The secret to making history interesting is to bring the people into it; real, breathing, people. Or once breathing anyway. Not just their names, but what made them twitch. Make your students love, or at least like, the people just like the characters of a good book. Give them attitudes and anxieties, lovers and enemies. Long ago there was an English woman sent by the English king to be wife to an Irish king to solidify an alliance. She was unwilling to marry this stranger but what did a woman's wants matter to kings in those days. Just a few years later, hearing that the Irish king was well fond of his English wife, the English king had her abducted and brought back to England, holding her hostage against the Irish good behavior (who, like the Scots, were always itching for rebellion). Boring, right? Well, it turns out that the lady in question TWICE ran away to get back to her Irish king. Once, severely risking her life, crossing the Irish channel alone in a tiny boat. The Irish king was reputed to be somewhat ugly, rough mannered and mean. What would make a lady take so much risk to return to him if he was all the unpleasant things history and rumor has labeled him? Obviously there is a human story here not just dates and names and long gone politics. People made history. If you want someone now to give a damn about them you just have to shine a light on their passions.
Love the Outlander videos. Not many UA-camrs react to it and I’ve always wondered why. It gets a lot better through the later parts. Jaime is my favorite tv show character for a reason.
Your accent told me that you are from Quebec. When you said CGEP I knew for sure. Grew up in Montreal history was actually my favourite subject in school. I have lived in Calgary for 43 years. I am enjoying watching your reactions. The best is yet to come :)
the battle of culloden is very real and really happend, the graveyart claire and randall walked trough is also a real location of the battle and where so many lost their lives, the headstones are also real, very sad :(
Loving watching your Outlander reactions so much. It's visible to see you enjoying the story, and getting excited, super interested. It's been exciting for me to watch someone else fall in love with this amazing and passionate series. Outlander is also history class kk it's like James himself said in the episode Claire was pre-judged and when she stopped focusing on her own mission to return to the future, and paid attention to her return she was able to see everyone with a new lens . All the guys around her in their own way start to care, trust and defend her. As well as herself, which makes it harder to know how to end their struggle and their lives... sad and cruel to say the least. Wow like Claire the first time we see Dougal exposing Jaime's back for money and poor humiliating that hate as Claire outraged. Jaime taking care, protecting and helping Claire sleeping on the floor by her door so no man tries to enter the room. Yes Claire and Jaime's sex are memorable. Looking forward to you watching the next episode. 😉🥰
I've already told you this but I'm so glad your reacting to Outlander! I've also sd, in my opinion, the episodes get so damn good from the next episode on 😉... I can't wait to re-watch them with you. But I do agree with you that as an adult, I've fallen in love with learning/researching history... and this show brings history to life in such an entertaining way.
Hey ! I love watching your reactions to Outlander, wich is my favorite show ever ! I immediately liked Jamie, and was all in from the first episode. This is going to get even better from now on, I can assure that ! Can't wait to see your reaction to the 7th episode of the season (soon !!!). Thanks for giving this show more visibility, as I think it is underestimated. I agree with you on the history side, we really get interested thanks to how it is explained ! :D xxx from France.
I hope you are way ahead in watching the show because you are bound to be spoiled via the comments. I'm really happy that you're reacting to Outlander. :)
Hello! I don't know if it is just me, but in the Patreon link when I type the usual password it says it is incorrect... Tried in the other post and works fine so I do believe I'm typing it right
They always have such great cliffhangers🤣🤣bummer right? Can you maybe post the reactions more often? Since i saw you also upload to patreon, but unfortunatly i can't afford that 😥

What is unrealistic is the notion that ordinary highlanders, particularly the women, would have any English but I suppose the story demands it.
