- Testing out the best method of painting interior panels on my 1999 Outback Sport.
Using:
Krylon Plastic Paint
Duplicolor Vinyl Paint
Plastidip
All in black.
Also using Adhesion Promoter for half the panels.
Thus was the exact video i needed. I want to paint a cozy coupe (kids plastic car) but trying to see which paint, if any, could withstand a toddler. Three screwdriver is exactly what i needed to see. Thanks. Krylon fusion boasts bonding w the plastic without using a primer. Almost had me convinced until i saw this lol
Best video on this I've found so far
Duplicolor doesn’t fully cure until many hours after the final coat was put on. It’s best to use lot of very light dusting costs compared to one thick coat like that. I’ve had really good results with the black duplicolor. Just be prepared to leave your parts out in the open for at least 2 days before getting them in the car. The smell is really strong
You gotta let it gas in the sun
Y sprayed my expedition with Rustoleum camo spray paint with clearcoat . It still looks good after 4 years with no scratches. Prep and getting all that oil out od the plastic is gonna give you the best results... Use a strong degreaser ,clean and repeat 3 or 4 times.
I've had great results with duplicor vinyl and paint spray complimented by a 2k matte clear coat.
*Makes sense, the more coats the more durable*
Hows it holding up? I just ordered some 2k clear coat after painting with duplicolor vinyl as well, but have seen people saying not to do it? What’s ur take and how’s it doing
@@jackson4163 it's holding up just fine; try not to overspray as will ruin your protection layers.
@@WizzyWhipitWonderful did you wait a while before spraying (1 week or 1 month) or same day? Thanks for the fast response as well, I’ve just ripped out all of my plastics in truck and really don’t wanna have to do this years down the line😂 I’m up at 3am with work in the morning stressing
@@jackson4163 I did light coats of the duplicolor with 5 mins in-between each coat and let it cure for the rest of the day. The next day I used the 2k matte clear and used light coats up until my full final coat. Gave it a week's curing time to ensure they fully cured.
I tried to do a beige plastic interior of a Tercel to black many years ago. I washed, lightly sanded, degreased and tried multiple plastic paints, but they all scratched, so as long as you never touched them, they would look fine. If I did it again, I would buy RIT Synthetic dye, and dye them in a heated tub, or try some type of wrap. The dye method would definitely be my "go to" first choice.
@luminor007 would you mind linking the exact carpet dye you used?
That’s more work than anyone has ever done with a Tercel
Awesome experiment! Great information 👍
Honestly a screwdriver would scratch a brand new car's factory interior.
I just wish duplicolor offered this paint in quart cans where you could use a spray gun. And maybe a hardener to make it a little more durable.
I use black trim. Best thing out there that I have found imo.
I found sem interior paint with adhesion promoter acted the same as the duplicolor.
Dude! Great side-by-side comparison. I was going to Plasti Dip some interior pieces in my BMW, but now, a after seeing this, definitely Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Paint with Duplicolor Primer Adhesive Promoter
Plastic dip is designed to peel off if you get bored of the color you can always peel it off
Thank you so much for this video you are a god send
I wonder how long the plexi dip lasted for you
Thanks a lot...other people was just painting without adhesion
Plastic dip is designed to come off.. It's not meant as a permanent paint
Thanks!!….grreat vid
Bro your really the GOAT
SEM is the only paint id use for interiors
Thanks
Thank you for this
cool test but done improperly. none of those were prepped correctly or cured.
Could you put a satin clear (or matte/gloss?) over it to prevent scratching?
Josey Wilds guy... why would you add that last part?
@@madridmaster1630 LOL
@Josey Wilds lmao
@joseywilds3133 Go eat a mornin wood.
😂😂😂 duplicolor was doing pretty good until the screwdriver
So now we know the venal paints don’t work !
Notice he barely puts pressure when it comes to dupli color but the other to he rubs heavily... Sigh false advertisements
So they´re all rubbish.
In the name of experimentation, I will mention the durabilities of various very good looking faux leathers. Those finishes used are tough ! Is there good PU and PVC spray paints ? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_leather
