You can tell that animal wonders is typically a presentation for children, but still friggen cool. The talk Jessie gives is very much how you would explain things to children. I am not a child but it still helps me.
Agreed with the general feel, here - this episode was far more organic and I appreciated the insertion of ad lib discussion and branching conversation. Very enjoyable! You guys should feel free to go off-script; you have plenty of intelligent questions and things to say off the top of your heads!
i'm in love with Louey's voice... it was so soothing I had a wee nap and had to watch this again! you're awesome, don't forget it. also, that handshake wasn't weird, it was like you were about to make an unbreakable vow...
I could talk about intelligent things like the applications of camera contact lens, but all i can think is: Oh my god the frog is so freaking adorable!
I never seem to fail to find you in the comments. We so frequently manage to watch videos near enough that you don't bump into me but I bump into you. I see you in so many different channels... nice taste in videos my good sir.
I get the principle in the Stump Hank section. It's how levers work, basically. You have a great weight that can't be lifted by X strength, but use a lever, and suddenly you can.
Awesome show as par! But I wish that you guys would have talked more about the bio-mechanical subject that hank brought up, that really fascinates me & would love to learn more about it. Either way keep the shows comin'!
Hank, about the broom: it depends on relationship between the pole's and the bristle's weight. The center of mass is always in a region between the bristle and the pole's half, no matter what. But if it is closer to the bristle than to the half of the pole, the bristle side will weigh more. Nevertheless, if the bristle is light enough to make the fulcrum closer to the pole's middle, the pole side will weigh more.
I believe that would depend on whether the windows are closed. Also not just because the balloon would float away if the windows are open. With the windows closed the balloon will move forward in acceleration and backward in deceleration. This is due to the density gradient created by compressing the heavier air to the back or front of the cabin. The balloon moves to the lower pressure area due to its low density. In a crash the same forces would apply unless the windows are all open.
Hank, I know it might be difficult to do every time, but I would like to see more guests who are specialists and work in a science field. I think it would give more gravitas to the show and make it especially interesting.
I don't know much about physics or mathematics, but the broom question semed obvious to me. Of course the bristles end weighs more than the stick end -especially as most of the 'weight' is resting on the finger and so distributed evenly until cut.
I agree with you, GitS is one of my favorite animes/mangas of all time, I also think it's one of the most realistic views of cyborg technology (although I don't think it's that close but I think everything in that is very possible.)
I have a dumpy tree frog named captain asshat and this is very educational. I have not, however, seen him use his tongue to eat anything, but rather shovel insects in his mouth with hands like a gorilla.
Hank has not been stumped on much harder questions than that, and I knew this one easily. I think he just gave it to him cause the guy is cool and he didn't want to take away from him.
Aussie here. Used to see these all the time as a kid, but they seem to be harder to find these days. Not sure if that's just environmental outright, or because of the cane toads, or some other issue. I've never heard them called "Dumpy" before. We just call them tree frogs.
John Grayson i heard that frogs worldwide are facing a mass extinction due to chytrid fungus or habitat destruction, pollution and other causes. Its quite sad
I was gonna say the part opposite to the handle is heavier just because it has more surface (because it's made of lighter stuff), so there's a bunch of air underneath it that supports it. If were to suddenly take away all the air from the room, it would on that side. Just because it's "balanced" on your finger, doesn't mean the weight is equally distributed :p
Yes it is colder than his hand but not ambient temp. The frog will feel as though it is colder bc of conduction just like we do. However, I would imagine that the skin on the back of the frog would be more sensitive to air temp. My entire premise was that temp sensitivity in nerve cells is a more a function of thermal conductivity than actual temperature differences. I'm sure the gentlemen in this channel are fully aware of that.
for stump hank, I think when he said "which side is heavier" he meant it in the sense of "which side is more massive." In that case, because Torque=Force*Distance, where force is mass*gravity, the shorter side will have a greater mass, giving it a greater weight. Hank just wouldn't be able to tell by holding it.
