    Thank you for this. Shipping, and how much to charge, scares me. A lot of the advice don’t work for us in Hawai’i, like a lot of businesses don’t ship to Hawai’i or charge a ridiculous amount. I think the best is to go for it!

      ALOHA!! I totally understand! We used to live in Hawaii and still have family there. Traditional shipping is definitely expensive. When selling through eBay you get access to discounted shipping rates. I would focus on light weight items that will weigh less than 1lb. This will guarantee you get the cheapest rates (approximately $6.50 through ground advantage). If you are sourcing heavier items then definitely make sure the item sells for really good money, or you will end up paying the highest price possible because the distance the item has to travel. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for this video! I’m currently in process of cross listing from Poshmark to eBay. Should I weigh each item prior to listing on eBay or can I estimate it? Once I sell the item, do I then put in actual weight & dimensions? You also said ground advantage has replaced first class, correct? What shipping supplies can I use with ground advantage? What if item weighs over a pound? Do you still recommend ground advantage? Sorry for all the questions, but I’m used to Poshmark’s easy shipping. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Would love another video on shipping with step by step on variety of items. Thank you!

    • @Resellwithchels
      @Resellwithchels  5 місяців тому

      Those are all great questions. If you’ve been selling long enough estimations should fine for calculated shipping. With calculated shipping the buyer pays the usps non discounted rate for shipping and you still get the shipping discount, so there is usually a little buffer on what the buyer pays versus what you pay. Yes ground advantage has replaced first class. Shipping supplies for ground advantage can be pretty much anything, except for usps items marked priority mail or flat rate. We use generic poly mailers and boxes. The great thing about ground advantage is you can ship heavy items with it and it’s cheaper than paying priority mail. We use ground advantage for all of our items except really heavy and large items (for these we use ups or fedex). We’ve pretty much stopped using priority mail. The only exception is when a shipping costs more than a padded flat rate envelope. We still advertise it as shipping ground advantage, but will upgrade to priority padded envelope if it ends up being cheaper. Hope that all makes sense. Please let us know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching

    Thanks for sharing! Your explanation was one of the first ones that actually made it seem fairly simple. When you finishing adding label do you have to notify the buyer or will eBay automatically send them the tracking? Also, if it's calculated shipping are there instances where the buyer selects which type of shipping to send it (ie. UPS, ground advantage, priority, etc) or does the seller always get to choose?

    • @Resellwithchels
      @Resellwithchels  2 місяці тому

      I’m so glad you found my video helpful. Great questions. If you purchase the label through eBay then eBay will upload the tracking for you and notify the buyer. If you go to the post office to buy the label you will need to upload the tracking yourself. You should always buy the label through eBay as it will save you so much money. When filling in the shipping info section we always select ground advantage. When we do this the buyer doesn’t have the option to select something else. We’ve never had a problem doing it this way. Also buy selecting ground advantage it then always gives you the option to upgrade the shipping service if you want too. The rule of thumb is it’s ok to upgrade shipping, but never down grade it. Hope this helps.

    Hi ))) My question is, How can I list shipping cost by Calculating shipping, if the item is not packaged? Like I am planning to list today two pairs of heavy men work boots, both are very heavy. After listing, they go on the open shelf for me to find them easily once sold, along with other shoes. So how could I calculate dimensions and weight without box? Or even I am selling large size firm cup bras, they are huge, can't be smashed, need to go to the box once sold, and I even don't have a suitable box yet. So how would I measure and weigh them? It's easy with light clothing. And flat rate usps boxes are so expensive. Shipping stinks yet for another reason - buyers think you can ship everything for free, or little 4 bucks cost for everything, and higher ACTUAL shipping turns them off buying your item. I was not prepared for this challenge. But. Other people do it all the time, so hopefully I will figure it out, too. Thank you for sharing, this video is very helpful.

