Within the SciShow franchise, the TalkShow is always my favourite. I especially loved seeing Jeff Good return to the show. And then have another returning animal guest - in fact their first ever animal guest.
+remuladgryta It's nice to see how people are often doing good in the world no matter how small that good is. That's why i like watching the talk shows. Also it's great to listen/watch while doing house work/eating.
The last few years the hare population on the island that I live on has had a lot of trouble in winter since there's been very little snow. The eagles are doing great though.
+Hercados P. No, I'm like that too. Its not that I like one more persay, its more that when I'm bored I like the short videos, but on the same note I love to sit down with something to drink and watch some talk show!
+Hercados P. I love these more, too. The pattern is more... The Good Stuff or something. The things the experts have to say are so interesting. Animal Weapons has been my favorite so far too!
Hank sounded a little salty in the beginning. Lol!!!! 😂😂😂 " we talk to VERY interesting people about VERY interesting topics! only HALF of you watch" Lol😂😂😂😂 smh
I always love these SciShow Talkshow episodes! I'm a proud member of the half of the audience that loves hearing these smart people talk about the amazing things they're doing.
I LOVE THE SCI SHOW TALK SHOW. I'm always fascinated with what your expert guests have to say, I'm sorry for others who can't appreciate that, or at least Jessi and the animals coming on at the end. Thanks for these Hank!
I don't know what the people who skip SciShow Talk Show are thinking. It's one of my favourite things you guys produce every month. Look forward to it even.
I am so glad that they specified when this was recorded, but I was so confused. Cas is absolutely beautiful, and I really enjoyed this show. I loved how Dr. Good explained the changes in fur color.
I love SciShow Talk Show! I'm ridiculously dorky though, and really enjoy listening to people talk about practical applications of science, and learning about people who science for a living (yes, I'm using science as a verb). So... yeah.
Could you guys do an episode on the research going on behind the obesity crisis that we have (ie. gut microbiota, brown adipose tissue, genetic factors, etc.)? With what has been going on on social media lately, I think many people have a misunderstanding about how complex obesity really is and I think it would be beneficial to talk about. Thanks for your awesome sciencing!
Oh, Cas is so beautiful! Yep, foxes are 50% curiosity, 50% anxiety. I've met very friendly foxes (Red Fox) that have personalities like dogs, I know one that drops to the ground and demands a belly scratch, and have been given bites from super shy ones whilst trying to get them out of their crates so I could clean them, through gloves and a towel. Foxes are really quirky creatures and definitely deserve more respect than they are given, because they're only doing what they know how, like any other species, that is survive (and especially in ecosystems where they are introduced, too bad, they're part of the ecosystem now).
Wow - loved this episode - and will have another loving look at my Cas postcard I received from Animal Wonders :) - pride of place on my fridge along with photos of my dogs and nieces. Have to admit I sympathy rubbed my nose when Hank rubbed his eyes tho - strict rule of low shedding pets in my world!
I generally do not care for these longer clips (yes, I am one of THOSE people) but I actually enjoyed this one and made it all the way through to the end!
Hey Hank. Don't be upset if the talk show gets less views than your shorter videos. Those of us who are adults(or teens with an attention span longer than a squirrel's) really appreciate more in-depth information. Thanks!
I think its really interesting about Cas' malt this year, because exactly the same thing has happened to my pet rabbit, he's taken all summer to malt out just in time to put his winter coat back on.
re: changes triggered by daylight length We have raised chickens for a number of years. When we keep them in a coop and provide light, we get eggs all year. It doesn't even take much light. A fifty watt incandescent lamp kept going full time is sufficient. (It has the additional benefit of providing some warmth for the birds.) Our current crop, while they have access to a nice, sheltered coop, prefer to roost in the trees. This has greatly reduced our supply of eggs.
I only started watching SciShow Talk Show for Veritasium and Lindsey Doe. You have to overcome more inertia to start watching the talk show simply because it has more things in it and more of it is just people talking instead of just new information for you to absorb. When someone says, hey do you want to watch this 5 or whatever minute video that will teach you about relevant topic, that is much easier than hey do you want to watch a half hour show where they talk about a handful of things. The only reason why talk shows have such easy adoption on TV is because it is not a decision, it is just something that comes on while you are bored.
re: the changing fox In Alaska, the length of the day is much more variable than further south. Perhaps the reduced variability in day length is reducing the triggering of the shedding.
