    Andrew Yang is the most realistic, sensible, out-of-the-box practical,politician for our time. Sadly, he’s ahead of his time as most voters don’t seem to have the mental bandwidth to grasp how brilliant and viable his solutions are!

    Poverty may be solvable, but people are hard nuts to crack. People will say they want to solve social ills, then turn around and behave in ways that doesn't support this. That's why I don't think structural poverty will ever be fixed.

    It's been so hot here in LA for the last couple of days (and most parts of the West/South). I passed by a homeless man off the exit of a freeway in broad daylight over 105F and they remind me every time of how this country (and perhaps capitalism) has failed them. Sure you can argue all the reasons they ended up homeless, but at the end of the day, they were someone's child; they were once a boy with big dreams. At the bare minimum, the most prosperous and advanced nation in the world should satisfy the first two tiers of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. That's basic human right. Poverty can be solved. America just chooses not to. Ever since Andrew ran back in 2020, I've been contemplating on whether capitalism really is the best model for the people, or whether a blend of economic-focused socialism could succeed under the hands of a leader with heart and compassion. Because look at what capitalism did. If you disagree with me, look at the CEOs and top executives of Wall St. Companies. That's the result of capitalism. So you can compare Wall Street with a system where wealth is more equally shared and you don't have a very small group of Elites with their heads sticking out, and decide for yourself which one is ultimately better for all its citizens. I think there's no completely right answers but a blend of both capitalism and economy-centered socialism would prevail.

    HOWTO Fund UBI:
    A Constitutionally FIXED tax of 1% on transactions of: stocks/options, bonds, ForEx, crypto, and futures.
    - In this way, the tax burden is on people who have enough money to spare that they can invest it.
    - The tax has to be fixed to keep it from becoming a political football.
    Funds collected from this tax are Constitutionally EXCLUDED from the federal budget.
    Funds are collected on a quarterly basis.
    Distribute the funds across 60 tranches corresponding to monthly payments across five years.
    - This will help smooth out the payments (less fluctuation with the economy).
    When a tranche comes due, divide it equally among adult US CITIZENS to a debit card account.
    - Funds remaining at the card at the end of the month join the next quarter's take.
    - This system works best if the money is SPENT, not hoarded.
    - - States and localities could get some of this money via taxes.

    • @Here4TheHeckOfIt
      @Here4TheHeckOfIt 4 місяці тому

      Stocks fluctuate, and when there's a recession, people will not be happy about that 1% when they've lost 20% of their stock value. Also, debit accounts are a pain considering they are frequently targeted by scams and cyber attacks. But you have the right idea and spirit. This is going to be a big issue whether we like it or not.

    Can Mr Yang talk about people being ungrateful a little more. When common people get handouts, a portion are ungrateful. How is the lack of gratitude calculated into this. Is there a way to hold people accountable for being ungrateful for being helped out of poverty. Is homelessness a result of lack of gratitude? If so, how can we solve the addiction issue as well.

    • @nunyabidness3075
      @nunyabidness3075 4 місяці тому +1

      Why should people be grateful? The whole system is designed for people to feel entitled. Also, it’s so much hassle to collect the stuff, people don’t think it’s charity. Actual charity is the better answer.
      Maybe we need a system where people first ask for help from a local charity, and can only get government money if the charity refuses them. Then, they’ll have to admit to the government they are messed up and need counseling to re enter society.

  • @KRGruner

    He does not understand. Poverty, at least in the US, is entirely a matter of human attitudes and culture. People who finish high school, get a job (any job), and do not have kids outside of marriage at too young an age are almost NEVER poor. And these are ALL decisions we can make (perhaps with the sole exception of very low IQ individuals). This is NOT an issue of AI or automation, at least not now (it could be in the future). The exact same arguments were being made during industrialization, as farm workers were replaced by machines at a very fast pace. And robots have been replacing humans in factories for decades now. So Yang is not even asking the right questions, much less getting the right answers.

    • @finaldrive6224

      For now, I think UBI should only be given to women under the condition that they must be employed in essential jobs such as agriculture and law enforcement to receive it; this will enable them to be hired for less, making them more appealing to employers and taxpayers alike.

    If, as Elon Musk argues, automation will be capable of taking all or most of our jobs some form of UBI will be inevitable. And where will the funds for UBI come from? Obviously, from taxing robots. The wealth that robots produce is not spent by robots. Robots don't consume food, they don't need money to buy homes, they don't need more medical care as they age, they don't need money to go on vacations, but humans do.

      I could understand if everyone was given let's say a million dollars when they were born and some people be poor due to mismanaged funds. However many people are born without wealth,and it is difficult to ever get to a point of growing wealth when you start with nothing. That is why stories of poor people becoming rich are celebrated and blasted on the news: they are very rare.
      Also 12k for someone with nothing will make a huge impact vs someone with millions, and so while every American benefits, it directly helps the bottom the most

    • @jamesloehr641

      Welfair pays people to be poor. Ubi pays people to work. The difference is you lose your benefits if you get a better job on welfare. On ubi you still get paid the ubi if you get a better job. It actually incentivises work as a means to actually live better. While welfare incentivises being stuck in a low paying job or not working at all.

      We need to actually get rid of credit cards and financing most things. Cheap money lead to over priced goods,housing and cars. If we didn't have this debt based system everything would have to cost far less and economies of scale would be much more incentivised.