I have a broom with a metal handle and plastic bristle casings that I think might have more mass per length on the handle side than the bristle side...
im also in love with the discussions about singularity and transhumanism, i fully recommend people that really like this subject to see a movie called "ghost in the shell", is all about that and even more phyilosophical discussions about artificial selection and the thought that one day we will be no longer humans, the human race will be fully machine, able to evolve what nature took bilhions of years to do in a few weeks if they so desire.
when you said that ray kurzweil tries to live forever, I realised how ironic that is because "kurzweilian" would translate to "kurzweilig" in German which means short-lived lol
When talking about water, buoyancy has a much larger effect and density does matter about the rate of sinking. But in air, buoyancy and air resistance can largely be negated as their effect on most macroscopic objects is small, especially in a situation like this. Either way, the weights of the objects will still be unchanged, as weight is equal to mass * gravitational force which acts equally on all mass
Weight is proportional to mass, not to density. Two objects with the same mass have the same weight (in a uniform gravitational field) regardless of their densities
When I was a kid I was always told not to hold the green tree frog for too long as it will dry out and will soon die. Now I understand why ...after all these years. lol. I used to wet the frogs when they tried coming inside on really hot days and then put out a tub of water in the shade. It was always so sad finding these frogs all dried out.
"Are you afraid of death?" He asks very calmly then smiles at the camera
You should release these as podcasts, I'd love to be able to listen to them like that.
You can tell that animal wonders is typically a presentation for children, but still friggen cool. The talk Jessie gives is very much how you would explain things to children. I am not a child but it still helps me.
"The institution of no longer being alive." I have never heard a better description of the state of being dead.
This series of show is one of my favorites to watch on UA-cam. Thanks Hank; keep it up!
Agreed with the general feel, here - this episode was far more organic and I appreciated the insertion of ad lib discussion and branching conversation. Very enjoyable! You guys should feel free to go off-script; you have plenty of intelligent questions and things to say off the top of your heads!
"You don't swallow like that?"
made me laugh so hard
i'm in love with Louey's voice... it was so soothing I had a wee nap and had to watch this again! you're awesome, don't forget it. also, that handshake wasn't weird, it was like you were about to make an unbreakable vow...
I love appearances from Jessie
Four years later and I still love it! Stump Hank is my favourite segment :)
I love seeing the featured animals because I have seen the majority of them in my backyard or just down my street just chillin
This show is amazing, one of the best things on UA-cam, honestly.
I can't get enough of sci-show talk-show!
You guys could/should send this on the radio. It's so much better than the "normal" talkshows out there.
Feature more Louey on regular episodes! Great commentary from him!
this should happen more often. I mean the animals they being to the show, it's just really enjoyable. I'M LEARNING!
Every episode Jessi makes me love her
I really enjoy the pacing of SciShow Talk Show. It's like the PBS of youtube.
I've grown up around those frogs my entire life, they're so adorable.
I love how I just finished researching and writing an essay on Ray Kurzweil.. and then I watch this video. Funny how these things work!
Love the show, you see the overall goals of our vast achievements
I can watch that lil frog for 10 hours and not get bored... I have no idea why haha
I want Jessie's job
the animal segments are always the best part.
I LOVE frogs! Stumpy is SO cute! If I were Hank, I'd never give her back haha.
I love SciShow Talk Show so much! It is great. :D
I could talk about intelligent things like the applications of camera contact lens, but all i can think is: Oh my god the frog is so freaking adorable!
Thank you for posting at two in the morning.
That was an awesome scishow talkshow! Very cool frog.
we get those frogs EVERYWHERE here, they are adorable.
Hank looks totally fascinated with the frog, even worse than almost every other animal on the scishow talk show!
I Like at like 8:18 when beard guy looks up dramatically and says "Yes." lol
Jessy needs a permanent slot on scishow, shes great!
I love this channel I always learn something new.
I never seem to fail to find you in the comments. We so frequently manage to watch videos near enough that you don't bump into me but I bump into you. I see you in so many different channels... nice taste in videos my good sir.
Jesse from Animal Wonders is the reason to watch SciShow Talk show.
HANK I GOT SO EXCITED WHEN I SAW THIS I LOVE THIS SHOW!
I get the principle in the Stump Hank section. It's how levers work, basically. You have a great weight that can't be lifted by X strength, but use a lever, and suddenly you can.

I love, how the froggy frog doesn't just hop away.
I like frogs :3
Louey Winkler, I'm in love with your tattoo!!
The guys fascination with that frog...priceless. lol
i think a conversation between emily grasile an jesse would be extraordinary thing to see on the sci show talk show.