I absolutely adore when the animal guest and the human guest have something in common - it was great having Dr Good able to postulate on why Cass' coat was changing differently. Random thought, that may have come up before: that marble table is murder for the critters - Cass isn't the first one to slip. Any particular reason you don't fasten down a cloth cover over the table? It would give a much better purchase for claws and the like.
Ooh boy. Turned on the captions because I forgot headphones and UA-cam's auto captions are... interesting. Not horrific, but I feel like I might have to rewatch parts later.
just remember that sometimes you can get pleasantly surprised by information you wouldn't care about at first glance :) broadening your horizons and all that.
well, personally I like them a lot and think that they're a fun way end to the show while also tying in another area into the subject...but that's just me =P
ohhh - just found the whole shabang of Scishow talk on Scishow.com, now that I've completed my watching of all vlogbrothers episodes Brotherhood 2.0 to now, this is my next catch up challenge!!! :)
"and about half of our audience clicks on it, but the ones that do really have a good time!", he says to the half of the audience that clicked on the video. Lol.
Really interesting, what Dr. Jeff Good talked about. I want to know how the turning white continues to change as global warming changes the environment. I worry about the hares, can they change quickly enough to survive/not get overly predated? Do they move to colder areas to off-set the disadvantage of being coloured for a (previously) colder climate?
I'm surprised no one in the video asked or commented about how long the fox's tongue was! I don't ever remember seeing a fox (or wolf or dog, for that matter) have a tongue that long. Does his tongue hang out that far every time he pants, or was this unusual b/c he was so hot under the lights? Or is an especially long tongue a common feature of arctic foxes? I def would have asked that.
Is Cas okay with being brushed? Or is it not wise to brush him? Curious since I have a gsd that needs lots of brushing as shedding is very common. Thanks :)
Whether it be once a week, or once a month, you guys should do a long video(sort of a podcast style) that goes into great detail and sort of a educational style video. A great example of this is radiolab, Just a thought.
We don't click on the videos? I love the talk show and was just wondering why you hadn't done one in a while. Looks like it hasn't been showing up in my subscription feed.
I love it when the Talk Show has young professional nerds all sitting around trying really hard to pretend to be adults talking about Seriously Sciency Things but really they're just a bunch of tiny child geeks geeking out. XD
Within the SciShow franchise, the TalkShow is always my favourite. I especially loved seeing Jeff Good return to the show. And then have another returning animal guest - in fact their first ever animal guest.
SciShow Talk Show is by far my favourite SciShow episodes! Surprising that so few watch them.
Same! I love learning from different professionals and really getting in depth information on a topic.
+remuladgryta at least the half of us who do watch have a good time :D
+remuladgryta I would guess it's just because they're longer and some people only watch short clip-style videos.
+remuladgryta It's nice to see how people are often doing good in the world no matter how small that good is. That's why i like watching the talk shows. Also it's great to listen/watch while doing house work/eating.
Same!
The last few years the hare population on the island that I live on has had a lot of trouble in winter since there's been very little snow.
The eagles are doing great though.
Not if they eat up their food.
+Alex Dayton Well the eagles can fly some where else.
+killerbee256 the animals may keep just trying to go "somewhere else" all the time. But one day there won't be anywhere else to go.
Am I the only one more interested in these long ass talks than in the 3 minutes videos?
+Hercados P. No, I'm like that too. Its not that I like one more persay, its more that when I'm bored I like the short videos, but on the same note I love to sit down with something to drink and watch some talk show!
+Hercados P. SciShow Talk Show is my favourite, it led me to getting Animal Weapons by Douglas J Emlen as a gift!
+Jake Moellering per se
+JAWZxz thanks, I didn't know exactly how to spell it so I winged it xD
+Hercados P. I love these more, too. The pattern is more... The Good Stuff or something. The things the experts have to say are so interesting. Animal Weapons has been my favorite so far too!
Hank sounded a little salty in the beginning.
