- Matsui started his Yankee career with a bang. He finished with one too in Game 6 of the 2009 World Series. Enjoy those two homers along with eight other epic shots from Matsui's Yankee tenure.

Definitely a modern day Yankee legend. I'll never forget the 2009 world series. We wouldn't have done it without him
True, but overall he was a hot and cold hitter. Like the 2004 playoffs against the Red Sox. He could suddenly turn into a long slump and then turn around and go into a long hitting streak. More so than average. So I can't consider him a Yankee legend though I did like him.
Matsui batted .615 in that 2009 world series.
Killed us. Phills Should have won back to back chips. Godzilla made sure that didn't happen.
Fucking hell, his OPS in that series was over 2. 8-13, 3 dingers, 8 RBIs across 6 games. Absolute mad lad that series.
That's pretty big number!
And he was traded away that off season. I was so angry. He wasn't on the field as much but his bat was so reliable and he carried this world series. The MVP no less. He deserved better
@@KingoftheWelsh he regressed pretty bad after that season though. He was getting old
Selfless, honorable, hard working, determined, accountable, kind, and unsatisfied. A true Yankee.
Godzilla is a hero
Matsui was the heart of that 09 team
Jeter called Matsui one of his favorite all time teammates. That is saying something.
Matsui was beloved by his team mates, the fans, and the league. He did everything right.
“Who’s your daddy?”
“Hideki Matsui” Pedro Martinez
Never realized how much he owned Pedro
That’s what I love about baseball. Everyone has their bogey opponent, some of em are hilarious.
Kiler
he was extremely clutch
WHO'S YOUR DADDY
Matsui never faced Prime Pedro. He was at the end of his career in 2009.
loved godzila
What an underrated player, look how nice and flat he keeps the bat when he swings.
One of my all time favorite players Godzilla
He still to this day will forever be my favorite baseball player, I hated seeing him leave New York but he went out on top 💯
True slugger. He’s my hero forever
I think so, too
Love this man. A true Yankee through and through
Matsui: Pedro Martínez is my son.
Martínez: is true😅
Hideki was such a great Yankee. So glad he got a World Series ring let alone a MVP.
One of the best signings in Yankee History. Matsui was Ultra-clutch and if it wasn't for a knee injury, his first real injury, he would be known as a super good outfielder. When he hit it he nailed them.
Sorry, but he was clutch when on a hitting streak, and not clutch in one of his long slumps. It never had anything to do with who he was facing, but both good and bad steaks were long,
@@howie9751 He was a world series MVP , 2 time allstar , his WAR is thru the roof. In the biggest games he came up big. His playoff batting average is around 399. This guy was pure cluth when it counted. Always came up big.
@@bobmack5196 He didn't come up big against the Red Sox in the final four games of the 2004 ALCS. And his WAR is average at best. He did get hot for the 2009 WS.
Ahhh old Yankee Stadium how I miss you
Loved Matsui! Had so many big games for Yankees.. great memories...
I think so, too
Hero of the 09' WS
Being a Yankees fan I was always disappointed that they didn't bring Matsui back for the 2010 season or beyond especially after all the success he had.
As a BASEBALL fan it should royally piss you off. Godzilla is probably one of the most underrated clutch performers in the history of sports
Choice
Same feeling, he earned the right to come back in 2010...but I got to see the day they honored him in 2013, I’m so happy he’s appreciated because he truly was an amazing player watch
@@waydebaker33 dude …. You are absolutely right. This man was CLUTCH !!!
@@waydebaker33 He was only clutch when on a hot streak. He wasn't clutch when in one of his long droughts as in the last four games of the 2004 Sox playoffs. He was like that his whole career with the Yanks. Both hot and cold streaks were long.
This man was cold blooded lethal I swear yet so humble . The quiet ones are always the lethal killers and that's what he was a killer in the clutch
True professional and a gentleman of the game. Loved the roar of the crowd when he hit that bomb in the Tokyo Dome. I Recommend anyone go see a game there it is an amazing experience! 👍🏼
he was playing for yomiuri giants before yankees and tokyo dome was their homeground
EHSR
Just a pure pro....miss him!
He lowkey had the best bat flip. Subtle but great
I’m glad you brought this up. He always kept his emotions at bay and was respectful and a class act....the bat flip happens so quickly after getting a hold of the ball that he couldn’t contain it completely, but it’s PERFECT...he never took it too far or did it out of disrespect. True professional.
Loved his swing.
Severely underrated Yankee from the 2000s decade
やっぱり別格ですね。
One of my favorite yankees of all time.
I have always believed his first home run the grand slam in his first game was his most memorable. I remember watching the game live . The electricity in the stands was amazing. Next to Reggie he had a true flair for the dramatic. Since his career as a Yankee wasn’t long enough. No consideration for the HOF
Yankee legend for sure
The definition of an honorable/respectable player is Hideki Matsui. Thank you Hideki Matsui for all those amazing moments you provided us.
Agree
That 2009 World Series performance is still one of the greatest I’ve ever watched live
Great memories. Thanks for posting
Man he was fun to watch
He does his job....trots around the bases at a respectable pace....Touches home.....then goes directly to the dugout where he will then smile and celebrate modestly. The professionalism in this can’t be undervalued. He’s ecstatic inside but he always acted like he’d been there before.
Mastui = CLASS ACT!
