what I love about coach Topex is that he prioritizes the academics of the players over basketball. as a Lasallian, i'm happy we won and happy for coach Topex to get his first champion after 3 tries and even if we lost the Finals, I really believe he's the best coach we can get.

This was reminiscent of the Juno Sauler Championship Run where la salle started out slow in round 1 and then swept round 2 lost game 1 and won the next couple games. Glad Topex got over the hump. And whats nice is the ADMU fans were cheering for DLSU 😂😂

I’m a die hard Blue Eagles supporter since 2006 and despite my husband being from UP 😆i found myself rooting for DLSU after that epic bounce back in Game 2. To have mightily returned after such a demoralizing loss showed that it’s talent plus mental toughness that the coaches were able to develop in their players. This is definitely my favorite DLSU team in recent memory! As their rival even Ateneans are happy to see them back on top. looking forward to more Ateneo DLSU matches in Season 87! Can’t wait! Yeah I've also noticed that obviously they came in droves and very loud, matching UP's crowd, the Ateneo crowd in my own.observation the fervor and intensity of support had a little bit diminished recently unlike.during the five peat era

Saw the game live with my 8y/o lasalista son. Around 55 to 60% pa ren siguro ang up crowd. But yes di nagpatalo dlsu crowd, sumasabay sa cheers, and jeers lol
I called it! La Salle in 3, the perfect script got the perfect ending. All the stars were lining up and it was easy to see that UP felt they already had the championship sewn up as evidenced by all the misplaced bravado and machismo in games leading towards the finals. Overconfidence and a little bit of karma finally caught up with them. Back to back runner U.P. finishes where they were heavily favored in both series may finally force this team to eat some humble pie. Great adjustments by Topex after that game 1 shellacking. And KQ showed why he's the undisputed MVP for this season. Congrats DLSU! Probably my favorite La Salle team ever (been watching ever since the Jun Reyes-Dindo Pumaren days). Can we finally have an Ateneo-La Salle final next season please? Salute to our true rivals! 🫡

As a halfbreed up/admu alum (im a marooned eagle lol), i say both my two schools ate humble pie this year. Just notice those who 'celebrated' every admu loss, ngayon sa up naman dahil olats sa finals. Definitely the two most hated schools this year lol Re rivalry, if not for tab and admu, it could've easily been a dlsu-up rivalry, bec they've been the most stacked teams trhe past few seasons. Perhaps as early as 2018 if nag-extend 1 year si mbala at nagpang-abot with bright And quite frankly, im liking this better. Pareho kase barako/'palaban'. Frat boys on both sides. Male-dominated eng'g/sports science majors etc. More course offerings both schools, kaya mas diverse/'colorful' din mga communities. Kung dito nag-aya yung up official ng old style frat rambulan (2018 finals), sureshot may kakasa from dlsu side LOL
Btw.GS ako nung pumaren/reyes years and yes that opened my eyes to this storied rivalry. Kaya yun pa ren fave ko na dlsu team bec match pa with admu. Their 4peat era, and our 5peat, masyado na lopsided lol

Just wondering, did you ever mention the crucial help being given by the assistant coaches, particularly Caloy Garcia? I just noticed that when things are not going well with DLSU, Coach Caloy is the one coaching especially if they need adjustments. Maybe you can delve on this also.
WHAT A GAME!! ANIMO! 💚 Thank you Boleros, as much as UAAP86 was already electric as it is (a wild elimination round with a 3-team race to the #1 and #2 spots, and at one point a 4-team down the wire slugfest for the #4 spot - which ended up with a knockout playoff game. I think this was the most competitive elimination round we have seen in the UAAP. Remember AdU upsetting NU that shook the standings up and kept their Final4 hopes alive? How about the last weekend to cap off the eliminations? That was as good as it gets!! The classic ADMU v DLSU Rd2 rivalry game, the UP v NU to claim the #1 spot, and that AdU v UE cardiac nailbiter with a wild ending!!), your postgame podcast provided interesting views and perspective to an already action-filled UAAP season. Good job guys for ballin' out for all of us this S86!! 👏👏👏
Actually 2013 season was pretty similar to this season, as crazy and as exciting, even how dlsu swept the 2nd round then eventually wins the series in games 2 and 3.. this is like a dejavu of that season.

