It was great to hear this on your channel. I’d like to say R.I.P. to composer, keyboardist and long time collaborator with Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays who died last February. He is irreplaceable, a great loss to jazz and the music community. As far as the music goes, this is another artist that I’ve loved since my late teens and the mixing of cultures in Pat’s music is wonderful. That groove is undeniable. I am glad you liked this and hope to see more on your channels brother. 🔥🔥🔥🔥👍
You have just watched one of the most beautiful and best groups evet
The way up record is a masterpiece!
This is my absolute favorite song by my favorite jazz artist
Only 3700 views in a year for this magnificent piece of music. Oh well. I loved it. One of my favorites of his.
The best musicians are never satisfied with where they are as players. They are always striving to improve.
Been a fan of him for decades. Beautiful guitar player... so smooth. His collaborations with keyboardist Lyle Mays are epic. I have 12 of his albums (vinyl). Try "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls"
Steely Dan and the Pat Metheny Group are one of my favourites of all time First Circle and Minuano are also amazing !
You musical taste is great 👍
He's gotta check out Minuano.
Loved the shock on your face when Pat switched to playing his Roland GS, that has a MIDI component as part of the guitar.
This is one of the greatest pieces of music i've ever heard, almost on par with "Are you going with me?".
Do yourself a favor and go down the Pat Metheny rabbit hole album by album starting with the first one from 1976 Bright Sized Life👍🏽
The only thing better than listening to PMG is watching the reaction videos of his music. Thanks for featuring his music and sharing your reaction.
Michael - I have been listening to Pat for nearly 40 years now, and he continually surprises and brings the unexpected. The album this was from, We Live Here, was unlike all the ones before, then next one Quartet was a left turn, and the subsequent, Imaginary Day, was 180 degrees from that - all were continually jazz but not limited to it.
To my ears, no one plays or composes with the depth of Metheny. I think this is a rabbit hole you'll enjoy. But note that if you do reactions to his material released on ECM, they'll be blocked, but don't let that prevent you from going there on your own time - the albums As Falls Wichita..., Travels, and First Circle are masterpieces (First Circle is my absolute favorite tune of all time).
For items that may not get blocked, I recommend the following Pat tunes: Minuano (six eight) (ua-cam.com/video/__N8fMTZa-s/v-deo.html), Tromso (ua-cam.com/video/OiglgPgA__k/v-deo.html), The Gathering Sky (ua-cam.com/video/HKMxpE-kZqg/v-deo.html), and finally Mastema (ua-cam.com/video/uFBB16x7NDM/v-deo.html).
Enjoy the journey!
Your next Pat Metheny reaction should be 'It's for You.'
How about 'YOU' from the Speaking of Now record?
Man, if you're getting into the Pat Metheny Group, i highly suggest the following tunes: 'The First Circle' (off the record w/ the same title), 'Minuano (Six Eight)', 'Third Wind' (the first from the album 'Still Life Talking' and the latter from the DVD 'More Travels'), 'Are You Going With Me'? (from the album 'Off Ramp). Not super different from this tune here, maybe a bit more into the Jazz/World/Fusion genre, but really great melodic, harmonically and rhythmically sophisticated songs.
Thank you for the info, I will definitely dig in!!!
To add to that list, off of Travels, “Song for Bilbao.”
@@DramaSydETV Pat Metheny Group (PMG) is another deep rabbit hole. Yes to all of the songs @Tee Lu Rizzo suggested. I was able to see PMG live several times and it was incredible every time. I can see by your reaction to this one - you "get it". Welcome to the club!
@@gasaholic47 The title track Travels is a gem.
Great choices! These are the ones to check out for sure! Though I'd replace the Offramp version of Are You Going With Me with the one from the Travels live album or the More Travels video. Both of those have more energy and better solos, IMHO.
Pat is an outstanding guitarist and composer. I also loved his work on Joni Mitchell's live Shadows And Light album which was a great band with Jaco on bass.
The face you made when he entered his solo. I felt that when I saw him live. Nothing quite like it in music.Thank you for reacting. Great work sir!
Saw Pat Metheny in July 1981 at Mann Music Center in Philly......one of the best shows I've ever witnessed!!!! Thank you much for this!!!!!
