“The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.” Proverbs 14:15 ESV If you aim at nothing you will hit it every time. Planning is a Biblical principle, the key is to listen and adjust when the Lord speaks.
Those adjustments can be major, it’s why it’s hard to plan especially after 30yrs of doing what you planned and one day it goes out the window. I guess that’s life… many people have to conjure up the energy to change their plan or way of life.
Not one born again soul will ever love God fully. Flesh and sin will always be a veil over the mind. But praise God he knows we are weak. Once Christ comes and we are transformed in the twinkli g of an eye we will be fully able to see him and love him without sin
I absolutely respect and adore Brother John for his devotion to the LORD. My stance is this on calvinism, methodists, and Lutherans: All I know as a man after God is that Christ died and rose just as brother Paul wrote. I know no other way to live, breathe, eat, or be, other than Christ crucified for my sins. Oh so merciful and mighty is our LOVELY KING. He is HOLY. I know JESUS IS MY LIFE LINE. MY HOPE RESTORED. MY DOOR OPEN. He is my JUSTIFICATION. HE IS MY SOUL. I can't move without him. All I KNOW IS JESUS. NO OTHER NAME BUT JESUS!
We have 6 days to use for work. God made the Sabbath for man, wherein we are allowed and encouraged to putz around and rest from our work, literally with God's blessings.
Mr. Piper, I was a member of your church at Bethlehem Baptist Church. I am not of any one of importance but I would like you to consider speaking in some forum to Jordan Peterson. He is one of the leading thinkers of this generation and whether you like him or not is worthy of your time and attention. I think you would actually have a lot to learn from each other. Not meaning that he would change you but he is brilliant and you are as well. I think having you both in the room at the same time would be electric. Because you both have a great deal to share that would be beneficial to all of us.
This conversation would turn humanistic and all about psychology. All good earthly things, but completely lacking the point of the centricity of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ. In fact modern psychology is anti-christian by design. It tells you that the cure for your problems comes from inside of you. When the Bible tells you that your big problem is sin and only Christ can fix it. Peterson is a great modern thinker, but I think Psychology and Christianism should not mix.
21:49 I can relate to this point about finding your calling through serving in a local church. I work in the media today and it was in my local church i discovered my gift for talking.

Totally love John Piper. He's one of the solid ones. The story he told by John newton was so greatkk. It's so inspiring. I hope to think of it remember it often. Suppose a man was going to New York to take possession of a large estate, and his carriage should break down a mile before he got to the city, which obliged him to walk the rest of the way; what a fool we should think him, if we saw him ringing his hands, and blubbering out all the remaining mile, “My carriage is broken! My carriage is broken!”
Thank you Pastor John P. This is the love of God for you John P. 1 John 5: 3-5 ! So Command those who are Rich. In this present World ! 1 Timothy 6: 17-21 To the Glory of God, in Christ Jesus Name Amen. My Brother in Christ. Amen . Love Your Friend Eddy .
Awesome 🎉🎉🎉 This is Truth. Surrendering to the Holy Spirit and not fighting whatever I am put through. That's the Path. American -christianity is about getting from God, not giving up everything to be One with Him. SO THANKFUL to be pulled from error. There's still a purpose for me 😊
John is lucky that things worked out for him. I read his book "Don't Waste Your Life" around 2005-2006, quit my job and went to a third world country. Went to a Bible college after recommendation from my pastor (The bible college had rule not have romantic relationship) manage to graduate after that I joined a small fellowship, was trying to get married, many rejections, the church was also struggling. I went into deep depression despaired of my life. Since, it was India I took a vocation of an Engineer...even today I feel the pain of really wasting my life.
John Piper was in Medical School so he could meet Noelle! Yea! I finally agree with John Piper! I have been his enemy forever. But I agree with him Here. Fathers Will Be Done! Let Go! Just Be! ToDay! God Provides..Totally! We learn this in Job too! 😊❤
The sovereignty of God was one of the eye opening things the Lord Jesus revealed to me. I can look back at my life and see when I was borderline atheist, helping with the worship team in prison for a 20 yr sentence for crimes I committed when I was 16, that He was working and I couldn't see it. He than led me to an old country church where the pastor had been praying about 2 services as the services were growing and had at least 1 time where people couldn't stay because there wasn't anymore room. He had been praying and hoping for a more contemporary worship style. I told him when asked ...this is all I know... being i had helped for the last 5 yrs in prison not knowing Jesus was working for His glory. My salvation, my family, this life has all been His plan. Look at the book of Esther. Gods sovereignty all over it.