Even the rollercoaster game 3 was practically the same, down at the end of first half, clawed back into the game in the 3rd and 4th, the only difference was, S76 game3 went to overtime. Even the last 3-point shot from both UST and UP respectively was taken by their FSA's Karim-Abdul and Malick Diouf. Even the miscues and turnovers during the crucial minutes. Jeron had a couple of bad passes, KQ also had a crucial turnover. 🤯🤯🤯
After So many Heartbreaks in recent years, finally we erase all these moments and finally celebrate the title! DLSU showed resilience, determination, and KQ really unleashed his MVP Form in the most important game of the season! Congratulations DLSU Green Archers! As a UP alumnus, this loss will sting for a veryyy long time. It still baffles me as to why UP lost their composure. They had a lot of chances to win that game, they just couldn’t get it done. Some pointers from this last game - KQ is a different breed, pro ready - UP despite their championship experience, seemed rattled last 6 minutes of the game - Questionable decision making from the UP staff, not callinh timeouts, not bringing in veterans - Malick Diouf is a very smart player, always making the right reads - JanJan Felicilda despite his height is an extremely good playmaker, making all the crucial passes to Diouf - Never thought I’d say that it was heartwarming to see Evan and Mark win a championship 🤣 - Refs as usual were trash 😂 Congrats to DLSU! Pagbigyan mo na ako Kuya Mau at sa DLSU muna ako kumampi kanina 🤣

Read an article in the Inquirer that Goldwin said the team lacked discipline in the end of game 3. What he failed to mention is that issue was on him. Whether it was failed in devising a good gameplan or fostering a good team culture. Topex did both better. DLSU had no business winning the next 2 games after getting blown out by 30 and yet kudos to Topex and DLSU for doing it anyway.
I have to agree somewhat. I thought defense was going to win them the championship but their offense was too horrible to overcome. They lost composure in those last 2 games and didn't look like the more experienced team. Also, what was with those rotations, Coach Gold?! - Gab
I agree with the questionable benching of JD and CJ in the latter minutes of the 4th. I was confused of the thought process ng coaching staff. The closest I could think of was Janjan being a bullpup so mas may favor? I don't even need to think that way but maaaaaaaaan. Hassle. JD could've atleast stabilize the team just like Nelle did. Harold's rushed three for me was stupid. He could've had one more pass to CJ or at least get a decent shot. Overall, KQ and the rest of DLSU just wanted it more and UP lost their composure. I dont think its favoritism maybe the Up staff just thought they a better chance with janjan than Jd. Which is thought was crazy given how they were playing down the stretch but I believe it was warranted too because of how both have been playing today and all season long. Very true! Since the offseason, I've noticed how positive and fun the atmosphere was around the team. There were bumps along the way but Coach Topex made adjustments and brought home the chip. Amazing first season 👍 - Gab

Good job this season guys. My prediction for a 3-game triumph by UP almost turned out to be true save for the efforts of KQ. Literally mimicked Atlas when he carried the weight of the (La Sallian) world on his shoulders. UP Maroons should burn this into their collective memories and play with a chip on their shoulders come next season. They’ll surely bounce back.

Only 1 made 3 the entire game for UP was crazy. And parang nagkamali din UP after their last time out. They wanted Gerry on that possession but wasn't allowed to sub in. Di ata nasabi sa scorer's table idk. For DLSU, this is so similar to the 2013 run. Great job this season, Boleros!

