So basically a room rental. I have one of these. Good landlord. But these spaces are always small. And eventually people will need to expand. Prices are too high to afford anything beyond a room rental for working class. I take home 2400 a month after taxes. With rent prices being $1500 and up, I have to diviide $900 between food and other bills for the next 30 days. It's impossible out here. I'm losing my mind. Exhausting! Thankful for my landlord and for the room. But I have no damn life like this.

People dont understand that the prices of things are never going back down. This inflation is deeper than we think. Those buying groceries are well aware that the real inflation is much over 10%. The increments dont match our income, yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish I could accomplish that.

This is treating the symptoms and accommodating the problem. The real cause of rising land prices is the monopolization of land, and the solution is to tax land value instead of taxing productivity. This solution has been advocated by almost all of the classical liberals and libertarians prior to Hayek, Rothbard, Rand and Mises.

I'm a Realtor. Companies like these already exist. The issue isn't acceptability to rent a damn room. The issue is that an average family in America can't afford a home.
I shouldn't have to count on a stranger renting a room from me and being around my little kids in order to afford basic shelter.
What needs to happen is limit the number of investment properties a person can own. Lower downpayment percentages. Significantly tax vacant land.
Provide lower interest rates for first time home buyers or buyers that are moving into a primary residence.

If you want to reduce the cost of housing, remove real estate brokers from the process. The real estate industry has been harboring and enabling real estate investors forever. And, they're an unnecessary expense in this day in age. There's literally no reason or legal requirement for using a real estate agent. So heartened by the recent class actions against NAR and other industry players. Finally someone standing up to a corrupt industry, in the US anyway, that has grown fat fueling the boom bust real estate cycles and contributing to the affordability crisis.

This is a good practical idea, although not the ideal one that people wish for. It is obnoxious to think of all the wasted space, while so many are constantly fighting with homelessness, or paying way too high a percentage of their income for housing. The key to cheaper housing is to get institutional investors out of the market.
The US has turned into a banana republic. You know, where a few rich own everything and the masses live in cardboard boxes.
Restriction: Single family homes. A person/family unit/institution is allowed to own three single family homes max. The problem with the housing market is that institutional buyers/the rich have destroyed the market with their obscene amounts of money that regular folks can't compete with.
Restriction: A person/family unit/institution is allowed to own three rental homes/complexes max.
In a housing crisis. Need to get the monopolistic practices of institutional landlords ended.
Once the housing and rental markets have been placed in the hands of the public, where they belong, you can consider loosening the restrictions a bit. But, first things first, the housing market must serve the public, not the other way around.
