Speaking of 2017, the 2017 Wisconsin badgers were 1 quarter away from an undefeated season and cfp appearance, they also beat Miami in the orange bowl that year
As a Uga fan, I hate them for losing that. Bama got bullied by Auburn then was rewarded with a bye week and a cfb playoff appearance. And no, Im not saying Bama shouldn't have made it. Its just shity that they did
I have always said that if the 2017 Penn State football team didn’t lose one of their two games that they lost, I’m pretty sure they would have made the playoffs.
Even if they beat Michigan State they finish 2nd instead of 3rd in the East. They don’t get the 4 spot over Alabama. If they beat Ohio State, they likely beat Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship and get in.
@@Amateurloreethey had two losses and no conference championship, their best win was Northwestern who wasn’t even in the top 15 they barely even deserved to be in the top 10

2017 Wisconsin Badgers man. One touchdown away from a playoff spot they went undefeated in the regular season. Beat the mentioned Hurricanes in the Orange bowl, put em in part three.
It’s sad how close so many B1G teams have been to the playoffs/national championship game.. only to stumble in the last game of the season or the conference championship game. As an Ohio State fan.. I naturally don’t enjoy losing but if we’re going to lose a game.. it feels better when that team goes on to finish with a great year and represents the B1G well.
2014 Arizona State just was number 6 in the first ever CFP ranking, after beating #9 ND at home. All they had to do was not shit the bed against both Oregon St & Arizona (both on the road)…
The creation of the unnecessary Big 12 championship game cost them. Cincinnati got in because of that. Or they would have been in if Georgia did what they did to Bama in the National Championship that year

That auburn team, when it’s all said and done, played one of the craziest, hardiest schedules ever and it’s never talked about Georgia TWICE, Alabama, Clemson, A decent LSU, and the best G5 team in a long time. Respect
2021 Oklahoma for the next one. Started like 7-0 and had QB drama with Caleb and Rattler. Rollercoaster of a season that saw everything come apart the last 3 weeks and concluded with our head coach bailing.
People always talk about Auburn being depleted in the 2017 SECCG. That’s what happened under Malzahn the whole time. AUBURN DIDN’T HAVE DEPTH to replace production.
Might be off topic, but not at the same time. I'm old to remember hurricane Katrina. Me and my family felt bad for New Orleans, but then hurricane Rita hit our house, towards Lafayette. Florida and Louisiana people relate a lot when it comes to the months of August and September
David Shaw ran the Stanford program into the ground, he had all the recruits and prestige from the Harbaugh era, had a couple good seasons, and then completely fell off. Rose bowl against MSU was the most clear example of how bad a coach he was.
I love these videos, can you just make this a series and do a part 3? Some other teams are 2021 Oklahoma State, 2014 TCU (should have made it), 2016 penn state (should have made it), 2019 Minnesota, 2023 Florida state (lmao), 2020 Texas A&M and 2017 Wisconsin
2014 TCU shouldn’t have made it btw. If that’s your mentality, Baylor should be in because of head to head. 2016 Penn State? Definitely not. Don’t get blown out by 1 team and don’t lose to an unranked Pitt.
Great video, but if you make another one you seriously need to include either 2014, 2019, or 2021 Baylor in there. We were closer one loss from the playoffs in all 3 seasons.
UCF does have an argument for claiming a natty that year, however it cant be solely based on the fact that "oh we beat auburn", cause otherwise UGA could claim the same thing lol
I hate that ucf gets any piece of the 2017 championship. They had a comparatively EASY road to their bowl game compared to most P4-5 champions have to go through to get to the playoffs. Then they beat a heavily depleted and depressed Auburn and got to call themselves co national champs because they beat Auburn.. who ended the year with 4 losses, but since Auburn beat Bama, who won the real national championship that year.. they get to claim a piece of it. The reason I don’t respect it is because I think including Auburn, they only played 2 ranked teams that year and then just the overall quality of teams they faced every week was considerably lower than that of any team in a power conference and especially the conferences like the B1G and SEC. If ucf played Auburn in the regular season or in a proper playoff format.. they’d have gotten blown out as long as Auburn was reasonably healthy. And I am completely convinced they only beat Auburn because they were incredibly depleted due to injuries and people sitting out, not wanting to risk injury before the draft.. and after how the year ended for Auburn.. they just didn’t give a shit anymore. Meanwhile.. ucf.. very fresh still, healthy and very motivated to win. Basically.. the only way I would see them having even a fraction of a real claim is if they played and beat a power conference champion that got left out of the playoffs.. but they didn’t.. they beat an Auburn team that overachieved in the regular season and was depleted and “checked out” for the bowl game. Or if they had played and beat a bunch of other ranked teams that year but I don’t believe they did.. pretty sure it was only 2, maybe 3 tops I think including the bowl game.
Don’t forget the 2020 Indiana Hoosiers. Got screwed out of playing in the B1G title game due to the conference making a last minute rule change and came within a possession of beating Ohio State in Columbus for their only regular season loss. Could’ve made the playoff that year
Beginning of the video....If 10-2 Penn State isn't in this, I'm not coming back. Edit: I will not be back. That team started the conversation of more than 4 teams in the playoff.
Honestly Byu 2021 was kind of close I think if they Didn’t lose to Bosie state they had a chance even though BYU lose to Baylor also that 2021 Bayler team went to the Big 12 championship game so if BYU didn’t lose to Bosie state I think they would have had a legitimate shot at going to the playoffs
