I just ordered the quick snap sprinklers and I just brought the beehive system with the hub. Next I have to by 3 more timers then I’ll be all set. I can’t wait until next year to get it all set up. Thanks for the video. It helped me to make my decision on this system
Hi, how is it working for you? Looking to buy the same system.
Thanks for the video buddy! Just decided to get one for my garden! What an amazing tool!!
I like them. They are a bit complicated to setup but once you figure out their system you’re golden.
Pretty cool. I like how it works with the local weather and auto adjust.
I agree. Being a tech nerd it’s for me! Even if it’s a little more than the dial style hose end timers.
Thank you, very informative with the need to know information
Thk u for the detailed explanation! I was able to listen while I do my work! Remember there are Sr 's like myself who accepts a Good Reminder ' so I was looking forward to hear, Exactly which one is ❤️
Great vid. I’m going to try this for my front yard herb garden.
Hi good video, just trying to work out if this device interacts with google hub/home devices?
I am new to all this. When I connect this bhyve to my outside faucet do I have to always leave the faucet on? How does the water turn on if I don’t leave the water always running?
Hi there. Just wondering how your device is holding up? still running today? I’m looking to buy one.
Kind regards
Works outside of North America? Can you change the connector bit to fit on different style of taps etc?
I have a b-hyve XD bluetooth that I just bought and I want it to be wifi also. Could that wifi adapter work for this one that you had in your video to make it wifi compatible. I am trying to get water in two different spots with I need different amounts of water. Do I need another one or will this one work for both areas with a different zone setup.
I have been looking for a 2 port outlet b-hyve with wifi and bluetooth but cannot find them.
Thanks for the review. Is there a way activate the sprinklers without going through the app/on the unit? For instance, if my kids want to play in the sprinklers.
Press and hold the button until LED lights green. It will turn on water for as long as your Manual watering time is set.
Do you know if it’s possible to have it activate off a motion sensor? Either Samsung smarthings sensor or ring door bell sensor?
Great Video. How long do the batteries last? Can it be wired in? How does it determine the weather? Is that coming from the phone? What if you are in another state or country where it is raining, does that mean your home watering will be delayed or does it know your home location and the weather there not at the phone location?
Thanks for this awesome video. My question is can you set run times for more then once a day. And can you set different run times for morning and evening
Yes
Great video mate... I have a question: If I buy the B-hyve with wifi/bluetooth but I dont yet have internet / wifi at my home, can I setup and run the device?'... I will eventually be getting internet/wifi, but the house is still in renovation mode, so no need right now. Any advice will be appreciated Reid.
Yes you can
Question... Is the software able to send push notifications to your phone as to when the water is flowing through the device? For example, if i was on vacation, and the device failed for some reason and water was just constantly running, i would want to know. Thanks for your help
In the app it’ll give you a meter of the amount of water flowing through. So yes.
Any idea on how this does with high-ish pressure? I've tried a dual dial timer and it was just spouting water out the top
I saw somewhere that you need a pressure reducer in front of it if the pressure exceeds about 635 units (forgot what it was).
Great video, thanks! How do I add different devices to the same zone
What do you mean.
Going to soak my foundation for 3x a week for ~15 min x 2 during that water day. After 17 years I have brick separation and I think I need to start soaking my foundation area during the Jun-Sep dry months in Texas. I'll put the hose about 12 - 18 inches from the foundation and bury the hose about 8 inches down. Need to find a water filter attachment so sediment doesn't build up in the hose. Should last about 7 years. Your video helped put B-hyve on the top 5 list. It's the WIFI that I liked.
Thanks for the video. Can I ask how the wifi system works? Does it connect to the existing wifi LAN, or it connects to your phone directly while you need to switch on tethering function, or it runs an access point while you need to connect to it and give up your existing LAN and internet? Many thanks.
It connects to an outlet device via Bluetooth and the that device connects to your wireless network.
Question about timers. Any concern of the thing leaking or breaking and water coming out non stop?
I’ve never had that happen.
Thanks! Just built an elevated plant garden and looking for a smart controller. About how long would you say the batteries last?
Not sure. Many months for me.
@@DIYReid oh ok, thanks!