We can choose to obey the saviour, righteousness! The law! Not offend others. To learn in trust from saviour! To accept his grace! To live in his forgiveness and love!
I went to Pr. John's seminary, and I appreciate much of what he says. That said, I do think there's a missing emphasis young people need to consider. Around the 13:40 mark, I think, he mentions the American dream being an unholy ambition, with a dichotomy to holy ambitiion in Romans 15 in making your life about getting the Gospel to where Christ hasn't been named? But couldn't a holy ambition be to live a quiet and dignified Christ-exalting and generationally discipling life that ends up in the suburbs with you, your household, and an inheritance saved up for your great grandkids? Proverbs 13:22 comes to mind, along with 1 Timothy 2:2. Seems that there are more than cross cultural holy ambitions.
If you don't love money, hoard, and are generous, and are not turned inward, I suppose you can live a more conventional life. But I don't think we should be fixated on the here and now and perfect food, perfect houses, perfect clothes, perfect educations, etc. You know, manicured, self-absorbed lives.
Absolutely, and this is my ultimate ambition, but we have to be willing to have and work toward a goal and then "be able to walk away easily when the call comes," if God has better ideas. The only reason a good ZGod would ask something different of us than this good idea is if He has something better than that.
Calvinism creates the mystery! Very well said. Regarding not choosing anything... 1 Timothy 3:1 KJV - This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. Joshua 24:15 KJV - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
I absolutely feel the same way as you. I had different plans from God . Then when I surrendered it to him and ask God for clear signs and wonders . He absolutely did . He knows what is best for us. Amen . Blessings
9:09 according to Piper's introduction, there's no point in thinking. Apparently, God even predetermined someone to have his legs crossed 10 million years ago.
I love listening to John. He has so much passion, so my expression. He’s such a stark contrast to the interviewer seemed like an odd dynamic. Nevertheless worth a listen since it’s mostly John!
I’d like to make an important point here…..God brings your spouse when you serve Him. You don’t search for your spouse., please see this comment and make sure it is known and shared widely. Can I get an Amen ?
God will decide that some Lady/fella will need you for marriage . God will form them and prepare them for marriage. God will lead you to your future husband/wife . And God will determine your marriage with your future spouse . Amen . Blessings.
You choose to move forward to believe and journey with Jesus! He is straight away to clarify his being! We can choose to ask for forgiveness! To really accept Christ in rejoice and receive! Endeavours!
Why You Should Be Part of a Local Church? 1. You'll find out what your gifts and calling are by embedding yourself in a local church and using whatever gifts you can to serve other people. 2. You will find out who you are in relation to other people. 3. You'll probably find your spouse at Church or a church-related thing.
You were created to be God's temple on earth in these last days indwelled by the third person of God's trinity. Gifted with the irrevocable ability to choose which makes you responsible for all you do and say. That responsibility will enable God's presence to be displayed to all of Humanity.
I was wondering about the route I took. Was it all in God's will or was some of it God will turn/use my mistakes for good? Or were all my mistakes and learning in His will anyway?
@HearGodsWord The answer to that question is The word of God. There might be a couple verses that Calvinist use to make their arguments, but there are also so many others that contradict.
I think that Mr Pipers explanation of why not if he could go back in time and just remain single all his life rambling and off point and doesn’t give a good reason for himself. This seems so typical of many modern pastors trying to pressure people who want to be married into thinking the single life will be so much better. I personally know that growing old single can be extremely difficult but that is something they probably can not empathize with being married.
I've read the comments here, and most are saying and singing praise to John Piper and calvinism. So tell me this, what is the point of praying and asking God to heal or to bring John Piper's son to repentance if you all support what John Piper says here. If God preordained everything like is said in this video, that means that no prayer or wishful thinking is going to help. It is all very logical. Just think about it and dont just blindly follow people.
God preordains your prayer and then answers. We pray because God controls all things (including the prayer). If God doesn't have control of all things then there would be no point praying. For how could he answer?
