I've noticed that after having had a total hysterectomy last year, I've been stress and depression eating 😢 and that has affected my blood pressure which I was able to keep under control for a long time and now it's off the charts and I just feel horrible 😔 I'm going to make an honest effort to put this information into practice. I wish more doctors would educate their patients about health and nutrition as to how what you eat can cause disease and bad health then leads to medication and surgeries and eventually death. Thank you for these educational videos, there is hope 😊

If you are struggling with weightloss bookmark this video. I have incorporated all of the techniques the doctor described into my lifestyle over the past couple of years. I have found them to be crucial to my transition from a clinically obese person to normal weight and maintaining that weightloss. I just discovered this channel a week ago. I love Dr. Liu's style of videos. Keep them coming!

Excellent! Eat before going food shopping...that way it is easier to not purchase ice cream, potato chips, pizza, etc. that you might purchase if shopping while hungry. Also eat an apple or big salad before each evening meal. Never eat from a package, always portion to a smaller plate.

You should eat the carbs last… 15 minutes after protein and fats. The carbs will digest slower and not spike the insulin so drastically. B

We have progressively changed not just what we eat (almost entirely plant-based now) but when we eat. As retirees we now have our main meal at lunchtime, thus giving our bodies more time for digesting it. We typically have a mixed salad for dinner, and we try to eat within a ten hour window. When I say salad, I don't mean just a load of leaves though, I mean a rainbow of chopped/sliced veggies (beetroot, carrots, red cabbage, sweet peppers, celery, radishes) with added nuts, seeds, olives, capers, avocados, and sometimes another protein source like chickpeas or a can of fish... it's delicious, crunchy, and nutritious. It's taken my husband a few years to learn to enjoy it, but we've got there, and he's lost a lot of belly fat as a result. As you say, it's largely a matter of habit. It helps not to buy the rubbish in the first place. We rarely buy bread and never buy sweet biscuits (cookies) or cakes. When there's so much beautiful fruit on this earth, I don't see the appeal of beige ultra processed biscuits or artificially coloured cakes. We are not saints by any means, and it's not always easy, but we do genuinely enjoy healthy eating, and I enjoy the challenge of discovering how to make whole foods really appetising. 😊

I have an addiction to green food.
Even in my breakfast oats, I mix at least a tablespoon of a herbal greens blend (only herbs-no fruit or sugar added, and yes, it tastes bitter) or barley grass powder. My oats also have 2 tablespoons of flaxseed, 2-3 tablespoons of nuts and seeds (whatever I fancy), 2 medium carrots, 1 Apple, 1/2 cup of berries, and about 1 cup of whatever fruit else is available.
Half of my plate needs to be filled with leafy greens-I love arugula, spinach, and lettuce-and the other half I divide into thirds for colourful vegetables, protein, and carbs. Otherwise, I will have cravings all day long. (Usually 1-2 Tablespoons of olive oil or an avocado - I love my healthy fats).
What I call a happy meal (or dessert) consists of 1 Apple, 1 Tangerine or Orange, 1/2 Cup of Blueberries, 3 Dates and 5 Almonds. That's my usual dessert.
That's the food I crave regularly. I don't relate to all the processed stuff as edible anymore.
How did I get there? I started paying attention to how my body felt after a meal, the hours after, and how long I was not hungry afterwards. If something made me feel bad, it stopped landing in my grocery bag. Also, I would add and experiment with fruits and vegetables and very soon had an ever-expanding list of new favourites.

I don't do buffets often, either. When I do, I start with a large plate of salad (probably 3 cups worth of veggies). And, even then, if I get a steak or whatever, I still get a hot veggie on the side. I have a tiny bowl that I use for chips. Once it's done, that's it. I like my coffee/tea plain, prefer dark chocolate to milk.

Hi. She mentioned 3 food she would watch for oxalate in several videos ago. Swiss chard, beet green and one more which I can not remember. She said you would have to consume a whole bunch of spinach like making smoothies every day to worry about oxalate. I wish I could remember which video that was.

My parents made me eat liver and kidney and lamb. All that did is teach me that I REALLY HATE THEM. I love veggies. I don't like carrots. We had 4 to 5 veggies at every meal. No really. We HAD to eat all of them. Can't I skip the car-rots and have a second helping of peas? NO! Add to that my mom was a VERY bad cook. Don't make your kids eat what they really don't like. Still can't stand organ meat or car-rots.

What do you think about calorie density eating? That's a good way to lose weight. Without counting calories by eating vegetables, salads until you are full, then carbohydrates from whole grains such as barley, rye, oats cookies vegetable broth and proteins such as pulses. It's a quick and easy way to cook delicious recipes from around the world.
