    You say it doesn't depend on thumbnail, but then at 4:40 you say if only 2 out of 100 people click then it wont be promoted. It all goes back to thumbnail once again because thumbnail and title is what makes people click in the first place.

    here's what you didn't account for... The higher view video had a higher view duration in its first 500 views and the CT was higher. After it was served to a broader audience, it didn't convert as well and numbers dropped.

    • @Marcus-Jones

      That is true, TAM is something to consider. Especially with a large channel like yours. But I think for the vast majority people, their problem isn't that they've hit the ceiling of their niche. Their video just isn't good enough to be promoted to larger audiences

    I like when UA-camrs say it’s not about luck, but it’s about dedication in the grind and what’s funny is I do think you have to put in hard work to increase your chances of getting lucky if that makes any sense. I posted the exact same video and two different UA-cam channels and the only difference was the UA-cam channel that it was posted to the title the tags the time and the hashtags everything else was identical. One video got seven views while the other video got 2500.

    • @kenny_eats_many
      @kenny_eats_many 4 місяці тому +6

      Yes, title, the description, the tags it all matters, when the video is done the thumbnail must be interesting and the tags must be relevant there are alot of tools and websites to find and choose good tags for description and even the title, in the end the video's first 30 seconds matter as well, if the you tuber can keep the viewer engaged for 30 seconds then only the you tube counts the view count correctly and sends to other viewers to see, all in all even if 2 videos are giving the same Information with same value in it, the other video might out perform if the you tuber is smart, and even if it doesn't then just upload another video.

      Luck is just odds and probability. Do some people get "lucky" and do all the right things without knowing, and blow up overnight? Sure, it happens. But you shouldn't bank on it. Just like if you were an investor in the stock market, you should manage your luck. If you work smart, consistently, and hard on the things you can control, eventually you'll get "lucky". There's a cool quote: "luck is just preperation meeting opportunity"

      Love the analogy and quote! I have been on UA-cam for 18 years and my growth has been. Well doesn't reflect the years I have been on UA-cam lol. Your channel is the first channel I have enjoyed watching. You help describe the ins and outs of how to grow your channel. You present it in a clear concise way that doesn't talk down to your audience or is distracting. I thank you. Now I just have to find the time to grind out the data. I honestly have always been so busy with real life or just figured I could not keep up with the bigger channels that it was not a priority. I am finally starting to change that way of thinking. "Old dog new tricks" and all that. Looks like I have number crunching to do. Only have close to 3,000 videos to do it for lol.

    @Marcus Jones does UA-cam suppress or not push videos that get flagged for a copyright strike right away? Like if I upload and content ID immediately flags my video, is the video just automatically basically dead with no views from there on because it got flagged just or unjustly? Or does stuff like this not affect the videos performance at all in terms of views and being pushed by the algorithm?

    Great video Marcus, I'm really struggling with titles right now just when I thought I had momentum. I've been using google docs, trends, TubeBuddy, UA-cam and I feel like I'm getting worse with my titles when I know my videos are getting a little better each time. This is crazy I feel like I would be better off with no tools like I did in the beginning and just guess for the most part and it was ok. Now I have data for retention but titles are killing me! I look at youtube data and now I'm changing titles probably too often. I HAVE NOT FOUND ONE DECENT VIDEO ON MAKING GOOD TITLES! It seems all YT Teachers say exactly the same thing to make good titles. They go through the motions, but they don't get into the details and the numbers and what they represent especially with the YT help tools apps and services. So many tools and so little advice. I enjoyed the video thanks

    One thing that's worth mentioning is that impressions and clicks from search can drive CTR up, f.ex. if you have a video that dominates a small search term (i.e low search volume), but doesn't preform at all from browse. UA-cam will only show it from search, and it will get clicks from the very limited impression it gets.

      This is exactly what I noticed as well. It seems like YT does a same sort of "testing" phase for new channels and if you aren't scoring high enough numbers within an audience category, then YT effectively ends your channel pushing. This made me really think about making higher quality videos instead because YT was basically inflating my channel's worth during it's initial testing phase (seemed like a little over a month since the first upload I did). Or maybe I will just make a whole new channel altogether if making higher quality videos with less uploads doesn't work. Good luck!

    Hey Marcus, I'm watching this video and questioning where did you learn all this information about the UA-cam "test-drive". around minute 03:30 ? Where can we learn more about this? Is this information in UA-cam guidelines or something?

  • @GAMECLOSET
    @GAMECLOSET 4 місяці тому +1

    I didn’t do research, but I had a feeling this was happening. I’ve seen crap channels with very poor and boring videos with poor production value, get picked up. I KNOW of a person who’s channel (not videos) did well sub-wise, but he has barley any views on videos too. UA-cam doesn’t promote quality like you think they should.

  • @ATRestoration
    @ATRestoration 4 місяці тому +1

    UA-cam measures multiple viewer behaviours, not only 2. For example, how long they watched, how many videos they watche after your video, did they leave the platform after your video or not. If you don´t know it, the data can be confusing. The main focus is viewer satisfaction.

    It’s harder for a type beat channel because naturally people leave after so long and where it’s repetitive it’s very hard to find out what made them leave unlike a dynamic video where you can see the chapters and points that are not desirable. Idk how I made one of my videos do almost 500 views in 5 hrs but after that it’s been down hill again. I’m hoping and praying. My beats are just as good as some of the producers in my niche if not better. I’m almost convinced some of it’s luck because some new channels blow where others don’t and restart. Consistency is always good.

      @DrDeeeeep 4 місяці тому +1

      Same boat.. been uploading consistently on 2 different channels for over a year and I got the initial push every new channel gets but now I'm just uploading to get 300-400 views and then the beat stalls.. stats are pretty good but no blessing from the algorithm. Things have changed massively since 2020-2021 when it looked like stats actually mattered for YT to get impressions. Now it looks like nothing really works anymore.
      Just keep at it man. We're at least getting better beat by beat.

    • @JayTheYTGuy
      @JayTheYTGuy 4 місяці тому

      Sorry to hear to man. Def more success if getting email list, networking, selling/promoting kits and free stuff. A lot of producers can't be successful with a type beat channel but make a living. It's possible!@@DrDeeeeep

    Is there any way to "save" or reinvigorate a video that's flatlined? I upload once a month; decent titles, thumbnails, imo solid content... But last video flatlined after a week. Is there anything creators can do to breathe some life back into videos that no longer get promoted?

    Hi Marcus!! How are you? I have a particular question. I published a video, and the about, 5 hours later, ive realized that i didnt uploaded the edited thumbnail, therefore there was like a very bad beggining performance for that video. Then I uploaded the correct one, but then I kept thinking that maybe Ive already screwed the hole video. In that situation what would you recommend to do? Thanks for your video, they are very Usefull, gretings from Argentina!!

    I would love to the the course, But I am balancing health issues, being a full time dad, working 3 days a week and trying to do a channel to have a break from work. But I still care about my channels success as I would like to use it to build a community. I had a big spike on my content but feel a bad video or so killed that advance.
    I have heard turning of the automatic notification to subs on discord, UA-cam etc can help as UA-cam uses this to decide whether to promote or not? is this true?

I would say it’s a bit disappointing to make a video you put a good amount of effort into and it goes nowhere, sometimes I feel like UA-cam pick and choose channels they want to promote. I realize my thumbnails and titles aren’t very appealing to the viewers, but I’m using these tips for future videos! Thanks Marcus.
