Two games, two blowouts. After a 30-point loss in Game 1, La Salle demolishes UP, 82-60, to force a Game 3 on Wednesday (what the hell, UAAP?!). As usual, the Boleros are here to talk all about it. Let's get to it! - Спорт
IMO, 2 things Animo Squad did well:
1. outdid UP Fight in defense, in ON YOUR FACE DEFENSE and
2. successfully played KQ and Nelle as decoys primarily.
Who do I think will win in Game 3?

Why?
They are hungrier! They have more heart ❤❤❤, while UP has only 'experience'.
I am an Atenean and not a fan of either team! I am a UAAP Fan!
I expected a DLSU comeback but defenitely not a 22-point win over UP! Props to coach Topex for the adjustments he made in G2👍🏼
For game 3, I'll be rooting for La Salle because i want 3 different teams winning in the last 3 seasons. Wouldnt that be fun?😅

watched the game live, very intense as both school crowds were very passionate for their schools. props to DLSU's adjustments as certain players stepped up and they limit UP's offense. thank you for the video analysis, mr boleros! hoping for a close game 3!

100% basketball by La Salle !
4:56 to be fair, this is still the lasalle team that manong derek built, frontloading on the frontcourt (KQ, phillips bros etc). Reminscent of his previous champion teams that had limpot, locsin, bachman, lago, dinglasan, del.rosario etc
Great adjustments by DLSU. Blitzing the ball handler, letting KQ play the 4 instead of being the ball handler at the perimiter, and attacking Malick Diouf in the paint tore up UP's playbook. As a UP fan, I'm not too mad at the loss because the Maroons were well scouted and outplayed. No excuses.
Game 3 will be one for the history books. After 2 convincing statement wins, both teams have no more cushion for adjustments. The players and their respective coaches and staff have to lay it all out there for 40 minutes.
Cheers guys! Won't be able to go out on Wednesday, but will definitely tune in to the post-game podcast 👍
P.S. If Francis really was sick with the flu, I hope he takes a double dose of Bioflu and gets well. Both teams need to be at 100% on Wednesday to dispel any doubt, so hopefully no injuries or sicknesses plague either team.

DLSU's defense started their run. they got 28 rebs from Nelle/KQ/Phillips. KQ and Nelle both struggled offensively but they're defense was huge tonight. that Nelle's block on Cansino to end the 3rd was big!!
i'm sorry but i need to give a bolero to Joaqui Manuel. nyeta nakaupo na nga lang, nabigyan pa ng technical. kung bumunggo pa, parang sya pa naagrabyado HAHAHAHA

It’s crazy that both teams won and lost the same way. Our shooters were on it today, even CJ Austria (who has literally 1 move all season which is pump fake and drive baseline 😂) made 2 threes and almost hit a logo three. Come game three though, everything is off the table again. Sucks that its wednesday

Rebounds, 3s and Assists for DLSU were key… UP tried to go to the paint, but LaSalle knew and had 7 blocks…kudos to LaSalle…see you game 3!!!
Actually, i think La Salle forced UP to go inside the paint, where they had the advantage. Excellent defensive gameplan by Coach Topex and his staff - Gab
Great coverage guys! Impressed at how you analyzed every aspecf of this game and the series masterfully. Just want to add a side note: UP's depth I feel was a tad overrated. Unquestionably, they have depth as a team. But if you have no capable backup for Diouf, then you're weak at the 5. La Salle arguably have no such weaknesses as they have players that are interchangeable position-wise giving them depth everywhere. They have depth at the guards and 3-4-5 can be played by MPhillips, KQ, and Poli. Cortez and Kuya Ben can also play a couple of those positions. Just an honest observation. Other than that, keep it up and more power to you guys! Love listening to every coverage and thanks for addressing my previous comment. It's all good and eagerly look forward to your next episode.
Yes! That's why we were saying UPs underdog with 6 rookies and 2 transferries. Pablo and Alter are rookies in 5. Not only in 5, but in positions 3 and 4 too. Francis is a rookie. Aldous have just gotten this job this season and from UPIS program. Belmonte the supplementary back up is also new. Chicos play was guard back in the States and was converted to 3. Tapos height ni Chico 6'2 if I'm not mistaken. Kaya ipaglalaban ko talaga, underdog ang UP.😂😂😂 Nope, Maui, We're underdog here😂😂😂
I don't think it's overrated. They've shown all season that whoever they get off the bench, especially the guards, can produce and make an impact. But teams like Ateneo and La Salle have exposed the thin frontline.