There seems to be misunderstanding or miss use of the word "preordained". definition of preordained on google is "(of an outcome or course of action) decided or determined beforehand; predestined." What you and Piper are saying then is that "God controls everything" so if I get sick that means God has preordained for me to get sick on this specific day with this specific sickness. And then, you are also saying that God preordained for me to pray. There are a few outcomes to prayer, either our prayer gets answered or not. So lets say God has pre ordained for me to get sick, and he preordained for me to pray for healing and then he preordained if I will get healed or not. how does any of this not sound like pre-programming. Where do you see freewill in this scenario? This is completely opposite of what Bible teaches How can a prayer be from the heart if it was pre-programmed in you to pray. if that was the case that means that all our actions are just a combination or bunch of preordained (preprogrammed) things and we are nothing but robots walking this earth to execute someone's "God's" plan. That is not what the Bible teaches.
Hi @mmtenyakov.. I was just about to listen to Piper and saw your message on top (despite the fact that it was posted 3w ago). I am only a very simple Christian with no special education of theology and I used to wrestle with all that you posted here. At times, God answers most of those hard core questions but I think it is impossible for us, while we still live in this temporary body with constant distractions due to our sinful flesh & so super limited mind, to be able to get all answers we need/want. As Paul says, we can’t see all clearly now but we will when we see our Lord face to face. Through finding the right answers to those questions you’re wrestling with, your faith is being built. Keep reading your Bible and beg God to give His revelations to His living Word. It is impossible to answer your questions through this short chat, as you go down right to the very fundamental aspects of what faith is, who God is & how HE works, who we are and why we are how we are today, who Satan is and how he works, and so forth. One undeniably key principle is, God only plans for all the goods but allows certain bad things happen to produce goodness out of them, for our benefits. (I believe GOD interferes a lot more than we know, HE protects us from bad things so much more than allows it to happen to us🙏. We just do not know cuz our knowledge is super limited). While Satan always does only harm to us , as he is the murderer, father of all lies and destroyer, although often wraps & presents them ‘looking & feeling good’. All disasters, diseases, all kinds of wickedness and ultimately death itself are due to sins that have entered the world ever since Adam & Eve chose to disobey God and gave themselves fallen in to Satan’s temptation. Why do we pray? Because GOD works through our prayers to build our faith. We pray not for God’s benefit but ours. Whatever we do we can’t give GOD benefit. HE is GOD and He doesn’t need anything from us. HE wants us to love HIM back though.. simply because HE loves us and HE Himself is love. If you will, please listen to sermons/ Q&A about why & how to pray, how God works , of John MacArthur, RC. Sproul, Paul Washer.. may you open your heart to His teachings. Our ultimate Teacher is Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is who helps us to understand. GOD preordains doesn’t mean GOD play us like robots, HE works through our free wills to receive His salvation and we need to respond with our wholehearted-will in order to be worthy of being His disciples. GOD gives us free will and therefore HE wants and will let us use it. That’s exactly the reason why only so small percentage of all men He created will enter the Kingdom of GOD and live eternally with HIM , cuz the much bigger percentage chose and will choose to reject & deny HIM and consequently will live their eternal life in hell. At the end they will get what they wanted on earth , i.e being totally out of His presence but that would be the ultimate indescribable suffering to them. GOD wants to save all mankind but HE , as devastatingly heartbreaking as it is for Him to see HIS loved creation gone astray, HE won’t force those who keep on rejecting & choose to deny HIS ultimate love & perfect grace & mercy… God bless you, may you willingly be led and open your heart to listen to His answers. HE will attend you and make Himself being found if you sincerely are craving for HIM 😇🙏❤️🔥
I find married pastors' comments on true Christian singleness hard to hear. I often shut off the podcast/video, which is what I did with this video. They speak of it as if it is so easy, even in the anti-Christian world we live in. How can they express so easily what Christian singleness is like when they married in their early-to-mid 20s (in a very different era for this nation), have a good marriage despite challenges, and have children and grandchildren? They have no concept of what it is like, especially for women who want children and a male leader in the home who provides a covering. I've lost track of the number of exceptional, adult Christian women I know who are unmarried and weary of all the responsibilities they carry. He discusses the single, chaste Christian life with casual ease as if he has actually experienced it. He has not. I am waiting for single male pastors, 30+ to start speaking on this topic. As much as I respect John Piper, his comments speak of a severe lack of understanding and, dare I say, empathy.
Sir, I have a few disagreements with you on certain subjects but overall i really enjoyed the discussion. It resonates with my own life experiences. Please tell me how can I buy your book?