FARMERS TRUST and
IT'S FOR YOU! ....both from the Fandango Soundtrack
I try to suggest to people to listen to the CD version of this song - on a clear night without lights - and just look up and see where PMG takes you
Love it, now do Pat's First Circle
april 27,,my birthday ;) i have listened to Mr Metheny since 1977 and would put him in my top 6 guitarists hendrix, duane allman, jeff beck, stevie ray, john Mclaughlin,Metheny...great to see you react to his genius...love your channel,Kent in Ohio...p.s. listen to "April Joy" from the album pat metheny group..is is a masterpiece
This is off-world conscious-altering...meditative like music with a -groove-. Great work. Thank you.
I haven't heard PMG in forever! Oh, the memories you stirred... THANK YOU!!! 💖
Thanks for listening
Been listening to Pat for 40 years ,Always smooth and a great groove. simply put one of the best.
Great reaction to PMG!!!! I was fortunate to have been able to see the Pat Metheny Group live four times back in the day. The musicianship of the band, Pat, the great Lyle Mays, Steve Rodby, Paul Wertico on drums and later Antonio Sanchez, was unbelievable.
One of smooth jazz's finer stars.....for decades. Nobody ever reacts to this type of music, which has been a mainstay of my listening past - especially when I just want to chill. If you want to explore this genre a little more, try these:
Edison West - "Child's Play" - ua-cam.com/video/Q3QA0K5Oiqo/v-deo.html
Dotsero - "When We're Together" - ua-cam.com/video/VQuzSnXOSVw/v-deo.html
The Rippingtons - "Caribbean Breeze" - ua-cam.com/video/FQxRkjl4ePs/v-deo.html
Nils - "Pacific Coast Highway" - ua-cam.com/video/xZAoYz4IkAM/v-deo.html
Fourplay - "101 Eastbound" - ua-cam.com/video/Wz2fMWLxpbk/v-deo.html
React if you wish (I'd love to hear your feelings), or just sit back and enjoy.
Minuano (Six Eight) is the next PM tune you should check. It may be his most famous song and it's awesome. ua-cam.com/video/__N8fMTZa-s/v-deo.html Play i t loud in the headphones. You'll dig.
One of my favourite tunes, thank you for reacting to it.
Loved the reaction video. To the End of the World is one of my favorite songs, and I knew Pat was going to get you at 7:44. Your reaction didn't disappoint. Looking forward to more Metheny reactions from you.
Lyle will be tremendously missed ! One of the great jazz keyboard artist of our generation. You will enjoy your Pat Metheny journey I guarantee it! 😀
I love Pat. I saw the Pat Metheny Group at the Fox in Atlanta and at the Alabama Theater in Birmingham, and I've seen Pat on his Orchestrion tour in Grand Prairie, TX.
And by the way, this is a GREAT changing of the guard.
gorgeous music...
Thank you for your diversity in music and bringing the magic of music into these dark days. You always keep it real, and understand that music is medicine for the soul. It's a great thing when you find a channel where the reactions, and the voice behind them project views and insights of a healer and never a hater.
Always an experience, even more than once, especially live. So glad to hear you say you want more!
I first heard this group in the 80's on the weather channel
Amazing ear candy! Thanks for sharing!
Just saw your reaction to Pat Matheny. Man,thank you very much for doing jazz. I think one of the best groups ever.
Looking forward to more.
Suggestions:
BO Ba Be Da by Herbie Hancock
East River Drive by Stanley Clark.
7:45 Me everytime hearing Pat rips a solo
Oh my DramaSyde, now this is kick back, stress reducing with a glass of wine by your side music. Beautiful. Thanks for this now and in the future.
This was awesome, I've heard a bunch of Pat's audio but never seen them deliver it. Very cool! Thank you
PMG audio is one thing, but live (or on video) is a whole other world. Track down the We Live Here, Imaginary Day, Speaking of Now, and The Way Up DVDs. No brainers - !
Nice smooth vibe...
HOW.....do you make an electronic guitar sound like a TRUMPET@?😃
good choice
Another side note, I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to do more Pink FLoyd and Led Zeppelin for two reasons. 1)You owe it to your Mind and Soul and 2) Guaranteed to watch your Channel BLOW UP....!! If you want an EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER, then you MUST listen to "Dark Side of the Moon' in its entirety. You can edit it in three or four parts. Make sure you have the lyrics closeby. Peace young Brother. Enjoy your Channel...
7:53 - 8:06 ?!
