What I always loved about this track, as a kid, was that it kinda sounded like an early 90s sitcom ending theme. I could picture like "freeze frames" of the episode as the credits rolled. There was a weird, humble warmth to 90s computer stuff. My family got our first PC in 1997 and I thought it was the weirdest and coolest thing just to poke around curiously on it listening to MIDIs. Damn, memories...
@0x0fffff It’s so funny they just straight up used the Trip Through The Grand Canyon (CANYON.MID) song as the intro. All jokes aside I could this being used as an alternate Seinfeld theme, especially with that slap bass straight outta ‘91!
Disappointed that it's not 10 devices all at once. These old midi tracks really come to life when you play them from multiple sources at once; sounds like a live band. Unfortunately I've only seen LGR do this, and it was only a one-off thing.
My Galaxy Note 9 sounds like the last one, and I love it. I've been using passport as an alarm ringtone for roughly 10 years now, ever since I was able to sideload passport.Midi into a cell phone. Every single one of them have sounded different.
I was expecting the Yamaha OPL-3 Wavetable or DS-XG to be the most pleasing of the selection, but the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz really is the best sounding to my ears, even if it's not entirely accurate to the intended sound since back then.
The last one is actually MSGS Wavetable synth, something that's part of Windows itself. it's my favorite out of all these, despite low quality sample, but damn that turtle beach has really good wavetable
Even 20 years later, my gaming laptop still has the card that sounds just like the Yamaha OPL3-SA3 Wavetable Synth. I'm actually quite convinced that the card might be the Yamaha itself.
I used to play shareware from AOL back in the day, and like half of the games used this midi...including a game called "OJ Simpson Escape", which plays this song while you're driving away from the cops.
They really should've kept these classic MIDIs around. Sure, there's things like onestop.mid but those...just aren't the same as this! If Microsoft includes MIDIs Windows never plays in Windows 10, they should've put this and canyon.mid in with them.
The sound bank in the VX11000 (runs Brew 3.1.5) has an identical one in the Samsung Intensity II SCH-U460, 501c and more others that run on Brew 3.1.5. The upgraded version of that synthesizer (Brew MP) is on other most newer phones like the 840G or 306G, etc.
why does the default android soundfont suck this bad 8:20 the instruments are loud as hel (well at least on my phone i dunno if its a phone issue) and even tho i love reverb this is quite way too much...
It sounds like a super early genesis game, yeah. Back when most games used FM drums instead of PCM and the 4 operators weren't being used to their fullest extent
Well this actually from Windows 3.0 MME which appeared later in Windows 3.1. In Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 98 had Passport.mid in the Media folder if you had the Sample Sounds component installed under the Windows Setup in Add/Remove Programs under the Multimedia category along with Multimedia Sound Schmes, even though in Windows 2000 had it installed by default.
Yamaha DS-XG is the best soundfont and sounds much more realistic than the others. The electric guitar sounds like the "Hollowed harp" from the Roland D50.
These aren't soundfonts, they are the wavetables stored on the cards. The aureal, gravis, and turtle beach cards use software wavetables, so you might be able to extract stuff from the drivers if you were so inclined.
OPL3-SA3 (not the same as the original OPL3) does have a wavetable mode in addition to traditional FM synthesis. These chips were commonly used in laptops and integrated into some onboard motherboard audio solutions.
#2 instruments sounds like something out of SNES genesis game, maybe close to the ones in sonic #3 Sounds.. familiar to the one that baldi basics uses. But it's less modified unlike the other one #8 (Philips) Sounds more laid back unlike the other ones. That's all I had to comment on lol

better than the Beverly Hills Cop theme, still the most sold track ever anyway

Same
you're lucky, I've got a Xiaomi and unfortunately it uses the default Android soundfont.
@@venichen1 damn, my Galaxy A10 uses the default soundfont. Apparently not

This is the most underrated video of all time IMO. Shows so much about MIDI capabilities and showcases a classic jam at the same time
Every single video on UA-cam has someone underneath saying it's "underrated"
The HTC version kinda sounds like a SNES game with all that reverb
lol yeah the drums sound out of Super Mario World, nice catch!
@@EmanueleVaccari The bass too
I always think it's a track from the SNES game Brain Lord
unfortunately it doesn’t have that EPIC arpeggio ish synth
And of course the Yamaha synth one like a megadrive game
*Determined Retro PC Gamer Soul Healing!!*
Notes:
-2:05 and 20:50 are nearly identical.
-4:10 and 22:55 have most synths in common with each other.
well they would be identical, they use the same synth chip
Loving that synth bass at 13:26.

The Turtle Beach is so damn good
Nothing like the OPL3 FM synth version/sound!! Pure retro sound as if I still have my 486 DX4 PC with OPL3 FM synth MIDI playback.
The last one is actually MSGS Wavetable synth, something that's part of Windows itself. it's my favorite out of all these, despite low quality sample, but damn that turtle beach has really good wavetable

Is it weird that I like #2 the most?
Not at all! It has this good early 90s Sega Genesis quality to it.
yes
I like #2 the most too. Mostly because it reminds me of early Sega Genesis games
No, the AWE32 family sounded really good.
#3 is nice but #2... bleh :/
my favorite has gotta be the turtle beach Santa Cruz
Can’t decide, I like em all, Aureal, Yamaha, turtle beach, ultrasound...

I always thought passport.midi was an Easter egg in the OS, kids at school was always amazed when I found it growing up lol
cause most soundcards on modern motherboards dont have any synth capabilities its all emulate through gs wave table and sounds like trash