23:00 Ps Piper talks about finding a spouse, most likely at Church, what I can’t work out is the Apostle Paul, Christ and even Timothy and Peter (perhaps) forsake having a spouse for the sake of the Gospel, how else could the Apostle Paul do what he did if he was instead house bound with responsibilities?
..but what about those who are not married? Doesn't the Bible say those who are married will b more preoccupied about pleasing their spouse? ..nd doesn't it say that the relationship between Christ and the church is MORE than mariage between man nd a woman?... Those adjustments can be major, it’s why it’s hard to plan especially after 30yrs of doing what you planned and one day it goes out the window. I guess that’s life… many people have to conjure up the energy to change their plan or way of life.
The Absolute, Biblical Truth of the Lord's Sovereignty MUST BE the foundational teaching in the Church! 🇺🇸✝️🇺🇸
Listening to Pastor Piper with his beautiful hoary head (Proverbs 16:31) is such a privilege. His faithful godliness brings me such hope!
I thank God for you Pastor John.May the Lord bless you more.
We have 6 days to use for work. God made the Sabbath for man, wherein we are allowed and encouraged to putz around and rest from our work, literally with God's blessings.
I need this. Thank you Jesus for your love and grace. 🥹
This man has taught me so much... I'm incredibly grateful for his life and ministry.
Just listened to this, thanks Pastor John. I love your bible application.
May you live long to preserve the sole teaching of the Bible.. shalom
What a revelation Pastor John Piper! This has answered a question in mind for many years. God bless you!
I love John Piper and Paul Washer. Thank You Jesus.
I wonder why they're never together... it would be nice to witness them interacting
So grateful for John Piper!
@@_sonicfiveAmen! Our hope is found in Christ alone.
21:49 I can relate to this point about finding your calling through serving in a local church. I work in the media today and it was in my local church i discovered my gift for talking.
Thank you Pastor John P.

Good. Read your Bible, but stop listening to "Calvinists"
@SheepDog1974 not listening to people like you will be helpful for them!
C'MOOONN!!! THIS IS SO POWERFUL!!!!
What a powerful session - Glory to God! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you so much this was incredible and I can see the planning behind this. God sees you and I pray he blesses you.
Really grateful for this conversation. thank You Jesus
God with Jesus and Gods will and plan is amazing.
Woow. So blessed!!!
Priceless convo. Love the wisdom & guidance of Dr Piper
Love your sermons John Piper 💖✊💯🕊😇✝️
Thank you, Granger Smith, for introducing us to John Piper!!! LiveLikeRiv 🚘

Awesome 🎉🎉🎉
This is Truth.
Great message! Thank you John for your godly wisdom..
Just found a “field guide pocket planner for pastors” Every aspiring minister should have one. Excellent talk. Learned so much.
John Piper was in Medical School so he could meet Noelle! Yea! I finally agree with John Piper! I have been his enemy forever. But I agree with him Here. Fathers Will Be Done! Let Go! Just Be! ToDay! God Provides..Totally! We learn this in Job too! 😊❤
wow! thank you for sharing
Amen brother. Ambition for Elohim
I know who John Piper is. All the love from Nigeria 🇳🇬
So glad I came across this video! So much wisdom🙏🏾
Oh, why do I just want to cry while watching this?!
Important preaching on how to pray. Most professing Christians don't know this.
Forever indebted to you, Pastor John!
I am not praising man here, so know my intention... But the commands from God through his obedient child, is wondrous!!!!
Powerful words, thank you brother John.
Very deep teaching indeed. Praise & thank God for sending us sound doctrine teachers
love Pastor John
We can choose to obey the saviour, righteousness! The law! Not offend others. To learn in trust from saviour! To accept his grace! To live in his forgiveness and love!
A beautiful, wonderful, glorious Q+A. Thanks be to God for John Piper
That was a great speech. Very impactful
So inspired by this!
What a wonderful and spirit-led discussion. Enjoyed this, God spoke through you to me. Thank you Jesus
I did not pursue the American Dream. Atleast that was my idea. Looking at my siblings and peers they have far better life...
Nothing there which will be a mystery to Calvinists 😂
absolutely correct. I planned to live in France and ended up living in England
I absolutely feel the same way as you. I had different plans from God . Then when I surrendered it to him and ask God for clear signs and wonders . He absolutely did . He knows what is best for us. Amen . Blessings
4:53 reminds me of something I was taught…. 1) Who’s your master? 2) Who’s your mate? 3) What’s your mission? The 3 biggest decisions of your life.
