My parents forced me into an abortion at 15. Was told I'd have to move away, change my name and never see my family. I almost died during the procedure, was put in a maternity ward full of breastfeeding mothers wondering why I was there.... So painful, needed a blood transfusion and iron shots after... then, a couple weeks later, I needed a second D & C as they didn't "get all of it". I never had children, ever. I'm 55. It haunted me forever. I finally went to confession several years ago and received forgiveness and mercy. The psychological and spiritual toll outweighs our fears of the future. God is good. God will provide for life, even life created in "evil". I will tell my story to whoever will listen. It's not worth the pain you will cause yourself. YOU WILL NOT FORGET.

@@MrCheesywaffles Does somebody wanting a child have to do with the intrinsic value and rights of the child? Why does society call killing a pregnancy woman a double homicide but allow abortion? Obviously, both are wrong

    • @carissahanson9887

I would agree both are wrong homicide when done to a pregnant woman is most definitely considered a double homicide but if we keep going on this route it won’t be considered such because the way they are looking at it is if a baby is wanted it’s valuable and if it’s not it’s disposable. I sincerely dislike the fact that in this show they only had pro abortion debaters for the most part not even hearing out the pro-life side. trying to demonize people for protecting the most innocent the child in the womb you are not supposed to punish the child for the sins of the father so in the case of rape you are just trading off one active violence for another. and once again planned parenthood in many cases will let rapists go free and not reported as well as pimps. no punishment for the person actually committed the crime. This should prove that it’s all about the bottom line children are commodities to be done away with when they are inconvenient and plant parenthood makes a bunch of money

Because they understand, deep down, what it is. That’s why, when pressed on this, they jump through any hoop they can to appear consistent. You’ll hear things like, “because they still *wanted* a baby, but that doesn’t mean a miscarriage was one” and “even though a miscarriage isn’t the death of a person, it is still sad because it is scary for the woman.” No joke. I’ve debated this ad nauseam and I still get the same stock answers.

The brain develops three weeks after the baby is conceived you can look it up. In addition to that if you look at the stories of some people who were about to be aborted, you will often see the doctors advise against having the baby only for the kid to live and for things to turn out fine. It is scarily shocking how many doctors suggested abortion only for things to turn out fine.

I was pressured into it by planned parenthood, scared to death, not counseled except to say that it would end my college career if i didn’t proceed and was drugged with Valium before undergoing a procedure without anesthetic. If it had been illegal my child would be here now. I later became Catholic and went to confession but even though I have been forgiven by God I struggle to forgive myself. Lila Rose is absolutely correct when she says that the trauma to the mother begins after the abortion. I can’t stand myself some days. It is hard. I look forward to one day meeting this child. @@bulletanarchy6447 I have pondered this quite a bit. I have to ask myself, do two wrongs make a right? I suppose you can ask any person who is now an adult if they’re happy to be alive instead of being aborted because they are a result of rape. And really, shouldn’t we be more concerned about punishment of the rapist and how the rape occurred in the first place instead of seeing how we feel about aborting a child? It blows my mind that when a 13 year old girl is raped, the discussion goes to the right to abort the baby instead of how in the world was she raped in the first place. But I guess when we’re in the midst of making a point we gloss over the details.

I was told by doctors to abort my daughter because she wouldn’t live past birth. She’s turning 16 years old in October and is such a joy in our family. ❤ Sadly, I was made to feel guilty about her health complications after she was born and told I should not have more children. So when I became pregnant again, I had an abortion based on medical recommendation. I grieve and regret it every day. Abortion is not the answer for any reason. I’ve watched this whole interview and I’ll be honest… it gets a little hard to watch later. Both Phil and Lila get heated and angry with each other because Lila tries to claim that human life beginning at fertilization is a scientific fact and Phil argues that there is no consensus in the scientific community about when human life begins. Lila then responds by pointing out that multiple medical doctors support her position and then Phil does the most irrational thing I’ve ever seen him do by essentially just calling her a liar. At that point, the debate essentially just devolves into a circular argument with Phil yelling and Lila getting flustered while trying her hardest not to yell. I’ve never seen Dr. Phil like that before and it was kind of scary. Not because I thought he would physically attack her or anything but just because it helped me realize just how deep of an affection many people in the world have for something as needlessly violent as abortion. I’ve always thought of Dr. Phil as a fairly calm and empathetic person but when it comes to abortion, he has a serious emotional hang up about it and will do or say anything to defend it.