I have one of these and I want to use it as a on off for my camper so when I'm not going to be in it for a while I could shut it off. But if I want it on for a week it will stay on. Flooding and pipe bursting prevention type of deal. Will it stay on for long periods of time?
Pretty sure it needs an end time
I do have a fully automated sprinkler system that is expensive and costs maintenance for blowing out the hoses two times a year. So this is just what I need for the rest of the property not covered. Wonder if it would work with Alexa? I'm going to have hoses running everywhere so will try to bury some so I can cut the grass and mulch over paths to avoid tripping. Fed up with having to haul them all over the locations I need. This is a water saving device in a way as it's smarter use. Have lots of rain barrels and water catching gadgets so not a water hog by any means. My hostas just don't weather the heat during dry summer months.
Nice description. It was what I was looking for. Thanks
You’re welcome.
Can you use a gravity fed rain barrel or do you need a certain psi for the valve to open ?
I'm not sure. you'd probably need pressure to make your sprinklers run though.
Just purchased my quick snap 5 piece set and would love to be able to add the Bhyve system. How many water hoses can I run off one faucet timer? If I have a 4 way splitter and 1 hose connected to each opening, can 1 faucet timer run everything or would I need to purchase 4 faucet timers (one for each hose)?
Two per quick snaps per one timer.
DIY Reid Thank you!
informative for sure, but two questions. How long do the batteries last? And more importantly, maybe a test on how far away and what kind of obstacles affect it's range.
Not sure on batteries as I’ve only had them for about 4 months. Shows 80% battery left. I’d say they last at least a year.
Question for you can you just turn your faucet on and off manually from your phone too? And if yes how long does it take from the time you click your phone to turn it on for it to actually start spaying water?
Yes. It’s within a second.
After you set it up to Smart Watering, it has no scheduling date for watering listed? When does it decide to start working?
I hope you reply to this one. I set mine up, I did soil type and all the advanced details per zone. According to the calendar it wants to water 4 times this month and 3 times next month for 5-10 minutes. That would certainly result in burned dead grass in the summer. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance!!
You can adjust things as you wish.
Do you still recommend this? I currently have the Orbit 4 zone hose timer and love it. But this would be super convenient. Does it run on batteries? How long do they last typically?
Yes. They are kind of confusing to use the app but once you figure it out it’s fine. The batteries last at least a summer.
DIY Reid great!!! Thank you for the quick response.
I'll try it. My big bhyve time has a built in hub
Thanks knowing the previous price was helpful.
Hopefully this one connects to my phone cause the last brand innokey would not. Bought it 3 times and returned it 3 times. Bluetooth version and wifi version.
Does it work from where you are at anytime? Let's say can you control it from out of the city? Thanks for your help my friend
Yes.
Hello Reid , was wondering about wifi does all the B-hyve wifi work when your away from home cause the package reads workable upto 150’ within the property ?
They are talking about the distance between the device and the wifi module you plug in to an outlet inside your house. The plug sends the signal via wifi to your network.
@@DIYReid thanks 👍
No problem
I am sure that the Bluetooth receiver won't reach from one side of the house to another. Can I use two wifi receivers and still see all of them in the app?
So, this means your hose is always on right?have you seen a rise in your water bill because of this?
I have 4 timers and one hub. Is it possible to add each timer to one Zone i.e creating multiple Zones? i tried but unable to so that. If you have any video please share or share steps.
Yes, they all default to say Zone 1 but if you rename each of them you'll see that they all have their own zone.
Not sure why this has only 3.5/5 on Amazon, but considering most Amazon reviews are either fake or people complaining about shipping and lemon products... ill give it a try.
I think they get a bad rap for their confusing menus.
Only works sometimes thats why
Can I hook this up to my rainbird sprinkler system
Yes. This can be hooked up to anything really.
Is there a solar panel version that chargers itself?
No. The AA Batteries last a good year.
Hi can it be voice activated by Google Assistant?
Does your timer still work? I'm looking to get one, but the reviews on all these wifi timers say they malfunction after a month.
Yes.
@@DIYReid thank you for the quick response! I’m going to try it out.
Since my wife has decided she will not authorize a sprinkler system at this time it appears this device is a good alternative.
Absolutely
Anyone know the the range of the Bluetooth?
