    Always accelerate thru corners in front wheel drive cars. Especially in the wet. If you come off the gas or brake half way thru a corner you lose the weight on the back end and you slide. I learnt this the hard way at cadwell. :-(

  • @LewisMR2
    @LewisMR2 5 років тому +23

    Guy in the red jumper has weight distribution all backwards. When you are on the power the weight goes to the back. He seems to think if you go on the power weight goes to the front? How does that even make sense to him. Going on the power in a corner in a front wheel drive will cause you to lose grip at the front. Not the other way around.

  • @MultiBruce3

    its not the tyre, When I used to race karts you took very different lines in the wet. the reason is due to the fact that the racing line is full of rubber and it gets very slippery when wet. The wet lines tend to brake a full Kart off line into some corners and you tend to run wide and cross the racing line where it is coming to meet the apex. The lack of aggression on turn in is not helping either. you use the lift off over steer and balance it out on the throttle 12:32 in this video displays what should be practiced to get faster in the wet.

    I know this isn’t a recent video but I’ve just been watching through this series and love it! Just a small tip since you mentioned in other comments you’re learning to drive on track. The ‘locking’ you experienced was because of changing down a gear without rev matching. I won’t explain it in a comment but it’s a good technique to learn to stop that happening! Also, as a Peugeot 106 owner, I can say I’ve experienced the life of lift off oversteer many a time, seems like you’re learning to deal with it well though! Good job guys keep up the great work. (Very tempted by one of these, that noise is insane)

    • @GuysThatDrive
      @GuysThatDrive  5 років тому

      Dan H glad you like the vids! More coming this year with the Clio! The locking up was from the tyres under braking as the car has no abs, so locks when the grip is minimal! Rev matching down shifts is next on the list to learn on track, can do it on the road when there is less going on but on track it’s harder to do when thinking about getting everything else!

    I bought a set of OEM wheels on Civic 9th gen, they came with these tires, brand new, 225/45R17. What a POS tire : poor steer-in respons, easily pushed to max of grip and they cup like crazy within 15000km and am left with a noisy ride. Car was 4 wheel aligned after installing the new set of wheels.
    Getting Michelin Pilot Sport next time, twice the money four times the joy, if not eight. PS all season V shaped profile Michelin is also POS.
    I had the Michelin PS4 on my Clio 197 with OEM wheels and they rocked!

    For anyone looking for a budget sport Tyre that grips ok in the wet try the Nankang Ns2.....not even the Ns2r.....just the normal sport road Tyre.
    I run Proxes T1r,s on my mini Cooper s and the forementioned Nankang,s on a Vectra SRi and I can say without doubt that they grip better in the wet and have similar performance in the dry......they sound crap by name, but check out the company.....they are very very experienced in Tyre production and so bloody cheap.....I'd rate them higher than proxes.just my opinion

    I personally found the Toyo TR1's (not T1R, but TR1) rubbish. Grip was good in cornering but the steering was vague and unresponsive. Didn't feel planted. Not for me.

  • @1066wastrel
    @1066wastrel 3 роки тому

    the T1r`s transformed the handling of my last (nissan) but did nothing for my current (Honda) find the right car & these are are terrific tyres, shoulder wear is the only downside I could find, they had terrible shoulder wear, fantastic grip wet & dry, but terrible shoulder wear, the rest of the tyres had loads of life left in `em, I tried over inflating to use more of the centre tyre tread, it didn`t work, I run Michelins, they work fine-so far!

    • @CurboroughSprinter
      @CurboroughSprinter Рік тому

      I don’t know but I suspect from other Toyos I’ve used that the shoulder wear problem will be down to weak sidewalls (esp compared to Pilot Sports). The tyre therefore rolls over more under hard cornering.

  • @moforockband
    @moforockband 4 роки тому

    If you had been on r1r's you would have been flying round. The T1R always was a terrible track tyre. There is no sidewall strength, so the tyre collapses under sideloads.

      We’ve just picked up a set of Yokohama AD08Rs - only tested them on the road briefly, tarmac was wet and greasy as it had just been raining.. the tyres had a lot more grip and were much more confidence inspiring than the T1Rs. Didn’t push it too hard but could tell they had a lot more to give! They are good value and the dry grip will be so much better, looking forward to getting them out on track now! Casual Agent how do you find them? We found a good barely used 2nd hand set so thought would be worth a try. You could go more track focussed with something like the Toyo R888Rs but then you would lose some of the on road ability if the roads are wet/ cold!

    • @casualagent7250
      @casualagent7250 5 років тому

      Guys That Drive
      Had them on the car awhile now, am pleasantly surprised by the wear.
      Bought 225/45/17, on rough British roads the extra width of the tyres scrape the front wheel arches (occasionally)
      On smooth Florida roads wasn’t an issue, will be going back to the regular
      215/45/17 tyre size, which tyre though?
      Not 100% convinced in the wet
      A bit noisy on the road
      Not a supple ride either (AD08)
      May go back to a good street tyre,
      hence I was looking at the Toyo T1-R
      (which led me to your video 👍)
      Maybe UniRoyal rain sport tyres ?

      Yes this track day was a learning curve and yes some of the clips trying to explain/ figure out the issue at the time aren’t correct. By the afternoon we had learnt to keep your foot planted to avoid the backend overtaking the front. Something that at first felt quite unnatural having both daily driven rwd BMW’s for quite a while so doing the opposite. This was a great way of learning the limits of the Clio (and our abilities) are like in relatively safe environment and speeds way below what it would take to make the car react like this in the dry.