You think that UP inspite of their deep lineup was still an underdog, that's a big joke, they'd been dominating opponents from the very start,, and we just have to see both teams adjustment come game three because in a finals decider it's not the gameplan and strategies that matters it's on the midset pf the players on who's side wants it more, UP i think is feeling the pressure that they're again on the same situation just like on season 85,, their coach of they want to win must play more minutes for Cagulangan or Cansino instead of playing Felicilda, jts im looking forward for a close game naman in game three whoever wins para exciting no for lopsided game for the fans,

Great character win by DLSU. Hard to beat them when they find their rhythm and confidence.
Excellent analysis once again! UP’s offense was clicking until Felicilda was brought in. He is too short to read the floor when bigs are on him; cant lob or pass cross court. They should just make him score when he is on the floor - jettison the screen game, just go for floaters and let Malick and Aldous take care of the missed shots. Having said that, JD is the ride or die point guard and needs to play alongside CJ, Terrence, or Chico to be effective. Lastly, stop playing Belmonte; he kills the offensive flow and ruins spacing for everyone. Even bumps into teammates.
Yep, I've said this repeatedly since S85, JD is the best pure PG in the UAAP and he should be given more run especially that they're in the Finals. Felicilda is great and all, but he's not on the same level as JD
And Belmonte was only given garbage minutes haha. Cut him some slack. He's not in the regular rotation naman hehe - Gab
Well, UP clearly felt the pressure of closing it out in Game2. Their moves were tentative and their decision making were full of hesitation esp on making threes. They were clearly affected by it that they can't execute well. Frozen yung gameplay puro isolation plays lang ginagawa. Nagkanya kanya sila tbh. Proof. Reyland Torres transition shot, yung umiling na lang si Coach Gold kasi hindi pa nakaset up kakampi niya for rebound, tumira na siya, air ball pa. Also the flop nong tinamaan siya konte ni Austria, delayed reaction niya. Yung stay present mindset nila nawala.Kung ang La Salle, na windang nung game 1 kasi first appearance nila in finals. Ang UP naman in Game2, na pressure na tapusin in two games lang.
I understand Coach Gold and coaching staff decision to minimize JD and CJ playing time. It was effective in Game 1. So why not ulitin ulit. It was due to anticipation that JD and CJ would be heavily scouted. Also they needed offense to get going therefore there was a need for Janjan. Everything's good for UP until that rotation when Janjan was taken out because of head clash. What I don't understand is in game 1, part of the game plan was to protect Malick using Francis, they scratch it out in Game 2. I was disappointed of that. They knew Malick will be attacked and La Salle will try to fetch foul from Malick, that game plan won't change from La Salle. La Salle knew that's UPs achilles heel. So they must have done some adjustments on that. They shouldn't put the role on to Pablo that much. He's a rookie after all.
Abangan natin adjustment ni Coach Gold and Coach Topex. Game 3 will be the most interesting as which team will crack on pressure. Both teams have proven to be one thus lopsided ang game scores. It's also proven that both teams, when they clicked, they click together. Thus, hoping for good game on Wednesday.

Putting KQuiambs at stretch-4 works for DLSU, di umubra ang small guard defender since nagscreengame si KQ at Mike P. creating mismatch sa crossmatch. Pero UP rlly needs to figure out managing Diouf's foul tho.

True naman. Although i think that's more of the nature of UP's in-your-face defense. You stick too hard, and you will get beat. Happened to other guys as well and became glaring when Malick was not in the game

In my observation, the reason why they played Felicilda is because JD Cagulangan is being doubled everytime he had the ball and he cannot operate. JD cannot operate proprerly. When Felicilda has the ball, he is not being doubled. Maybe DLSU believe that they can leave Felicilda unlike JD?
They were doubling/blitzing every pick and roll or dribble hand off, even when it was Felicilda handling the ball. You can watch it in the 2nd half
I think it's just Coach Gold trying to get playing time for his multitude of guards, which he has done all season. In Game 3 though, kailangan ilaro na niya yung big guns

Demolition jobs from both schools indeed. But in game 2, it was also DLSU's (offensive) rebounds and impressive defense that killed UP. Game 3 will be for the team who learns/adjusts from their game 1 and 2 mistakes. Despite the result, I'm still rooting for UP!

Honestly, ang boring nitong finals so far because of the lopsided results. For both games, no more excitement after the 1st quarter. :( Nakaka-miss tuloy Seasons 84 and 85, lalo na 84 grabe yung mga OTs sa finals!
In fairness, Joaqui Manuel’s technical foul provided some much needed excitement kanina 😂 - the resulting memes were great! Sa fan stream in Pilipinas Live, may nagpredict na guest in at least one of the previous DLSU games that Joaqui Manuel would get a technical foul hahahaha (usually kasi the predictions are more general like “a coach/player would get a technical foul”). After game 3, I think medyo mamimiss ko mga antics ni Joaqui and the resulting memes 😅
I still find it exciting though, esp if one side of the arena suffers a prolonged silence while the other continues with its boisterous cheering lol

We’ll take this L. As long as KQ, Nelle, and Mike (and Poli and Nonoy) don’t get their usual point totals, I’m good. Escandor, David, and Austria all erupting at the same time can’t happen twice in a series. And UP won’t shoot 10% from deep all the time. Pahinga muna, shake off the gigil that led to all those missed open shots and offensive fouls.
Very good point. Hard for DLSU to replicate that. KQ and Nelle will have to have bigger scoring games for them to win a winner take all game 3. Up players particularly the guards have to step up too and take advantage of their depth. Looking forward to a nail biter game 3 (hopefully).-Maui

I agree. I know coach Topex definitely thinks about this having won without the usual contributions from two of their main guys. I feel Game three will bring the "usual" out of the main guys of both teams (law of averages!).