UP fan here, sad but I still feel DLSU really deserved the win and the champs this season. KQ really proved that there is no such thing as MVP curse, and he cemented himself as one of the UAAP greats and a King Archer. I just want to point out that I feel like the only reason that JD didn't play heavy minutes was due to the turnovers he made during the game, he had 4 TO's and I feel like Janjan was having a better game even if the former had game 3 experience than the latter. But like what you guys said, even if we think UP has the bag for this game, DLSU really managed to overcome and like what you guys said, peaked at the right time. I think La Salle is the team to beat next season especially with the reigning MVP returning (hopefully) and a very dangerous FSA (based from highlights) coming to their school. I must say that I'm still proud of UP especially with the rough history we had throughout the years in UAAP Basketball. Win or lose, UP Fight! May gusto rin sana ako ma-comment about sa pag-bench kay JD during crucial moments. Kapalitan niya si Felicilda na +6 sa efficiency compare kay JD na -10. Maybe the coaches of UP knew this one na medyo maalat kaya nilabas. I dont think dahil mas familiar yung isa sa system ni Coach Gold o bias. Nandun si JD sa time na naka-3 points si Nelle at nag-init na si KQ tapos lumamang na La Salle. Pansin ko lang, aside from pag pinapasok si CJ Cansino, papasok din yung isang CJ sa DLSU na si Austria. Tapos pag kay JD naman, si Joshua David ang napasok. Chess match talaga ang nangyayari between the two coaches. Si Diouf parang may iniinda talaga kasi dati pag ganong mga pasa sa knya sa loob dunk agad eh. Tapos isang tabi lang ni Austria natumba agad. Pero kung wala siya sa loob tapos na usapan kung sino panalo. Pero yung sa totoo lang UP had a lots of chances to take it back. Ang galing lang din mag-dictate ng La Salle sa gusto nila na mangyari sa huli. Habol ko na rin to. Parang check si JD pag si Joshua David ang bantay. Maybe the familiarity between the two from LSGH kaya hindi na takot sa gulang si David, si Nelle kasi tinataga pa niya eh. Add ko na lang din na 4 turnovers are too much for a ballhandler. UP is heavily stacked, and they have the best import in the UAAP. lagi ngang dehado ang La Salle dahil yung import nila is such a liability in offense and defense. But la salle has the best player in the league, Kevin Quiambao and they believe in their coach. These are enough for them to win the championship.

JD still has 1 yr because of a loophole during covid. I think he enrolled at St. Claire for 1 semester before transferring to UP. So it wasnt counted as a transfer from a UAAP school making him eligible for 1 more year.
I shared that theory also with Maui and Sam. Don't know if it's true, but it doesn't look good talaga on Coach Gold. I know JD didn't have a good game, but he's the GUY in the clutch. Dude won them a title. I mean, even if Kobe/Lebron was 0/20 for a whole game, you would still have them out there in the final minutes, diba? Ewan, i was frustrated with UP and their rotations - Gab

I can easily understand why fans of DLSU and UP are so blind to see the obvious. It was really a NO BRAINER. HEART wins championship, not experience. ADMU did not win against UP via experience. UP with all their experience did not win it last season and this season ... HEART wins CHAMPIONSHIP ... NO stats, Xs and Os win championships ... Cagulangan is OVERRATED; he was checkmated ... He is not the best point guard in the UAAP, Nelle is ... 😂😂😂
The Cagulangan and Nelle rivalry has been going on since high school. They both said they respect each other and bring out the best in each other. It wouldve been better if they got to match up more. The fact that JD was not being played as much as Nelle was disappointing. - sam

