  • We are demonstrating some great triangle solo drills. These drills help us build our core strength and practice getting our hips up high with momentum for hitting those triangle chokes and arm bars.
    - We start off in a sitting position with our knees bent, rolling back so that our knees are above our head, getting our hips off the ground. Come down, and repeat.
    - Next, we follow the same rolling back motion, extending our feet up towards the ceiling as our hips come off the ground. We don’t want our feet to go past our nose. At the start, we can also use our elbows on the floor to assist with balance.
    - Once we are comfortable with this, we can stop using our elbows for balance, keeping them tucked in with our hands centered at our chest.
    - The next part of the exercise is to begin turning. Every time we go up, we turn either 45 or 90 degrees, using our upward motion to generate the turn. Practice both left and right turns.
    - Now, we are going to add the triangle. We come up and at the top, we bite down with one leg, folding it and placing it behind the knee of the other leg, and then come back down.
    - When turning, the leg that bites down and tucks under to be pointing in the direction of the turn. If we go up and bite down with the right leg, we need to be turning to the left.
And those are our solo drills for getting better triangle chokes and arm bars. If you are interested in learning more techniques from us, subscribe to our channel or come along to one of our live in-person classes in Grafton, Wisconsin.
