What was he even trying to debate about? His argument basically boiled down to "belief in anything can be considered a religion". If he had just looked up the definition of religion in any sociology/anthropology book, it would have answered his question. But then again, he would have said un books ke authors ka bias hai 😒
WHat definiton? Experts in sociology and anthropology themselves disagree on a definition of religion because many of the things found in religion like cultism,censhorship of others,social control,traditions ; can also be found in other ideologies and beleifs.

And yes an ideology might not neccesarily need god or supernatural to incorporate many of the qualities of religion like cultism,traditions,censhorship,social control etc.

I do think that's what he believes but that claim that atheists are being religious about Nehru is so wrong. Most of the time they are simply countering the misinformation of hindutva people who just hate nehru for no reason. I think there was a simple answer to the caller, which is--If you were to redefine words like religion to mean worship of anyone or anything that exists or doesn't exist, then yes, by that definition of the word religion, it would seem that atheists are being selective in their criticism of religion. However, since most people, theists and atheists, don't define religion to mean worship of anyone or anything, the caller's criticism of atheists is non-sensical, and might I even say---irrational.

Many people don't understand what "definition" is. If you ask someone what a parallelogram is, they will start telling all the properties of it. But definition is something that you cannot prove. Whereas using the definition you can prove the properties. This is basic for mathematics as well as logic. Definition has no connection with bias.
I understand perfectly what a definition is. Just because mathematics has definitions does not mean sociologists can get away with abusing the term. Definitions in sociology are not objective.

To put Richard Dawkins's definition of faith, and he says '' faith/religion is a belief without evidence''. So every belief systems can't be taken as a religion ( doesn't matter organized or unorganized). So if I say the ancestors of Nehru had in their genes the ability of good governance, and therefore he should rule, can be taken as a belief if I don't have any evidence. But if I have evidence then that will be truth. And in case of God, the believers have failed to present any such evidence that substantiate the fact that there is God. For that matter the organized religion with the concept of a God will be taken as blind believe. Clear.

Nehru popularized scientific temper in India. I think the contributions to science and infrastructure for scientific research in India during the nehruvian era is known to everybody. So naming the landing point as Jawahar point doesn't sound to me as hero worship, but more like commemorating Nehru's vision. I doubt Shiv and Shakti have these accomplishments to be named Shiv Shakti Point. Probably the Government ran out of unsung heroes of science?

Any system based on "belief", and not evidence, is a belief system. Religion is only 1 type of belief system involving the supernatural, deities, worship. The religious and the conservatives often label secularism as belief system just to feel good. But Secularism cannot be classified as either a belief system or not a belief system.
Secularism is a *principle* that omits religion as a factor in human to human or Government to human relationship. Wikipedia defines it as conducting human affairs based on naturalistic considerations, uninvolved with religion. Its foundation is not belief, nor evidence, but a desire and effort to espouse equality irrespective of religion.
Secular principle dictate to me that as a person I can either encourage, discourage or be ambivalent to religion, but my thought as such should either be private or, if not private, be equally projected on people I interact with irrespective of their religion, but never ever my other affair with the person I interact with should be affected by their religion.
When it comes to State and citizen relationship, there exists variations:
> Neutral Secular State: The state is expressly non-religious and must not support religion in any way. Most Western countries are this, even though their 100, 200, 300 year old Constitution may be different.
> Positive Secular State: Embrace and encourage religiosity (of all religion) in an equal manner.
> Negative Secular State: Discourage Religiosity and religions. Example - China. France is also something in between Neutral and Negative Secular State.
> Inclusive Secular State: (Nehruvian Secularism) Embrace and/or encourage religiosity (of all religion) or irreligiosity in an equal manner.