Much has been said about Cansino and Cagulangan on being on the bench. I disagree. The former NU Bullpups kept UP in the game. It was simply stopped by the block on Abadiano, but still FAIRY ABADIANO stole the inbound but simply lost his balance. He almost made Nelle a real LOSER. Gold knows that it takes HEART ❤❤❤ to win championship, not talent, not skill, not experience. If there is any school who knows this TRUTH AND REALITY, IT IS ADMU. ❤❤❤ HEART WINS CHAMPIONSHIP. So Ano na? Sabi ko sa Inyo di ba? Underdog ang UP. Can we now write the right narrative?😂😂😂 Obviously dehado ang UP sa La Salle in terms of big men/front court. In a match in UAAP history between big men vs guards, big men as the main guns always win in finals. Outlier lang pag nananalo ang guard over big men. After all, basketball is big men's sports. Not to take away anything from KQ but the championship is 70% due to Topex and coaching staff game plan and 30% from La Salle players for good execution esp KQ and Nelle. Coach Topex and La Salle coaching staff had just rediscovered the recipe for championship, stat wise. Stat wise they checked all the key boxes to win in a game. I won't say what, baka malaman pa ng iba kung pano magpredict ng games based on metrics statistically 😂😂😂😂 When I checked the trad stats first half, I knew right away La Salle's gonna win despite UP leading. It's not that I don't believe in UP as a fan pero objectively analysing the stats, wala e, the championship direction points talaga to La Salle e. Inenjoy ko na lang second half. Cheer, cheer ganon😂😂😂 Obviously, UP cracked in pressure. They were rattled when the gap in scores was getting thin in the last 6 minutes of 4th quarter. It was Coach Gold's call to make Janjan handle the plays than JD in that 6 minute mark. Francis made a rookie error in the crucial minutes of the game in 4th quarter. Aldous made a mistake when he gambled reaching out and tried to steal the ball from KQ which led to KQ 3pt shot. The guards and veterans, the usual suspects, didn't step up for the finals game2 and 3 offensively. I can actually go on and on what went wrong from UPs side but it's pointless and useless. La Salle is now the champion. All I can say is, La Salle deserve the championship. There's no contention to this. It was the same game plan in round 2. So hats off to them.
naah. before the season started its always been UP. even the pinoy basketball fans knew...its just DLSU peaked at the right time. you depending on the game itself or results/stats not on the players they have. You have the best FSA, current veterans plus blue chip recruits and a good coaching staff. that's why they tagged as heavy favorite. this is coach topex 1st season. unlike UP finals appearances. early in the season its UP and NU, at some stretches in the season its Ateneo (because of tab) are the favorites over La Salle.
What's the concern about being labeled as the underdogs? Is it to soften the blow in case of a loss? Honestly, UP has consistently been portrayed as the underdog, a narrative that's been upheld since Season 84. Yet, here we are, still embracing that status. What's the deal?
Why are you so hung up the UP-most-be-underdog narrative? UP had been winning/gaining good records in their pre-season tournaments. UP had "assembled" a pool of talented guys. Your "rookie" excuse weren't played as the main guys throughout the season, UP had vets. UP wasn't the underdog the regular season, compare them to the rest of the UAAP schools(Just accept that already) The underdog card wasn't raised in the finals because DLSU and UP were somehow a bit even skill wise. Yes DLSU had the bigs but UP had THE GUARDS, an MVP center, an athletic wing AND A CHAMPION COACH.
Underdog is a term coined to refer to something or someone that is in disadvantage, dehado kontra opponents. So what I've been saying all season long, underdog can be used depending on the opponent. Meanwhile, they can't be called this season's underdog because they're llamado over UST, NU, FEU, UE and Adu. That can't be said over La Salle and Ateneo. I look at it per match up and the underdog can be used to emphasize that UP is in disadvantage against La Salle. People just didn't believe because UP had been winning. It's just that, at that time, the most stacked and more senior La Salle players were still chokers. That's why it was overlooked. The best individual pieces are there for Coach Topex to assemble meanwhile Coach Gold had to be creative to match the size disparity all season long when facing La Salle.

Honestly, can you really say that UP won a championship? It was obviously a chamba win. But hey kahit chamba on record they are the S84 champions. But I think they still can’t really say they are legitimate champions. Kudos to DLSU they really won that championship.

what I love about coach Topex is that he prioritizes the academics of the players over basketball. as a Lasallian, i'm happy we won and happy for coach Topex to get his first champion after 3 tries and even if we lost the Finals, I really believe he's the best coach we can get.

