    The one thought that I found help with this is (for a righty) pinning the top of the left arm against the left peck (which you mentioned). As a result strike improves, does happen later and ball flight is a push draw. Thanks Larry

    Great video - interesting for me because this is very much what I am working on with my coach but coming at it from a slightly different method. We are trying to promote much more rotation by trying to get the club to exit from impact much lower and much more left (if I do not do it then typically my path is 8-9 degrees right) and to do that we are concentrating on feeling the club handle move around my body with the hands not doing any flipping over. Within 10 minutes I had moved the path from 8-9 degrees right to about 2-3 degrees right - sadly only with 1/2 swings so far and rather inconsistently. I see many hours on the practice ground with 1/2 swings and a 8i!
    Either way the result is at impact I am massively more rotated, the lead arm is straight but the rail arm has a touch of flex in it - the strike feels much more powerful as well, proper ball compression

    Hey Larry, I really like three things about your videos:
    1. you're explaining very well how misconceptions of golf swing dogmas hurt rather than help the average golfer.
    2. you're able to transport the most important aspect in your own words very quickly.
    3. you're always coming straight to the point without the "please subscribe to my channel" or "check out my website for the whole paid programme" bs.
    Apart from that I believe you have a very deep understanding of the golf swing in general.
    Please keep it up!

    Larry, I must say you've nailed it! I've been looking for this explanation to understand the how and the why of the movement rotation relationship between the arms and body for for both the backswing and downswing. I've always known that the elbow must be bent as a key to better ball striking, but no one every showed how much and the timing of when to do it.
    You've managed to depict the entire topic in a short video clearly and easily repeatable format. Well done and thank you!
    Might I suggest a video(s) of addressing the ball? Things like:
    1. Foot placement - pressure/balance of toes and heels, width stance, breadth and depth distance in relation to the ball,
    2. Club head position in relation with the ball - should it be square to target? - should the club head be toe up at address?
    3. Top of the club handle position in relation with the body and ball - should it be vertical or slightly forward and how much?
    4. Grip - strong, neutral, weak - how far down the shaft should one grip? 1 Inch, 2 inch, ...
    5. Body posture - knees, arms, back, hands, bottom, head - how and what to relax before the backswing starts
    Keep up the good work!

    The guys at Athletic Motion Golf, using the GEARS full-body sensor system (search their youtube videos), and analyzing actual Pros swings, dispelled the myth or idea that you keep the structure or keep the hands up at the beginning of the downswing - in fact, the opposite is true. Two of the biggest differences in Pros vs AM swings is that Pros accelerate in the 1st foot of the downswing their hands MUCH faster than AMs, and they also apply MORE twisting force on the grip early. It is this MUCH faster transition hand speed that Pros do (not keeping the structure) that actually delays & increases the angles in the hands and wrists, that then, with head drop and increased Right Side Bend, allows for more power to be delivered into the ball with a faster accelerating clubhead (more time for the clubhead to accelerate as the hands accelerated faster early leaving more distance for the clubhead to continue to accelerate as it is still MUCH further away from the ball with the INCREASED wrist angles due to the loaded wrist force at the top/transition). So if you want to be able to get into and tap that increased rotation and bent right arm sources of power, Pros transition very, very hard and fast from the top - this delays the clubhead from unloading because you moved your hands downwards FASTER - not slower

    • @LarryCheungGolf
      @LarryCheungGolf  3 роки тому +1

      There are different feels/intents for different golfers. AMG is good at what they do, I am good at what they do. This video may not be for you and that's ok, we can agree to disagree =)

    • @neutrino61
      @neutrino61 3 роки тому

      @@LarryCheungGolf good and diplomatic answer. Maintaining the structure does not mean to be slowly with your hands in relation to your upper or lower body I think. By maintaining the structure the hands are some kind of left behind and they move in the direct vertical downwards direction. But you do not intend them to move downwards!!! That is a very big difference. If this `key move, that you are teaching` happens by itself then the result will be, in my understanding, faster hand/gripspeed in the way down. The AMG guys and their results of examination are correct I think, but the conclusion how to get there is that you have to maintain structure, as you are teaching!

