I have a degree in Physical Education/Kinesiology, and I am dumbfounded at how brilliantly you explained this. In my lifetime of being educated and speaking with knowledgeable persons, I have never heard anyone breathe a word of how to deal with tight, inelastic nerves. This would explain why I can effect gains in every muscle of my body except hamstrings! Thank you.

I was a ballerina for 9 years and they always pushed us against the walls to stretch harder. I never understood why no matter what I did, there was always this sensation that something was hard and inelastic in my body that demanded to stay in the same position. Those were my nerves! No wonder I couldn't get more flexible, I was basically forcing it to exhaustion. I am trying to be more flexible now and I always had a hard time with the back of my legs and glutes. It's only the straight-leg-stretches that set alarm bells of in my brain. I've always just found them painfully uncomfortable. I've tried so many times to search for an answer and not once have I learnt about the sciatic nerve. It makes so much sense. I injured my coccyx as a child and have always wondered if it's related. And I could sense that I was missing something before, cause the pain in my "hamstrings" was very different from the pain of stretching anything else. Well, now I know that's cause it's a nerve that was stretching improperly.

Any stretches that were supposed to help the hamstring made my calves burn intensely, and my coach said it was normal. I had an eureka moment watching this, I truly never thought I'd find out what my problem was. Now that I've restarted working out and stretching after leaving gymnastics almost 6 months ago, I've encountered the same problem. I will add this to my stretching routine to see if it works for me. You are amazingc Liv! ♥️
I've been having sciatic nerve tension lately and it's been causing my hamstrings to feel angry when I stretch them, but trying this method made things much easier for me.
Thank you so much for sharing this piece of information I am very grateful to have you as my online yoga teacher 🙏♥️

This is great advice - especially emphasising that you only aim for *MILD* stretch sensation. I used to get bad hamstring injuries until I started a stretch routine based on that - slowly nudging yourself - mild sensation only each time

WHAT?! THIS MAKES STRETCHING FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. I’ve always had what my family calls sciatica because it runs in the family but nobody knew the fix. I’ve been flexible always but couldn’t stretch this problem away. And now it just… DOESNT TINGLE AND HURT to extend my legs like that????? God bless you for the simplicity of how you explained this.

UA-cam's recommendations got me here, and this might be one of the biggest blessings of my life! I've always struggled with flexibility but I had no idea my main issue was around my nerves rather than my muscles.
I've always felt that I had something wrong with my body for not being able to follow online stretch/yoga exercises, and the way you explained how nerves and muscles are not directly connected changed my world. Thank you so much!

This is an amazing video. I’ve been doing another video for stretching for over a year now and still can’t stretch my leg like that but I’ve never heard of nerve glides before. I’m going to try this today and see if I can improve my stretching. I’m new to your channel and I’m going to stick with it from now on. I’m 61 and hoping to do the 5k run before Christmas. I’m on week 5 and about to attempt my first 20minute run today so hopefully your videos will help me. Thank you.

Wow. I am seriously tight down my rear chain. Started yoga in the mornings to try and loosen things up. Cow/cat poses helps me a lot but I’ve just followed this and can straight away place my palms flat on the floor. I could do this before but only after a serious amount of uncomfortable stretching. Thankyou

I got a bad anterior pelvic tilt and it spasms every 2-3 months because I used to have bad form when it comes to doing exercises like squats, pushups, planks, and core exercises. I definitely felt a relief to the discomfort that's been lingering every once in a while. Thanks for this video
Also, can you do a video about spasms?