This was reminiscent of the Juno Sauler Championship Run where la salle started out slow in round 1 and then swept round 2 lost game 1 and won the next couple games. Glad Topex got over the hump. And whats nice is the ADMU fans were cheering for DLSU 😂😂
Yeah have you seen the Church of Gesu lit up.on Green. moments after LaSalle won,, it's such a nice show of gesture and respect from the Blue and White community to the men in Green, Congrats to LaSalle,#Animo, so.many past playera came to watch and they never disappoint, props to LaSalle.supporters for showing up bigtime and match the usually big UP crowd.

I’m a die hard Blue Eagles supporter since 2006 and despite my husband being from UP 😆i found myself rooting for DLSU after that epic bounce back in Game 2. To have mightily returned after such a demoralizing loss showed that it’s talent plus mental toughness that the coaches were able to develop in their players. This is definitely my favorite DLSU team in recent memory! As their rival even Ateneans are happy to see them back on top. looking forward to more Ateneo DLSU matches in Season 87! Can’t wait!

Yeah I've also noticed that obviously they came in droves and very loud, matching UP's crowd, the Ateneo crowd in my own.observation the fervor and intensity of support had a little bit diminished recently unlike.during the five peat era

Saw the game live with my 8y/o lasalista son. Around 55 to 60% pa ren siguro ang up crowd. But yes di nagpatalo dlsu crowd, sumasabay sa cheers, and jeers lol
I called it! La Salle in 3, the perfect script got the perfect ending. All the stars were lining up and it was easy to see that UP felt they already had the championship sewn up as evidenced by all the misplaced bravado and machismo in games leading towards the finals. Overconfidence and a little bit of karma finally caught up with them. Back to back runner U.P. finishes where they were heavily favored in both series may finally force this team to eat some humble pie.
Great adjustments by Topex after that game 1 shellacking. And KQ showed why he's the undisputed MVP for this season.
Congrats DLSU! Probably my favorite La Salle team ever (been watching ever since the Jun Reyes-Dindo Pumaren days). Can we finally have an Ateneo-La Salle final next season please?

As a halfbreed up/admu alum (im a marooned eagle lol), i say both my two schools ate humble pie this year. Just notice those who 'celebrated' every admu loss, ngayon sa up naman dahil olats sa finals. Definitely the two most hated schools this year lol
Re rivalry, if not for tab and admu, it could've easily been a dlsu-up rivalry, bec they've been the most stacked teams trhe past few seasons. Perhaps as early as 2018 if nag-extend 1 year si mbala at nagpang-abot with bright
And quite frankly, im liking this better. Pareho kase barako/'palaban'. Frat boys on both sides. Male-dominated eng'g/sports science majors etc. More course offerings both schools, kaya mas diverse/'colorful' din mga communities. Kung dito nag-aya yung up official ng old style frat rambulan (2018 finals), sureshot may kakasa from dlsu side LOL

UP (both players and coaching staff) losing their late game composure is so uncharacteristic of them (6 scoreless minutes in the 4th quarter is unacceptable). Just wondering, did you ever mention the crucial help being given by the assistant coaches, particularly Caloy Garcia? I just noticed that when things are not going well with DLSU, Coach Caloy is the one coaching especially if they need adjustments. Maybe you can delve on this also.

Thank you Boleros, as much as UAAP86 was already electric as it is (a wild elimination round with a 3-team race to the #1 and #2 spots, and at one point a 4-team down the wire slugfest for the #4 spot - which ended up with a knockout playoff game. I think this was the most competitive elimination round we have seen in the UAAP. Remember AdU upsetting NU that shook the standings up and kept their Final4 hopes alive? How about the last weekend to cap off the eliminations? That was as good as it gets!! The classic ADMU v DLSU Rd2 rivalry game, the UP v NU to claim the #1 spot, and that AdU v UE cardiac nailbiter with a wild ending!!), your postgame podcast provided interesting views and perspective to an already action-filled UAAP season. Good job guys for ballin' out for all of us this S86!! 👏👏👏

Actually 2013 season was pretty similar to this season, as crazy and as exciting, even how dlsu swept the 2nd round then eventually wins the series in games 2 and 3.. this is like a dejavu of that season.