Lol!!!! 😂😂😂
" we talk to VERY interesting people about VERY interesting topics! only HALF of you watch"
Lol😂😂😂😂 smh
I always love these SciShow Talkshow episodes! I'm a proud member of the half of the audience that loves hearing these smart people talk about the amazing things they're doing.
Am I a bad person for mostly just skipping to the end and watching the animals?
+Blade Mastr jesus is not pleased, that's for sure.
Nah. I did that too. Mostly cuz I don't have time at this moment, but still
+Blade Mastr No; people love to look at animals... more than just about any other video/picture content.
+Blade Mastr You should watch the Animal Wonders channel in that case.
you're not a bad person. but I don't think it needed to be said.
the best part always is when Jessi shows up, she's soo beautiful like an ethereal princess.
+Deidara 319 (The Artist) I thought you were dead.
I thought you should be all in the kitchen making me a fucking sandwich!
+Nagato PR *Stands adjacent to +Andrew Friend, both draw their guns at the same time and shoot at nagato, pulp fiction style !*
+Nagato PR She is kind of a butterface tbh, don't hate.
Taipans you sound kind of gay, no offense.
I had a good time, Hank!
i like this jeff good guy, he seems pretty chill
I would love it if the team could circle back with the scientists they interviewed over the years. Check in on their progress and new projects!
So glad I stumbled upon these talk episodes. Can't believe I've watched SciShow for years, and didn't know.
I am so glad that they specified when this was recorded, but I was so confused.
Cas is absolutely beautiful, and I really enjoyed this show. I loved how Dr. Good explained the changes in fur color.
SciShow Talk show is my favorite! You always have such interesting guests and cool animals.
Really cool when you have a guest that talks about something related to the animal and it ties together
I find it hilarious that these don't have more views, they're great
The Talkshow is my favorite scishow subshow!
I love Jessi!! she's so gentle and caring towards all animals
I don't usually watch the talk shows, but how could I resist that cute foxy face? ☺️💕
I am part of the half the audience. I love listening to these longer form shows!!!
I love watching these but I have to set them aside to watch as I don't have time normally!
SciShow Talk Show is my favourite segment from Scishow. I think, maybe possily
Oh, Cas is so beautiful! Yep, foxes are 50% curiosity, 50% anxiety. This guest has the best bro dude voice
First time watching one of these. Great watch! Not sure why I didn't watch these before...
LOL the pun tho!
'You did a Good job.'
'Yeah it's Good.'
Ah the small things in life :-P
I'm here solely for the Arctic Fox.
I like this guy, he's good.
Dear SciShow, why is there no video about desalination of sea water on the channel? Is it too difficult to explain?
+Fukushima Jack It's on our list!
+SciShow If we're requesting videos, one on time dilation (as seen in Interstellar) would be great. ~
+FireVulpez I reccomend the channel spacetime, they have a lot of content on both special and general relativity.
Guilherme Pata Subbed, thanks ~
FireVulpez yw :3
You were right Hank, you did have something cute in the back, it's nice to see Jessi from Animalwonders!
Wow - loved this episode - and will have another loving look at my Cas postcard I received from Animal Wonders :) - pride of place on my fridge along with photos of my dogs and nieces. Have to admit I sympathy rubbed my nose when Hank rubbed his eyes tho - strict rule of low shedding pets in my world!
talk show is my fave of the Sci shows!
the Talk Shows are among my favourite SciSchow segments!!! maybe they're just not click-baity enough.
I think the promise of an Arctic Fox may prove to be "click-baity" :P
Love this show! Please tell me Cas is short for Castiel.. =D
i am the 50%! woot
I generally do not care for these longer clips (yes, I am one of THOSE people) but I actually enjoyed this one and made it all the way through to the end!
wow that was really interesting! And those hamsters are so cute! these longer talks are always my favorites :D
Yay! Cas is back on SciShow Talk Show!
At 18:28 you can see so much hair in the air! And also later on Jessi's shirt there is tons of it. I feel like sneezing just from looking at that...
re: changes triggered by daylight length
We have raised chickens for a number of years.

I thought Hank was going to be talking to Dr. Jeff Rocky Mountain Vet! This was a terrific segment, though. Scishow should have LOTS more like this.
