the motion simulator tilts the seat back continuously until the plane in the game is say at a 60 degree angle (just an example, might not be that actual number). Everything feels good in the prop plane so we put the same setting in the sim for our Fighter Jet, but in the fighter jet it feels like it is not reacting (aka climbing) as fast as a fighter jet should? If we simply move the Max Telemetry down from 45 say to 20, now the simulator will tilt full back when the jet in the game is at 25 degree angle or so... the overall seat angle will be the same for both but how quickly the simulator moves the seat there is rapidly increased. I hope that makes sense. Basically the lower the Max Telemetry setting, the quicker the movement to maximum motion will happen.
      Just another example, for Heave I have my max telemetry turned all the way down as low as 6 on some planes so I really feel the runway when I land. Now be careful because turning the setting that low can really jostle you around if there are other times heave comes into play. Again you have to find the balance between what works and what get too bumpy.
      Also try turning the "Enhanced G-Forces" on and off to see if that makes it feel more like you want it to.
      If you are not a member of the facebook group dofrealitybuilders, I highly recommend you join it. Jeff Weaver in that group LOVES helping people with all this stuff and would be a great resource to help you more.
      I hope that all helps and good luck,
      -Mark

    Does anyone know if the H6 or P6 is fast enough to be accurate in serious racing? I know some professional races use very simple (but expensive) 3dof systems for that reason - they prioritize quick and precise movements over large ones.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the question. You can set the rig up to move however you want. You can set it for smaller movements or go for the full range. You can set the software to be aggressive or mild. That is the beauty of the DOF Rig, you can tailor it to your liking. In the H6, you get a great feeling of racing, especially with the sway smacking you sideways when you sideswipe something. The heave is great for the road texture. Just a great device for racing and flying. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the question Brady, Actually there are only 6 arms, the things you are seeing in the center (between the arms) are gas charged struts, similar to what you might see on the back window of an SUV or camper shell that keeps the window up when you open it. If you watch the video closely you will see the cylinder moves up and down on the shaft on those pieces, where the arms are just basically tie rods that don't slide like the struts do. They are there to assist the motors when they are pushing the rig up and also take out the slack in the system to reduce noise. The picture on the website for dof reality is an old version before they added the struts. All the new ones should be like mine.

Cheers mate

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  2 роки тому +1

      Hi neverd1e, good question. It does a good job of emulating being in a car EXCEPT you don't have the G force that is pushing you around like in real life. The motion platform itself reads the telemetry from the game for it's movements so the quality of the movement depends on the quality of the programing in the game. PLUS you will also probably be tuning the software that drives the sim (Sim Racing Studios in this case) to get it to feel like you want it to. If you have a good game and spend the time to tweak it just right, it is a very convincing experience... I'd say it feels more like you are driving a real car than it feels like you are playing a video game. One of my favorite experiences is when you hit cracks in the road and get that little bounce just like in real life. Also, "catching air" is pretty cool too. Of course that is also with VR and a force feedback steering wheel, which are a huge additions to the immersion. Hope that answers your question and thanks for watching.

      Sorry to let you down, but you're so far away from the truth it's not even funny. The 2DOF from NJ is an absolute children's play toy when compared to the 6 DOF. It's not even close. There is more difference between the 6DOF and the 2DOF... than there is from the 2DOF and *Not Having One* aka zero, lol.
      People with 2DOF honestly can't comprehend the amazing realism you can get when the yaw kicks in (traction, if racing) and you're sliding back and forth trying to keep control. It's an absolute dream, and something that 2DOF physically can not achieve. Among about 40 other "feelings" I can make off the top of my head.
      Your unit is fun, but the H6 6DOF is a machine that is unparalleled by anything with less than 6 degrees of freedom.

      @@hrl2k I'm not sure I see the need for 6DOF, myself. Especially the horizontal movement. Now 4DOF with the 4th being heave, hell yeah, that makes a lot of sense to me for both racing and flight. I have no experience, myself, but I feel like I'd prefer to spend the complexity of 6DOF on having 4DOF with heave and much higher angles of pitch, roll, and yaw.