"This frog is from Australia. Would you like to hold it?" My first reaction would be to ask if it will kill me.
Hank, about the broom: it depends on relationship between the pole's and the bristle's weight. The center of mass is always in a region between the bristle and the pole's half, no matter what. When Hank asked "Do you know who you're going to see?" I half expected a snarky "Yeah, we're going to see Jessi!"
I love this show and now dumpy tree frogs too.
I enjoy this casual show.
I LOVE DUMPY TREE FROGS!!!! :) They're just so cute!
the thumbnail photo of this video is hilarious! it looks like hank is taking a bong rip.
That frog was freaking adorable!
I have a dumpy tree frog named squishy. I was going to name it trumpy the dumpy but my friends talked me out of it
I believe that would depend on whether the windows are closed. Also not just because the balloon would float away if the windows are open. That tree frog is adorable!
I just geeked out over the frog :) stumpy is so cool! I'm such an animal nerd lol
Torque is force multiplied by distance. If you halve the distance, you have to double the force to maintain the same amount of torque.
Hank, I know it might be difficult to do every time, but I would like to see more guests who are specialists and work in a science field. I think it would give more gravitas to the show and make it especially interesting.
She mentions the alternative names too. Dumpy just rhymes with Stumpy, so it was nicer to say it first.
I don't know much about physics or mathematics, but the broom question semed obvious to me. Of course the bristles end weighs more than the stick end -especially as most of the 'weight' is resting on the finger and so distributed evenly until cut.
it is because the longer end of the broom has less weight, but that weight is distributed out over a longer distance creating balance.
I love stumpy! I never knew that the dumpy tree frog swallowed with its eyes!
I love these episodes! :D
Oh gosh, Stumpy is adorable.
Face to the response to being afraid of dying was funny
Frogs are freaking adorable
Great show. I really like the girl who brings animals
Louey's face when he says yes hahahahahha 08:14
I love the scishow talk show! =D
I agree with you, GitS is one of my favorite animes/mangas of all time, I also think it's one of the most realistic views of cyborg technology (although I don't think it's that close but I think everything in that is very possible.)
excellent episode, Thank you

Can't stop singing "Stumpy the dumpy tree frog" to the "Chilly Willy the penguin" tune...
got the stump hank right away! Thank you AP physics! :)
Yes it is colder than his hand but not ambient temp. The frog will feel as though it is colder bc of conduction just like we do. Awwww... the whites love Hank too! I love those froggies! I have two!
As soon as that cyborg train comes I'm jumping right on it!
for stump hank, I think when he said "which side is heavier" he meant it in the sense of "which side is more massive." In that case, because Torque=Force*Distance, where force is mass*gravity, the shorter side will have a greater mass, giving it a greater weight. Hank just wouldn't be able to tell by holding it.
this was actually a good opportunity for me to slightly accustom myself to frogs (i am deeply terrified of jumpy amphibians)
I have a broom with a metal handle and plastic bristle casings that I think might have more mass per length on the handle side than the bristle side...

It feels like nearly every week there is an Australian animal on the show. See world! Australia isn't all about deadly snakes, spiders and etc.
This is a very good show!
when you said that ray kurzweil tries to live forever, I realised how ironic that is because "kurzweilian" would translate to "kurzweilig" in German which means short-lived lol
yeah, I have that mug right here

You guys are just so dang smart.
no, he ment conductor, it conducts your heat faster thus not being heated on 1 spot as fast.
We can't skip straight to giving the blind contact lenses. Everyone knows Geordi had to wear a banana comb for over 7 years first! XD
I love it when Hank flirts with Jessie
When I was a kid I was always told not to hold the green tree frog for too long as it will dry out and will soon die. Now I understand why ...after all these years. lol. I used to wet the frogs when they tried coming inside on really hot days and then put out a tub of water in the shade. It was always so sad finding these frogs all dried out.
Hank you have a new fan. The frog!
got the stump hank right away! Thank you no prior physics education! :)
That is one adorable frog
I was going to say something to that effect, but I noticed your comment and decided that liking it was easier.
Hank you got outsmarted by the frog trying to pass it! Stumped by Stumpy, if you will ;)
You need your own show or maybe a segment of a TV show