Jessi never disappoints with the animals she brings
re: the changing fox
In Alaska, the length of the day is much more variable than further south. Perhaps the reduced variability in day length is reducing the triggering of the shedding.
Cas seemed to want to hang out near Hank. Hank must put off some really groovy vibes
Foxes are super curious about everything but also really anxious? So they are the canine version of cats?
I listen to the talk show while doing housework :)
I'm not the only one who thinks Dr. Good looks like a nice-universe version of Wesley from Daredevil, am I?
...Am i?
Apparently!
Well, I always click and I always love these videos :-)
loved the video fascinating and what a beautiful creature
Ooh boy. Turned on the captions because I forgot headphones and UA-cam's auto captions are... interesting. Not horrific, but I feel like I might have to rewatch parts later.
I always just skip to the part with Jessi and her animals.
just remember that sometimes you can get pleasantly surprised by information you wouldn't care about at first glance :)
broadening your horizons and all that.
+blackmesa232323 Well, you're missing out on cool knowledge about bunnies & hamsters, silly!
well, personally I like them a lot and think that they're a fun way end to the show while also tying in another area into the subject...but that's just me =P
good content is timeless, 20 minutes felt like 3 minutes enjoyed it!
its funny how the doctor starts to studder when pretty fox lady rolls up lol
This guy kicks ass.
the fox is like "lemme go dammit there's science everywhere!!"
I want to hug Cas and Jessi.
Am I the only one that loves these? And watch the whole videos?
I do tooooo! :)
+AndSoShePaints Yaaaay!
i love the talk show!
Epic eye roll at 18:36 ha ha!
Oh trust me its gona be a weird weather every year from this year.
ohhh - just found the whole shabang of Scishow talk on Scishow.com, now that I've completed my watching of all vlogbrothers episodes Brotherhood 2.0 to now, this is my next catch up challenge!!! :)
I love this show.
I love Dr. Good
That's a stressed little foxie. Its ironic they look so cute when they are scared.
man, this was astonishingly interesting :)
Lets be honest half the people who clicked on this is for the adorable animals
I am wondering how the fur would spin in to yarn, and how hard would it be to get my hands on it to try....
"and about half of our audience clicks on it, but the ones that do really have a good time!", he says to the half of the audience that clicked on the video. Lol.
I just had a STEM ad with hank in it, illuminati confirmed
Bunnies and dwarf hamsters are two of my favorite animals! :3
can you do a video on the cape canaveral space ship launch and why it made tht weird erie mist in the sky??
Hank's sock game strong.
Really interesting, what Dr. Jeff Good talked about. I want to know how the turning white continues to change as global warming changes the environment. #Objection!
I feel very bad for the table...
Fun fact: foxes in the deserts have similar furry mittens on their paws to protect them from hot sand
Whether it be once a week, or once a month, you guys should do a long video(sort of a podcast style) that goes into great detail and sort of a educational style video. A great example of this is radiolab, Just a thought.
Arctic foxes. The coolest foxes. Not metaphorically.
We don't click on the videos? I love the talk show and was just wondering why you hadn't done one in a while. Looks like it hasn't been showing up in my subscription feed.
I would think for Cas it would also be the angle of the light.. Montana is much further south than his natural arctic home..
Dear SciShow,
Could you explain what quantum teleportation is, and why it can or cannot be used to teleport humans?
foxes are awesome
+Caleb The Fox lol
+Narklmarf Yes, we are :D
+Narklmarf Yes, we are :D
Cas's tongue is even longer than I expected. Cutie.
Opening line. Hilarious.
They talk about weird weather but last year in where I live in Texas in winter it was 18 •f then in summer it got 115 •f
If only one out of two people who watch SciShow, watch this series, I blame Hank. And the guests. Mostly Hank.
i love how you can see the fur floating around at 18:28. also Jessi is still hot. despite the shorter hair.
Am I the only one that freaked out when they saw that Cas was back?
12:09 is when the fox comes on
Why do less people watch the talk shows: Viewer retention. Most look for short videos.
I love it when the Talk Show has young professional nerds all sitting around trying really hard to pretend to be adults talking about Seriously Sciency Things but really they're just a bunch of tiny child geeks geeking out. XD
