I personally think that being able to quickly change and repair armor would be very useful, like having a pit crew in racing. You could get your fighters back into the fray easier, and you never have to worry about repairing them or sending out damaged ships. If the armors have weapons on them, you could send out more specialized craft without having to build entirely new ones from scratch. The main problems I see are cost and space. Having to stock different 2-3 or even just 2 armor sets for each craft would take up space and cost a lot of resources, and would probably only be feasible for static bases or very large capitol ships. Anyway, that's just what I think. If anyone else has any other thoughts, please share.
@@averysillyperson7391 Problem is you are better off just having 2 craft, cheaper and way less complicated, so it is really cool feat of engineering, but not really intelligent from a combat perspective, the design probably also means a good shot to the armour joint would knock the entire block off, leaving you very exposed and if the core fighter is damaged you still likely need to get into a 2nd one, or hope the design is simple enough that you can very quickly repair the parts, unless it has decent redundancy.
@@Reginald-Erasmus If you say so, i mean I don't se multiplayer, as I know it has issues or atleast use to. I don't see the advantage over just having multiple vehicles, simpler design is always better in combat and having all these interchangeable parts bring in weak spots, happy for you to prove to me otherwise, maybe with a pvp session showing the use of these.
@@Fuzedfiction The side door might not be practical for this, but if you just go in through the back loading dock you could have it all on a spinning rotor. Each armor at a 45 degree angle and moved into the bottom position for changing. Though you would have to back out to make room for rotation after taking off armor. The whole thing is going to be massive, might as well put in a repair system while your at it. :P
A thought would be to have a connector to attach the vehicle as close to exact for armoring to reduce collisions. Possibly a merge block is snapping to a merge block so the internal ship is protected and it isn't a weak point lol
It's similar to an idea I had a while ago but instead of changing armor it would be a whole ship that alone would be small and fast but it would have other parts connected that would lead to Hangar and that kind of thing and when necessary the ship would break free from these parts to make an escape
@@najlitarvan921 Yes and no because it follows the idea of connecting and disconnecting parts of the ship but the Cockpit would be hidden and protected there would be no way for it to be hit for it to detach from the ship it would have to remove everything connected around it while the survivors run to the ship the other parts stay attacking the enemy to delay him and give him time to flee
I did something similar: a modular ship. I hade the core of my ship and some moduls of wings ready for any kind of work or theat. Mining , welding , combat, etc. I allway thaut to my self : "why not do that instead of building an other ship ? " XD
always wanted to do this, but much larger scale, with a python from elite dangerous type of ship so it only has 2 sides. have two connectors on the front to make it aligned perfectly, then rotors swing the armor 90 degrees to clip the top and bottom armor on with several redundant merge blocks
Have had a similar system, but just for armour plates for the ships, some servers don't allow the repairing with projectors and it's an hassle to have your ship packing the welders for it too, so modular armour pieces was the easier solution, fast to build in bases, easy to carry by other ships, interchangeable with other ships, easily done either with pre made constructions like yours or smaller assembler ships, salvaging your friends ship components into yours was never made so easier. Building things with modularity (and salvaging) in mind is the best thing you can do if you plan on playing with more than 1 ship on fleet, merge blocks are rarely taken advantage of idk why, it not only allows you to increase your ship fairly quickly, by not having to decommission your ship while upgrading it, just build the extra area, check the measures, fit, weight and new power requirements if it has any and there you go, fast upgrading without rebuilding the entire thing or having to stop using it.
I like this idea! Get something shot up...jettison it and escape. Looking at a high-speed recon? Put on lighter armor, cameras, and more fuel. Assaulting an enemy stronghold? Pile on the armor and weapons.
Noooooo this is all Wrong! you need to be changing armor mid-flight! Whilst yelling out your transformation with a theme song in the background and then strike a pose as you yell out the name of your new machine with its name emblazoned across space!
Nah but imagine it gets super damaged and you have bombs in it, so you scuttle the armor as a diversion or like mines. Then you speed into your hangar and equip the new armor then catch them by surprise.
This armor changing system somewhat ironically also functions as stealth against NPCs. Turrets can't see you if you're fully obstructed by a neutral grid, so any time an un-powered block of armor with no powered blocks on it fully blocks the LOS on your main ship, turrets will lose track of you. Carrying neutral chunks of armor around with you can function like a low-observability coating
Sadly they patched that a little while ago, so hiding behind neutral grids does not work anymore, I was hoping to be able to make a stealth ship like that, but then found out they patched it.
you would likely shed the armor if it was completely damaged or destroyed as for the ship you would have to use a projector block and some welders to get it back to shape then re apply a armor set
Is it “practical”? Hell no.
Is it cool? HELL YES!

the nostalgia from this, you had all the ligers. it's a shame we didn't get to see panzer that often.
I was thinking about Zoids as soon as I saw the thumbnail.
I'm glad I wasn't the only person who immediately thought of Liger Zero. :D
Indeed!
exactly what I was thinking lol.
When you dont want to scratch that newly built ship
great job hope to see a hover cargo carrier (the snail looking zoid carrying all of the zoids and armor) soon!!!! :)
That's the plan, just have to figure out a good way to do it.

Its pretty neat! Assuming its based on the CAS system from Zoids?
Same color scheme here too :P (Jager, Schneider, Panzer, and Zero)
Seems like something that would be useful for commercial use on a multiplayer server.
Earth, Mars and Venus armor, feels like gumpla
Alright that's dope
Reminds me of that modular ship constructor that was made years ago.
I think LSG showcased it.

reminds me of the race scene in spy kids 3 where their bikes assemble
Wow, space Ship wardrobe
This makes me think of the show Zoids, with the Liger. Good job with it.
Very impressive!
Fun concept!
That looks amazing
so cool, I wish I had the patience and skill to learn space engineers.
Amazing
Wow. Crazy! 😆👍
very nice, well done
factually cool

Upgrade to go faster stripes in seconds.... :)
"POWER... EXTREME!!"
Cool

First idea was zoids lol
very cool, but have your heard of clang?
I use this for my larger capital ships. If I run out of ammo, I have 4 large slabs of armor to impale your behind with. Dodge this
new idea for a server unlocked

i really want see someone optimize this for a carrier
Very cool been thinking on the same lines for a while now and you have just confirmed it can be done. I'm on to it now man...... Nice work
I don’t always drop a like on random Space Engineers vids, but when I do…
Your next homework assignment is to build a functional megazord.
More practical if you could weld your self in for some kamakazi fighter action
This is rule of cool to the max I love this build man awesome.
now do it with a mecha, like the A-36
So... it's like a mecha for your ship? Groovy
Lol, nice. Kind of silly in a gimmicky way but still pretty cool!
Reminds me of when I attempted to make hulk buster suit and friday😂
Is this the Liger's armor system from Zoids? xD
Well that’s about a billion tons of FUCK YEAH.
ah yes, the Main Character's fighter
Reminds me of the Centurions cartoon...
i guess it would work if u have only like 1 ship limit?
fking iron man spaceship wtf
This. Vid is a immidate sub
Now That Is A Cool Idea
Inspired by Zoids I see lol
Reminds me of Gundam

Very cool nice idea
Idk why but it looks like legos to me.
This is dope af.
Make a carrier ship with 4-6 strikers that can come back in for quick refit or repairs
Very nice!
BOOM!
Cool
Very cool, but it feels like a chocolate kettle or glass hammer..
Nice work!
Well, someone was a Liger Zero fan. Very impressive setup.
Love it. Absolutely an amazing concept
how does the armor stay on? merger blocks?

Tell me you watched zoids without saying you watched zoids
Bro I need to do that