Does the app let you see how many gallons of water you have used
Yup
My water hose is always on even if I don't always use the hose during the day. Can this set it where the water is on in the morning but shut off at night? Somehow water timer has start time but no end time.
You can have it start and stop at anytime you want. You can have it start and stop multiple times a day.
@@DIYReid So I can have water for 3 mins every hour but only between like 10am to 6pm? I don't know why the cheaper Orbitz timer does not have an end time or water restriction time.
You can setup that in custom. Not sure if it has that function but you can say at 10am-10:03am water. 11am-11:03am water and so on.
So this may be a stupid question but how well does this manage with the quick-snap sprinklers you installed? Do you leave your hoses out the night before watering or if your not home to have your hoses hooked up for whatever reason... ?
So with my quick snap sprinklers I leave the hose connected. They are in a place that allows me to do so.
@@DIYReid Ok that's what I figured but I didn't know if you just had hose running all threw your yard or what.. Love the info! you got yourself a new SUB for sure! awesome content
@@blakescorsone4958 I forgot. I do have one in the back middle of my back yard to catch areas that won't be able to be hit by the outside sprinklers. I manually run that one in a program so I can just say at 7am tomorrow run for 45 minutes and make sure I hook it up.
I haven't gotten it working yet. I could care less (for now) about schedules), I just need to be able to quickly and automatically turn on the sprinkler using an Alexa routine. I can turn it on and off using the B-Hyve phone app but so far haven't had any luck with Alexa. The best I've done with Alexa is to get her to tell me B-Hyve is now watering but it is not. I can get Alexa to tell me the watering has stopped, but it had never started. Maybe I can't do it anyway. My garden Ring camera is fantastic at detecting squirrels under my mango tree. And I can get an Alexa routine to activate a smart plug, wait 5 seconds, then turn it off. Which is of course what I want to do with the sprinkler, spritz the squirrels so hopefully this year I get more mangoes than the squirrels. I have a defender motion activated sprinkler but it doesn't do as good detecting motion as the camera and besides, I want to see the squirrels run away. :-) Since I can get the plug to turn on and off like I want, I suppose I'll spend more money on a 110V water valve. It'll look cobbled up but at least it should work.
Can i start a zone with an indefinite time? I mean unlimited, just trigger a hose on and off when I want
Yup. You can also say turn it on now for a certain amount of time.
@@DIYReid I know how to turn the zone on but I always need to put a time. How I just turn it on without time???
I don’t think you can turn it on indefinitely.
@@DIYReid that's what I thought
But it really doesn’t matter as you’d just put in a random time and can turn it off when you’re done.
If it runs out of battery does the water run out of the faucet or does it stop water from running? Im going vacation and trying to figure out a good timer to buy
To be honest I'm not sure, I'd just put fresh battery in there before you leave and you'll be good to go. UNLESS you're gone for a year :)
@@DIYReid do you think it can last for 3 weeks?
Oh yeah. They last a year or more.
Can you run 2 sprinklers off of 1 b hyve by using a y
Yup
How would that work ? Could you use the quad instead of the Y ?
Just use a Y adaptor after the timer. Like this one - amzn.to/3NNxnSX
Can you remotely turn the water on?
Yes.
any idea how long the batteries last? I need something that will run intermittantly for 6 months while i'm away
Not 100% sure but I can tell you mine have been going for 2 years
There's a gen 2 available now. Hopefully you can review it too. Thank you@@DIYReid
@timothyadams3431 didn’t know they had a new version. I’ll be sure to check it out.
How do you put the batteries in?
There is a tray that pulls out.
So you have to buy both devices? Why didn’t it just come with wifi built into one unit?
Technically you can buy the unit with the WiFi adapter.
DIY Reid oh okay! Sounds good! Just wondering why they didn’t build it all into one unit.
can u controll the hose remotely ?
Yes.
Rain delay is a great feature
For sure.
This doesn’t use batteries like AA please can explain me
Yes it does
The faucet timer has a rain delay feature. This feature does not work and Orbit won’t even respond to requests for help on making the feature function as advertised. Don’t waste your money on this timer.
Set a sprinkler near your neighbor’s driveway, and set your sprinkler to go off and water them when they go to work in the morning.
I’m not mean.
Is it live data or is there a delay on the gallons
There is one that shows current GPM and one that shows total. You can water per total GPM if you want.