    • @obito8950
      @obito8950 3 роки тому +1

      They can show the 20mph movement of the grip in transition but not specifically what muscles are being used. They also contradict each other on the topic. The larger man seems to think they are pulling down but the other specifically says it’s not a pulling motion but a well sequenced downswing with soft shoulders. The downward force on the grip is there it’s just getting done by squatting shifting and turning with some gravity also acting on the sinking hands. You can try for yourself to see exactly what happens when you pull. You are fully turned in your backswing weight shifted to the trail foot, hands are the furthest from the target just past your trail heel. Now that your mass is completely away from the target you’re going to put that force down on the part of your body that is the furthest away from the target and your COG right before you want to send everything you have towards the target. Sounds counter intuitive to me already. You will notice that this action creates a reaction to the spine. It literally gets pulled down and away from the target by your hands. This creates a shallowing effect, moves your head away from the ball and will most likely result in a chunk, push or hook. Look at DJs swing face on I’m pretty sure he’s an AMG guy. You will notice his hands barely move that by the time his lower body is back to square. If he was consciously pulling down in transition his hands would be much lower by knees square and you can just see that is not what he is doing.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 3 роки тому

      @@obito8950 you've got a few things factually wrong which lead to a bunch of wrong conclusions. You stated that when your back is fully turned and when your hands are furthest from the target that your weight has shifted to the trail foot - that is not true - that happened well before that (in the first 1-2 feet of the take-away) - by that point, Pros have already moved OVER 50% of their weight back to the front foot (in fact sometimes over 100%, even 200%, with weight drop) - most pros start their downswing the millisecond after the club gets to 1st parallel - just like a baseball pitcher is moving towards home-base as their hand is still going back. The only thing that can apply force to something is something that is touching something - thus by definition, your hands are providing force to the grip - the ability to do is definitely being aided by other parts of your body - but the data clearly shows that the butt-end of the grip in a Pro swing vastly out accelerates & twists when compared to an AM swing - even if ultimately, for example with a 7 iron, both Pros and AMs get to a mid 20mph mile an hour hand speed, Pros get to this speed far faster -> and as a result, everything that follows is now possible - > the clubhead has a longer time to accelerate into the ball, they can drop their weight then straighten the front leg creating more vertical force, they can use right side bend with head drop to offset the bent right arm and forward shaft lean for increased ball compression, etc, etc, etc. There are an infinite many things happening in a chain that creates the horsepower - but horsepower comes from multiplying Torque with elements of speed - and the very first and most important of these is to get the body ready to move the hands as fast as possible. For what it's worth, my analogy on one of their videos was that of a race car and getting the lowest lap times possible - the key is to exit the corner that leads to the longest straight as fast as possible so that this speed is multiplied down the straight-away. To see this in action, just look at the difference in Bryson's old and new swing - while so much of the new swing is actually incorporating everything that Nicklaus did, what you see as by far the biggest difference is in the transition at the top - it's crazy violently fast as he uses everything in his body to change the direction of the club as fast as possible and hit maximum acceleration in the 1st 12 inches of the downswing - in fact, his new swing is finished (ball hit), just the tiniest bit after his old swing started the 'slow' transition at the top. If you want power and distance, you have to throw everything at it (your entire body), through your hands as fast as you can in the transition at the top.

    • @obito8950
      @obito8950 3 роки тому

      Paul O'Neil I know how many golf swings work you seem to think you know how the only golf swing works. All while basically agreeing with me anyway. My example is exaggerated with the weight fully on the back foot as everyone shifts weight different at different times in the swing. If anything that is how you would have a pro swing because to physically pull the club down for its initial one foot of movement you would have to delay the transition or your body will grab and move that club. At the point your hands are about to change direction they are the furthest part of your body from the target and if you pull from that point it doesn’t matter if you have completely fallen on your lead knee (rip your knee) the pull will tilt your spine. You are literally pulling a force down outside of trail foot what do you suggest that physics just take a night off?. You can always grab a club and try it for yourself it is a simple experiment. And I said not every pro twists/manipulates the face. I’m not wrong and AMG doesn’t work with every tour player. The twisting is used to shallow the club by giving it a more incentive to drop when you transition. If you need this twisting move you likely fire your hips at a very fast rate and it is a viable way to get on path. Also believe it or not there are more efficient ways to gain power in the swing that don’t involve ripping your hips as fast as possible with a bowed wrist. And to your final point Bryson does not fire everything all at once from the top no matter what he says he feels because you can clearly see his lower body squat shift and turn while the club is going back and that is what is grabbing the handle exerting the initial movement. The transition is so natural maybe he feels yeah the hands go from the top with my body but really his body was putting in work way before hand. You agree with me anyway the only thing you have wrong is the fact that the pro is physically pulling the club down with his hands and arms. The small dude at AMG specifically says what I am saying lol. The big dude has a god awful swing and said one time that I can remember that they are pulling down simply bc he saw it was moving 20mph. I will say this even if a pro player does in fact say they pull down on that butt end from the top (can’t think of one) their compensations are goated and shouldn’t be replicated.
