  • Trevin Wax and Christopher Watkin discuss the distinctiveness of the Christian church as a counter-cultural community, emphasizing its foundation on love and unity as opposed to political or corporate characteristics. They explore the challenges of maintaining this distinctiveness in a modern context while ensuring the church remains impactful and gospel-centered. Their conversation also touches on how these counter-cultural characteristics can foster a deeper sense of community within the church.

Important and helpful. In fact, this is wonderful and talking about something too important for any of us to ignore, especially to our tendency to use secularism as a country for sectarian ends, also in the context of our religion. Grateful for a video about this so specific. Again, not to in anyway to approve critical theory which is both preying on sympathies and retaining plausibly only because we as sheep want to trust those who come in God's name and say is on behalf of the church. I don't want to in any way undermine the fact that these are genuine conversations about a topic it's impossible to underrate the value of, Christian unity. It's something very dear to my heart as with everyone of us who name the Lord Jesus Christ in faith, and yet I think also important to understand while anyone can discuss how important the topic is with hope to better understand, those with a more immediate concern and understanding of the atonement than focus predominantly on social issues are most qualified for leading us to a better understanding. And yet, my comments are not about the topic and the fact this is a genuine conversation about genuinely seeking it, but of the foundations for not just the how but the what and thinking how easy ideological conversations reduce the what to the how. The content of our basis for unity is not so arbitrary in its achievement as to cater to our society's (global or otherwise) very popular secular value for ideologically driven rationalism. The willingness to reduce human people to their rational ability and their ideas. Conversations like this are crucial in ways too many underappreciate, but helpful also to remember the way in a hundred years we've gone from no coherent theology of culture in many of our churches to saying the only faithful one is to obsess about social analysis. There are parts foundational to critical theory that make it theologically impossible, it's important not to gloss over that fact. And a real cost to pretending it doesn't. God is also honored when it's something too important to remain neutral about, when we can admit it cleaving to our unity in him. We can lovingly disagree, admitting it's an impossible standard to expect any of us knows in an unlimited amount, and might be capable to pretend otherwise by focusing on the ways we disagree. Unfortunate that often this is hidden by focusing on agreement to the ends of being endlessly critical, as if even a possibility for our knowledge. That this was not deemed necessary to either the rule of the church, or the humanity of those under it, and is far more often than popularity admits a crushing burden of overcomplexity for ordinary, normal Christians. That in such a circumstance God is glorified more by the willingness to disagree awaiting agreement in a not so sectarian philosophy however at large, but in our unity established under the rule of the church set by the authority of God's Word. There is no reason we might think the unity we/they have on offer ideologically is better than the one they enjoy in Christ, in their more theologically driven context. Even if that disagreement is with a person who by natural sensibility, we might otherwise really like to have tea!

The only person and one true God that makes the church counter cultural is are Faith in our Messiah Jesus! Most of the church member are conservative looing or moderate or liberal. Which looks like society. Jesus gets all the Glory. You want to be counter cultural its not what you look like; it's the Gospel you put forth that makes you counter cultural . The Lord Jesus Gospel. And the Holy Spirits work in your life. All Glory be to God the Father, God the Son Jesus, And God the Holy Spirit. 1 God 3 distinct persons.