Even the rollercoaster game 3 was practically the same, down at the end of first half, clawed back into the game in the 3rd and 4th, the only difference was, S76 game3 went to overtime. Even the last 3-point shot from both UST and UP respectively was taken by their FSA's Karim-Abdul and Malick Diouf. Even the miscues and turnovers during the crucial minutes. Jeron had a couple of bad passes, KQ also had a crucial turnover. 🤯🤯🤯

After So many Heartbreaks in recent years, finally we erase all these moments and finally celebrate the title! DLSU showed resilience, determination, and KQ really unleashed his MVP Form in the most important game of the season! Congratulations DLSU Green Archers! Kudos to UP for making DLSU earn it, dominated the elims, fought till the end but unfortunately, there can only be one champion.
Grabe yung KQ. Even when he was struggling on offense, his defense won them the game. A true MVP!
As a UP alumnus, this loss will sting for a veryyy long time. It still baffles me as to why UP lost their composure. They had a lot of chances to win that game, they just couldn’t get it done.

- KQ is a different breed, pro ready
- UP despite their championship experience, seemed rattled last 6 minutes of the game
- Questionable decision making from the UP staff, not callinh timeouts, not bringing in veterans
- Malick Diouf is a very smart player, always making the right reads
- JanJan Felicilda despite his height is an extremely good playmaker, making all the crucial passes to Diouf
- Never thought I’d say that it was heartwarming to see Evan and Mark win a championship 🤣
- Refs as usual were trash 😂

Yeah, i was never surprised when ive learned most Ateneans are rooting for LaSalle instead on their Katipunan neighbor since coach Tab and Topex were good friends,.i pity for graduating Cansino amd Cagulangan they were sitting on the bench when the game is so toght amd UP players loosing composure,.could it be a favoritism by coaching staff favoring a former.bullpups getting more playing time over to the proven and veterans like CJ and JD

You can really see that coach Topex has a good relationship w/ his players, iba yung boost na binibigay nya sa team. For KQ, grabe... from NU jrs. To batang gilas, to gilas, to UAAP srs. - from ROTY to MVP, wow...he never stops & he keeps getting better...sometimes you'll see him nasa gym after or before ng game. He works hard & he deserves the MVP award talaga. 👏🫡 Kudos also to Mike Phillips, ganda ng performance nya this season esp last game (G2), as well as Evan.
For UP, Alarcon's attempt to score w/ 20 or 19seconds pa, nag madali... for Lopez, gigil maka score nakakalimot.. and for Joaqui Manuel, haayyyy... buti na lang nag champion sila.🤦♀️🤷♀️

Read an article in the Inquirer that Goldwin said the team lacked discipline in the end of game 3. What he failed to mention is that issue was on him. Whether it was failed in devising a good gameplan or fostering a good team culture. Topex did both better. DLSU had no business winning the next 2 games after getting blown out by 30 and yet kudos to Topex and DLSU for doing it anyway.
I have to agree somewhat. I thought defense was going to win them the championship but their offense was too horrible to overcome. They lost composure in those last 2 games and didn't look like the more experienced team. Also, what was with those rotations, Coach Gold?! - Gab
I agree with the questionable benching of JD and CJ in the latter minutes of the 4th. I was confused of the thought process ng coaching staff. The closest I could think of was Janjan being a bullpup so mas may favor? I don't even need to think that way but maaaaaaaaan. Hassle. JD could've atleast stabilize the team just like Nelle did.
Harold's rushed three for me was stupid. He could've had one more pass to CJ or at least get a decent shot.
Overall, KQ and the rest of DLSU just wanted it more and UP lost their composure. Kudos to them. It's really heartbreaking that it happened again in 2 consecutive seasons.