Love the swing! Matsui was more than a average player! He was a solid and then some! I’ll take him on my line up every day and twice on the Sunday!
He was brilliant for the yankees so clutch in his performance when the team needed it most.
THAT FIRST BAT FLIP , was BOSS!
for a reserved and a lad of class !
He got ahold of one, and couldn't contain it for half a second ! lol
Favorite NY player during the decade of 2000-2010
He was so clutch...Legend 👍
Such a great player
He was worth everything we paid him for.
What I always love about watching Matsui's home runs is that he is so professional about it. No pimping, but just puts his head down and runs around the bases.
That’s cool and all, but there’s nothing wrong with dropping the bat like a mic and watching that ball fly for another 2 seconds
Yankee With No Brim yea everyone says that till you’re on the mound and it happens to you.
Dog Mayor
Shit, then there’s a bigger epidemic among pitchers if that’s the case
Yankee With No Brim doesn’t matter anyway. This sport has become a joke in the last several years and i could care less about the current game. Idiots like you can watch the astros, watch guys pimp homeruns who only hit about 10 a year, and bask in the inflated stats we’ve been enduring since the mlb bought a huge stake in the rawlings baseball company. This game is a joke and they’re just trying to pander to jackasses like yourself. So you can have it. I’m done.
Dog Mayor
Alright. I didn’t say doing one thing or the other after a home run was the law but suit yourself. Matsui isn’t less of an MVP 🤷🏾♂️
That 2009 Yankee team won it all because it had a horde of clutch bats on fire in the post-season, including Matsui. In Matsui's other years it was astounding how many guys would just go ice cold once October started.
Already a member of the Japanese hall of fame, 507 Homer's Japan and MLB combined. Thinking he's a good candidate for the MLB hall of fame.
Matsui-san was such a terrific addition to the Yankee line up.
We were blessed to get him.
He was the man.
A thrilla by Godzilla
Matsui truly owned Pedro Martinez.
My HERO
Love Godzilla!
Godzilla 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Matsui had such a sweet swing
Loved me some matsui
A truly great yankee!
HERO
They never should’ve let him go, I would’ve liked him to play for the Yankees his whole career
Awesome vid! I know this gets hammered over the head a lot, but I have to say, Joe Buck ruined so many great Yankee moments :|
Joe Buck didn’t just kill classic Yankee moments, he killed countless classic MLB moments and NFL moments. He is a piece of shit.
@jl rx If you like a monotone voice, with little excitement and minimal commentary then Joe is your guy... you're right about the Leyritz homer, but thats an anomaly
Not really because the smart ones turned the TV down and radio up. Back in these days you could listen to any teams home radio for free on the net. Now it costs money and the games are rigged....
Hosteling
Mann those were the days...i remember pedro owning us..but then wen matsui played he even things up..an pedro seemed flustered against hideki...at times
This nigga saying us like he was on the team
As a Japanese, I am so glad the fact that he’s so respected and loved in the US! 松井がアメリカでも尊敬され愛されてる事がめちゃ嬉しいです!
Not only in the USA, around the world, 🌍 I started to follow NYY for my grandma and she told me, “this year a crazy Asian will play in our team, he will shine”
She loved him and always we admire him amazing 2009
#6 bat speed is unreal.
This is awesome thanks for making it
Godzilla Matsui was so clutch one of the best all time to come from Japan
That man worth every penny.
I think this channel will blow up soon
what an amazing player
Ruth started everyone's success with his vibes
Always hated the Yankees as a kid in the 2000s but always loved that roster. They had a great roster with Arod, Jeter, Posada, Matsui, Damon, Teixeria, Mariano, Sheffield , Cano and more
Definitely a star studded roster back in the day
A THRILLA BY GODZILLA Cmon MLB Put him in the HOF I mean that WS MVP Should put him in there
Nothing beats that half second after the ball comes off the bat and New York goes wild
Is matsui how popularity in NY?
He is super star and legend in JP:)
Forever in our Hearts 🙌
For me, if I made an all star line up of the Yankees last 30 years:
1B Mattingly
2B Cano
SS Jeter
3B A Rod
RF O'Neil
CF Bernie Williams
LF *Matsui*
C Posada
DH Fielder
John Sterling legendary commentary
Damn i love Matsui. He always reminded me of shigeru miyamoto as a kid.
The most clutch yankee hitter in that era
An upper decky for Hideki!
I am sure John Sterling said that at least once.
2003 本拠地初戦グランドスラム
2009 WSペドロから2本
マジで痺れる
How Bout when Lofton & Matsui went back to back off Trevor Hoffman in bottom of 9th 2 puts to force extras!? June 13th, 2004
Matsui needs to be induced into Cooperstown!
Godzilla Strikes
Pedro Martinez must’ve hated pitching against Hideki
3:58 I'm sure was loving this.
class act
Excellent yankee. No fear. Man he owned pedro
I guess Pedro had to call Matsui his daddy too.
Joe Buck has the charisma of a park bench.
He owned Pedro Martinez.
He is greatest than Ichiro.
The father of Pedro Martínez.
Owned Pedro.
Pedro must have hated facing Matsui, did he ever throw at him
He ripped #6!
I was at the game for home run number 9
Wow never expected to hate this video so much
A thrilla from Godzilla.
Hi honey! Just doing our fantasy draft.........got Matsui!!!
🔥🔥🔥
woooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo
Like how all of these are from 2009,2004, or 2003