Lila, you are the 'voice for the unborn' today and your courage is breath-taking. In the end, the Pro-Choice position is and always has been, a desperate argument based on 'how best to cover up (end) a pregnancy without the shame of it being seen as murder of the innocent. They in turn can justify their shame by following the government's stance of naming this slaughter, healthcare, see the 'baby' as not yet human, push the my body, my choice charade but in the end, they all know deep, deep down, it is an overwhelming act of selfishness and it's tormenting them. Sin is the gateway to death...having 'empathy' and owning their responsibility can only bring peace.

“The child isn’t born yet, it’s not there.” Would she have said that to that woman whose child had a fatal illness and aborted it? Nope because she would’ve said that was lack of empathy.

That word empathy is used in such funny ways these days. It used to be a strictly clinical word used by psychologists to explain why serial killers have no remorse for their victims. They have no empathy! So if you have empathy, congratulations! You're not a serial killer. But it doesn't mean you're a good person.

if you make a woman abort due to rape, she will have to live the rest of her life with the consequences of being raped and also killing her baby, abortion doesn't delete nor make the rape disappear

Matt- I honestly love your shows, how honest and real you are, how much you are for healing and the wonderful speakers you have on your shows. In short I am a big fan. I am prolife and I am a counselor who works with Rachel's Vineyard to led women back to the Church who have been through the grief of abortion. So clearly, you and I think very similarly about fighting for Life. However, I wanted to say that while I agreed with and was touched by how Lilla Rose addressed the folks on the show, I was frustrated that you were not more compassionate in your responses to those you did not agree with on the Dr, Phil show. Just as Lila Rose showed, compassion is what will change hearts. Intelligent arguments may make people think, but compassion makes them remember you. So please focus on compassion more and good arguments less. ( you did so in you comments about Lila Rose's responses--thank you!)This is just a gentle ask that all of us respond to the pain that drives people to feel desperate enough to have an abortion more and not as much on who won a point for our side. Peace and much love and respect.

But also remember, Jesus spoke very harshly to the Pharisees & money changers. I agree that compassion should be the main focus, but sometimes, some people need to have a reality check.

@@apubakeralpuffdaddy392 This is true, I just think that we focus so much on who is right and who is wrong that we often "Throw the first stone" at people we disagree with, without seeking to look more deeply at why they are acting out of hurt in the first place.

@@robynmosley148 Agreed. Women who've had abortion should be met with love, forgiveness, & patience. However, the advocates of abortion, especially if they're 'Catholic' need a spiritual drenching in cold holy water so they can wake up! These people have earned the scorn they receive. God's justice.

Good video! Matt I think it’s great that you admire Lila’s calm style of debating; I do too. but I’d disagree that we all necessarily need to strive to be like that, providing that we aren’t already. I think all styles of fighting for the truth have there place at some point with certain people. Sometimes I like watching aggressive/rough and tumble debaters because they help me build passion for what they are defending.

Thanks Matt, love your content. One thing which I think about... for years I've been a libertarian, and a key part of that is, I know how incompetent big governments can be. I see very clearly why an abortion because of rape or disability would be wrong. The tougher case would be if the pregnancy somehow threatens the life of the mother, and in that case I wouldn't want a bureaucrat to get between the mother and her doctor.
I like what Kanye West talked about in an interview with Joe Rogan. I think he called it "a real plan B," that is, a plan to make adoption easier and other solutions or support for young mothers who don't know what to do.
I'm always sceptical whether government force can solve a cultural problem. In many cases, I'd say it can make it worse.
I also think about educational solutions, which might be a little ambitious. Teaching adolescents how to control urges, like in your episode quoting what Saint Thomas Aquinas had to say about lust, and also techniques from the noble tradition of yoga. Obviously in a lot of cases they would fall upon deaf ears, but for those few who listen, it could literally be life-changing.
I'm curious if you or other listeners have some thoughts about those points
    God bless

The rape argument is just an appeal to emotion. If you ask 100 pro abortion folks would you be okay with outlawing abortion except in the case of rape or incest, 100 would respond with no. Furthermore, it's like 1/10 of 1% of cases of abortion - the last time I looked up those statistics. Admittedly, a fews ago, but the numbers wouldn't change that much, if they did.