I dont think its favoritism maybe the Up staff just thought they a better chance with janjan than Jd. Which is thought was crazy given how they were playing down the stretch but I believe it was warranted too because of how both have been playing today and all season long. Very true! Since the offseason, I've noticed how positive and fun the atmosphere was around the team. There were bumps along the way but Coach Topex made adjustments and brought home the chip. Amazing first season 👍 - Gab

Good job this season guys. My prediction for a 3-game triumph by UP almost turned out to be true save for the efforts of KQ. Literally mimicked Atlas when he carried the weight of the (La Sallian) world on his shoulders. UP Maroons should burn this into their collective memories and play with a chip on their shoulders come next season. They’ll surely bounce back.

Only 1 made 3 the entire game for UP was crazy. And parang nagkamali din UP after their last time out. They wanted Gerry on that possession but wasn't allowed to sub in. Di ata nasabi sa scorer's table idk.
For DLSU, this is so similar to the 2013 run.

UP fan here, sad but I still feel DLSU really deserved the win and the champs this season. KQ really proved that there is no such thing as MVP curse, and he cemented himself as one of the UAAP greats and a King Archer. I just want to point out that I feel like the only reason that JD didn't play heavy minutes was due to the turnovers he made during the game, he had 4 TO's and I feel like Janjan was having a better game even if the former had game 3 experience than the latter. But like what you guys said, even if we think UP has the bag for this game, DLSU really managed to overcome and like what you guys said, peaked at the right time. I think La Salle is the team to beat next season especially with the reigning MVP returning (hopefully) and a very dangerous FSA (based from highlights) coming to their school. I must say that I'm still proud of UP especially with the rough history we had throughout the years in UAAP Basketball. Win or lose, UP Fight! Thank you boleros for the insane coverage of UAAP Mens' Basketball every after day that there is a game and/or news. I learned a lot from you guys for a thorough and balanced analyses of games, and like you guys I also love the sport, so thank you so much!
Agree naman that Felicilda was having a better game than JD. Kita naman sa stats. But like what I said in multiple comments here in the video, I like having my main guys out there in crunch time hehe. Baka old school lang ako. You don't have to look far. KQ and Nelle were having bad games actually (poor shooting and lots of TOs) but they were there in the end

May gusto rin sana ako ma-comment about sa pag-bench kay JD during crucial moments. Kapalitan niya si Felicilda na +6 sa efficiency compare kay JD na -10. Maybe the coaches of UP knew this one na medyo maalat kaya nilabas. I dont think dahil mas familiar yung isa sa system ni Coach Gold o bias. Nandun si JD sa time na naka-3 points si Nelle at nag-init na si KQ tapos lumamang na La Salle. Pansin ko lang, aside from pag pinapasok si CJ Cansino, papasok din yung isang CJ sa DLSU na si Austria. Tapos pag kay JD naman, si Joshua David ang napasok. Chess match talaga ang nangyayari between the two coaches. Si Diouf parang may iniinda talaga kasi dati pag ganong mga pasa sa knya sa loob dunk agad eh. Tapos isang tabi lang ni Austria natumba agad. Pero kung wala siya sa loob tapos na usapan kung sino panalo. Pero yung sa totoo lang UP had a lots of chances to take it back. Ang galing lang din mag-dictate ng La Salle sa gusto nila na mangyari sa huli.
Habol ko na rin to. Parang check si JD pag si Joshua David ang bantay. Maybe the familiarity between the two from LSGH kaya hindi na takot sa gulang si David, si Nelle kasi tinataga pa niya eh. Supplanted about a decade later by pangilinan when he took over the BE program. Kaya petmalu na ren recruits ng admu since then, meron pa at the earliest level (AGS). UP is heavily stacked, and they have the best import in the UAAP. lagi ngang dehado ang La Salle dahil yung import nila is such a liability in offense and defense. But la salle has the best player in the league, Kevin Quiambao and they believe in their coach. These are enough for them to win the championship.

