  • This is an extra video I made because I did not post anything by Beethoven yet and I really like Beethoven and I am getting a teacher soon and want to keep a record of how I used to play. It is very fun for me to play this song but very hard work. I learned this song 3 years ago by listening to it and watching videos of people playing it and I wanted to see if I could still play it today. I know it is not really good right now but I do not know how to make it better so I am going to start having lessons with a teacher who will teach me what I need to do to play songs like this better and more properly like a master. This video is for anyone who is interested in seeing how I play it now and can compare it later when I am much better. Maybe it will take me a very long time to get good enough to play it very well.
Later this week I will make a video of the second and third movements too.

You learned this by listening to it and watching others play? Please don't tell me you don't read music!! I'm sure you do! Well let me say, I'm glad you are aware of your playing on this and other classical pieces. One thing I always felt since I started watching your videos is that you (musically) probably 'learned to run before you could walk', (as my mother used to say to me) and you can most certainly 'run' that's for sure!! You would benefit greatly from having a teacher who will teach you to 'walk' You have a very raw natural gift and I'm sure a teacher would find it very easy work with you and take your playing to a whole new amazing level. At the moment your strengths are the Joplin rags and all those other similar fun styles of music which I love. Classical is not quite your strength (yet) but I'm sure with good guidance, it will be one of your many strengths. As far as I can see you have a great musical mind, a great ear for music, you have strong piano fingers and can effortlessly play things that many experienced players like myself still struggle to play. you have great co-ordination and above all you obviously have the passion for music. I really hope you continue making these videos!!

Holy Cow!! Leander!! You’ve been hiding this all this time? Just kidding; some things need a time to “rest.” In the future you will be thanking your younger self for making this record of your progress.
The ENERGY you put into this piece! Yes your skills will certainly improve but never lose this power that you have: not just in loudness or speed, but, but; what do I want to say? The power in gentleness, the power of showing people what you really feel.
I’m just one of many of your well wishers, and you have many. BUT the thing that is important is the music itself. Well, you already know that. Oh my, I hope the teacher can keep up with you.
I have a trumpet teacher . He really makes me work hard, and I love it. Even when he gives me scales and arpeggios to practice, I love it. The sounds are so beautiful, I want to hug them, somehow. When I open my case and see my trumpet, it’s so beautiful, there’s a little jump inside me. When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is of my trumpet lying in its case waiting for me. My second though is, “Rats, it’s too early to play, wake everybody up.” But I can hold it. And I do. That’s what music will do to you. But you already know that Leander.
