Kazumi Totaka! He's been a composer and sound director with Nintendo for over 30 years now. He also did a lot of the music for the Animal Crossing series, and K. K. Slider ("Totakeke" in Japanese) is named and designed after him.

It is the original, it just sounds different depending on which device you play it back with / if you alter any settings/instruments. MIDI files are basically a set of instructions to play certain types of sounds in a certain way, rather than a normal audio file.

Microsoft GS WaveTable Synth or GTFO

Microsoft GS is a pale imitation of the Roland Sound Canvas series of synthesizers which were simply the greatest synths ever made... that could plug into a computer in the early 90s.
Most MIDI music was composed in multiple flavours targeting various devices, with a generic version for "General MIDI". Almost invariably, the GM device used during the development of the generic track was a Roland SC-55 or SC-88. Also, more rarely, some games had special soundtracks using Roland's GS midi extensions for extra features, so it's no wonder Microsoft use Roland's SC emulation for their included soft synth.
The original 90's hardware still sounds better. 🙂