JD still has 1 yr because of a loophole during covid. I think he enrolled at St. Claire for 1 semester before transferring to UP. So it wasnt counted as a transfer from a UAAP school making him eligible for 1 more year.

In a match in UAAP history between big men vs guards, big men as the main guns always win in finals. Outlier lang pag nananalo ang guard over big men. After all, basketball is big men's sports.
Not to take away anything from KQ but the championship is 70% due to Topex and coaching staff game plan and 30% from La Salle players for good execution esp KQ and Nelle. Coach Topex and La Salle coaching staff had just rediscovered the recipe for championship, stat wise. Stat wise they checked all the key boxes to win in a game. I won't say what, baka malaman pa ng iba kung pano magpredict ng games based on metrics statistically 😂😂😂😂
When I checked the trad stats first half, I knew right away La Salle's gonna win despite UP leading. It's not that I don't believe in UP as a fan pero objectively analysing the stats, wala e, the championship direction points talaga to La Salle e. Inenjoy ko na lang second half. Cheer, cheer ganon😂😂😂
Obviously, UP cracked in pressure. They were rattled when the gap in scores was getting thin in the last 6 minutes of 4th quarter. It was Coach Gold's call to make Janjan handle the plays than JD in that 6 minute mark. Francis made a rookie error in the crucial minutes of the game in 4th quarter. Aldous made a mistake when he gambled reaching out and tried to steal the ball from KQ which led to KQ 3pt shot. The guards and veterans, the usual suspects, didn't step up for the finals game2 and 3 offensively. I can actually go on and on what went wrong from UPs side but it's pointless and useless. La Salle is now the champion.
All I can say is, La Salle deserve the championship. There's no contention to this. It was the same game plan in round 2. So hats off to them.
naah. before the season started its always been UP. even the pinoy basketball fans knew...its just DLSU peaked at the right time. you depending on the game itself or results/stats not on the players they have. You have the best FSA, current veterans plus blue chip recruits and a good coaching staff. that's why they tagged as heavy favorite. this is coach topex 1st season. unlike UP finals appearances. early in the season its UP and NU, at some stretches in the season its Ateneo (because of tab) are the favorites over La Salle.
What's the concern about being labeled as the underdogs? Is it to soften the blow in case of a loss? Honestly, UP has consistently been portrayed as the underdog, a narrative that's been upheld since Season 84. Yet, here we are, still embracing that status. What's the deal?
Why are you so hung up the UP-most-be-underdog narrative?
UP had been winning/gaining good records in their pre-season tournaments.
UP had "assembled" a pool of talented guys. Your "rookie" excuse weren't played as the main guys throughout the season, UP had vets.
UP wasn't the underdog the regular season, compare them to the rest of the UAAP schools(Just accept that already)
The underdog card wasn't raised in the finals because DLSU and UP were somehow a bit even skill wise. Yes DLSU had the bigs but UP had THE GUARDS, an MVP center, an athletic wing AND A CHAMPION COACH.
Underdog is a term coined to refer to something or someone that is in disadvantage, dehado kontra opponents. So what I've been saying all season long, underdog can be used depending on the opponent.
Meanwhile, they can't be called this season's underdog because they're llamado over UST, NU, FEU, UE and Adu. That can't be said over La Salle and Ateneo. I look at it per match up and the underdog can be used to emphasize that UP is in disadvantage against La Salle. People just didn't believe because UP had been winning. It's just that, at that time, the most stacked and more senior La Salle players were still chokers. That's why it was overlooked.
The best individual pieces are there for Coach Topex to assemble meanwhile Coach Gold had to be creative to match the size disparity all season long when facing La Salle.

Honestly, can you really say that UP won a championship? It was obviously a chamba win. But hey kahit chamba on record they are the S84 champions. But I think they still can’t really say they are legitimate champions. Kudos to DLSU they really won that championship.
how was it a chamba win? all final 4 and finals they were executing and performing clutch and even in that eliminations. daming hate. smh.