@@DIYReid thanks
No problem.
@@DIYReid can you adjust how high the water turns on or is it just full?
Just full or based on how open the Spicket is
Can i set up a timer that only kicks on when its above 90 degrees? and kicks off under 90?
Not that I remember. Not sure you’d want to do that.
@@DIYReid Thanks for the quick reply. Its for a mister sytem to keep livestock cool very minimal water usage like 10 gallons a hour. I still think ill get it so i can turn it on and off from my phone!
Ahhhh ok. Makes a lot more sense now. Lol. I was like WTF watering that long? That can be achieved another way but it’d take a little of tech and geeking out a bit.
can you turn on the device at will?
Manually? Yes. You mean like to water something?
@@DIYReid lol yea. like if my neighbors dog is on my lawn and is about to poop, can I turn it on with the push of a button on my phone?
Yup. You can.
I read that each hub can handle 64 bhyve hose timers.
It’s something like that.
Fun
Water continued to flow even after the Manual Watering ran out of the time selected. I had to turn off the tap.
I just got mine did you know it was made by orbit
Yup
How can you create multiple zones with this?
You would have to buy one of these per zone.
That seems more complicated than it should be. Hopefully they’ll come out with a multiple zone one soon. I’ll have to stick with my sometimey Melnor.
Melnor is fine too I just found these to be a bit smarter and a bit better UI too.
How do you resolve leaking water from the timer?
Make sure you have the o ring seal in there.
Thanks so much.
You’re welcome.
Can you set it to water in increments of one minute?
Yes
Anyone have any issues with water pressure? I installed this and the water pressure decreased significantly.
It does cut down on the water pressure a little. Do you have a gauge to see how much?
@@DIYReid No I don't. is that something I should check out?
Do how do you know you have less water pressure?
@@DIYReid Visually. Having the timer one restricts the water in the sprinkler to about a 2 ft range.
How far did it work without it?
You mentioned the wall plug is Bluetooth and the usb dongle is WiFi. Are you sure the plug is Bluetooth? I just thought the plug powered the usb WiFi dongle
The wall plug picks up the Bluetooth signal from the unit and converts it to WiFi in a sense.
Yeah that's not true, the usb dongle dose yes. But the plug is just a usb wall plug.... similar to a mobile phone charger
Sorry. I reread your question. The USB plug is the dongle. I mentioned them as a whole since they come as a whole.
So I could turn on the sprinkles while I’m working night shift and the neighbor let’s his dog poop on my yard??? Sounds worth it right there just to watch them run from the sprinklers on my security cameras
Yup.
Confused beyond! Timer has only one outlet yet you're setting multiple zones.
I have multiples of these.
@@DIYReid Thanks. I just started using an Inkbird WIFI Thermostat and what a game changer for me. This Orbit unit would be such a stress reducer as well. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching!
Looks like the Byve is an Orbit product. The address on the bottom of the box is Orbits address. Hmmmmm!!!
Universal
I'm guessing this is for people that don't have a sprinkler system? 🤔
For sure.
wifi connection keeps dropping, may return item for refund
You have a good signal to it?
Yea depending on your router you may be out of zone
You're twenty-five bucks turned into 55.38 for each additional timer
Check in store at walmart. My local one has em for 25.
Well crap. It’ll go back down.
Flashing white light of death right out of the box. It's going back.
Damn. That sucks.
@@DIYReid yeah. I'm investigating other products. Thanks for the review tho!
I had mine for 2 + years. It still works, but the app is a POS, big time. So un intuitive. And sometimes it just decides to not water, for whatever reason. I disabled smart watering, but still it sometimes decides to not water. Manual watering works great, every time
Ive never had mine not run unless there was a rain delay. I agree the app is a bit cumbersome.
The device is $69 now
They go up and down. I made this video last year.
Starting to think this thing is a waste of money. Was working fine for a month then randomly now disconnected and won’t reconnect. App is amateurish
He decides to make a video and the dog is a problem... omg. Grow a pair bro.
So many things "you don't know". Why not do a little research before taping?
It’s 2023. We haven’t used tapes to film on for decades. 😁
@@DIYReid Not the point. Try staying on-topic. Is that relevant enough for you??? So Gen-X.
What a beautiful Sunday we are having here.