Seems thru the grace of God and support of his bride he has mastered his mission. Let's hope so 🌏🕊
Wow , that's amazing words worth thinking , and rethink my life goals and principles
J.Piper feels like finally knowing someone like me.
So transparent ❤
We can choose to turn away from evil!
I’d like to make an important point here…..God brings your spouse when you serve Him. You don’t search for your spouse., please see this comment and make sure it is known and shared widely. Can I get an Amen ?
Amen from michigan
God will decide that some Lady/fella will need you for marriage .
God will form them and prepare them for marriage.
God will lead you to your future husband/wife .
And God will determine your marriage with your future spouse . Amen .

Amen
What do you base this assumption on?
You choose to move forward to believe and journey with Jesus! He is straight away to clarify his being! We can choose to ask for forgiveness! To really accept Christ in rejoice and receive! Endeavours!
"if you think you know God's wil for your life, you probably dont!" WOW!
I gotta meet John man I live in MN ...I believe we live in the same area too ....
love John Piper
Look at the posture of the young man sitting infront of a man with gray hair!
Wonderful
Yo that's my pastor!
We can choose to pray!
You were created to be God's temple on earth in these last days indwelled by the third person of God's trinity. Gifted with the irrevocable ability to choose which makes you responsible for all you do and say. That responsibility will enable God's presence to be displayed to all of Humanity.
35:03 That Newton's story and 1 corinthians 3:22 will probably change everything in your life.
I was wondering about the route I took. Was it all in God's will or was some of it God will turn/use my mistakes for good? Or were all my mistakes and learning in His will anyway?
It’s not about being Calvinist, Arminian, or any other thing. It’s about being in an intimate relationship with Jesus.
So false doctrines don't matter??
@HearGodsWord Who determines what is false doctrine?
@@Melissamiller1990 not you, apparently.
@HearGodsWord The answer to that question is The word of God. There might be a couple verses that Calvinist use to make their arguments, but there are also so many others that contradict.
@@Melissamiller1990 so, doctrine does matter then!
I think that Mr Pipers explanation of why not if he could go back in time and just remain single all his life rambling and off point and doesn’t give a good reason for himself. This seems so typical of many modern pastors trying to pressure people who want to be married into thinking the single life will be so much better. I personally know that growing old single can be extremely difficult but that is something they probably can not empathize with being married.
so good
This was powerful.
There seems to be misunderstanding or miss use of the word "preordained". definition of preordained on google is "(of an outcome or course of action) decided or determined beforehand; predestined."
What you and Piper are saying then is that "God controls everything" so if I get sick that means God has preordained for me to get sick on this specific day with this specific sickness. This is completely opposite of what Bible teaches
How can a prayer be from the heart if it was pre-programmed in you to pray. if that was the case that means that all our actions are just a combination or bunch of preordained (preprogrammed) things and we are nothing but robots walking this earth to execute someone's "God's" plan.
GOD wants to save all mankind but HE , as devastatingly heartbreaking as it is for Him to see HIS loved creation gone astray, HE won’t force those who keep on rejecting & choose to deny HIS ultimate love & perfect grace & mercy…
God bless you, may you willingly be led and open your heart to listen to His answers.
HE will attend you and make Himself being found if you sincerely are craving for HIM 😇🙏❤️🔥
That's a really poor misunderstanding
I agree with you!!!!
Paul took on other responsibilities. It’s just a different calling
They never forsook you to find a spouse. Read your Bible.
67 years old..wanting to finish my bachelor's in pastoral ministry...$, energy and time fears...
Wednesday sermon tonight, the message was on Joshua and Caleb.
Things that keep us from wholly walking with God: circumstances, people, things, worry.
..but what about those who are not married? Doesn't the Bible say those who are married will b more preoccupied about pleasing their spouse? ..nd doesn't it say that the relationship between Christ and the church is MORE than mariage between man nd a woman?... Anyway just saying, because it can't all be about marriage, what about those are not married?.. thanks Desiring God for your ministry, very much appreciate it even though I believe in free choice under God sovereignety and don't know much about Calvinism I can see elements of it in Roman 8 :30?, I love this verse ...I have learnt much from Pastor John too, Nd love this quote " God is more glorified in us when are most satisfied in Him" 😊..thank you
Sorry, I hope it's ok to say.. once again thank you very much for everything you do 😊