    • @Resellwithchels
      @Resellwithchels  6 місяців тому +1

      That’s a great question! When doing calculated shipping we found the best thing to do is weigh the item and then add 1lb for packing material. This should get you very close to the final weight of the package. For the dimensions, lay the item flat just like you would put it into a box and then add 1-2 inches in length on both sides and do the same for the height. This isn’t perfect, but will get you very close to the dimensions you will use. When you go to ship out you may have to cut down and resize the box to better match the dimensions you listed. This same method can be used for any item. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    As somebody who has had their ebay store open for roughly a month now, I'm still struggling to understand the shipping aspect. I have a bunch of clothes listed and plan on shipping them in bubble mailers to keep them under 1 pound but also providing some protection. Are you saying Ground Advantage is the "best bang for your buck" when selecting a shipping option for something like that? Calculated seems to always come out to at least 5ish dollars for Ground Advantage. Maybe I'm just ignorant to costs nowadays but shouldn't there be a cheaper option to ship something thats under a pound in a 10 by 12 bubble mailer? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. 😅

    • @Resellwithchels
      @Resellwithchels  6 місяців тому +1

      Great question! Yes ground advantage is the cheapest option for shipping anything, especially items under a pound. USPS used to have first class options for items under 1lb, but did away with it. It’s actually worked out better as now we can even ship heavier items using ground advantage and pay way less than going to priority mail. Also a benefit to ground advantage is it comes with $100 insurance. Previously under first class it didn’t have that included. We know the most we pay for items under 1lb is about $6.50 so if the final weight is close to 1lb then we charge $6.95. We also wish there was a cheaper option, but sadly there is not. So we must adapt our business to these changing factors. Thanks for watching and good luck!

      Thanks for the help! I've been tearing out my hair trying to figure out what my best options were to protect my profit while also providing my customers quality shipping. Ebay fooled me into thinking shipping usps first class envelope would cost me a fraction of ground advantage when setting up my listing until I went to print my shipping label after a sale and then reality hit me when it showed me the actual cost. Im so glad I found your video and was able to ask somebody with experience!

    • @Resellwithchels
      @Resellwithchels  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes, that can be very frustrating when things get switched around. I’m glad the video and response was helpful. We sell a lot of clothes and ground advantage is what we use 99% of the time. The best thing you can do for your business is find items that have good margins. The better the expected profit the easier it is to adjust to the new things eBay will throw at you.

    Great video! My question is, like, where do I drop my package? Do I have to go with it to USPS, can I schedule a pick up so that they come to my house, or can I leave it in my mailbox if it fits there? 😢

    • @Resellwithchels
      @Resellwithchels  8 місяців тому +1

      Great question! We usually just take it to the post office and drop it off (you shouldn’t have to wait in line). On the end of the desk the PO usually has a basket out and we just toss our shipments in there. Through ebay when you go to print your labels it will usually give you an option to schedule a pick up. This really works great and we use it occasionally. Another option would be to just hand it directly to the mailman when you see them.

    • @Resellwithchels

      No problem! One word of caution if you go to the PO to drop off … if the line isn’t very long, it’s worth waiting to get a receipt showing that the item was scanned. The receipt will help you in the event that the package is lost. This is especially important if it’s a high dollar item. Our PO usually has an insane line, so we usually don’t wait for the receipt and thankfully we haven’t really had issues, but it’s worth mentioning/being aware of 🙂. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

      In order to get the best deals you’re going to need to be able to print out your own labels. Look into the dymo 4XL (there is a link in the description) its very small and doesn’t need much room. For shipping supplies you may want to look at selling items that can fit and ship safely in a poly bag since poly bags take up very little space. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

      That’s a great question! Yes it is true that you can boost your eBay rating by purchasing items from the platform. However it only works if those sellers provide feedback on your purchases. While this helps a little, I would focus more on listing and selling in demand items. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!

    I possibly have a dumb question. I have just opened an ebay store and I am going to be listing my 1st item in the next day or so. My question is do I need to have money in my ebay store to purchase a shipping label or has the buyer already paid for the order and the shipping label. Oh I have another question. I say on another channel that items that are trademarks are being removed by AI and flagged as counterfeit. I was gifted about 50 brand new in original packaging Harley Davidson patches. I am concerned that if I post them (even though there a ton listed already) that I could get in trouble. Hope any of this makes sense. I really appreciate any help you can offer.

    • @Resellwithchels
      @Resellwithchels  10 місяців тому

      Those are great questions! It depends on how you set up your account. Ebay will likely deduct the shipping label cost from any of the sales that you make, but they’ll also have you link your bank account in case there are any shortages. As far as AI and flagging items, we have not experienced that. Some brands are more protective of their items than others and will look at flagging things. You could Google VERO list eBay to see some that could be flagged. We have never had issues with selling Harley Davidson. Sounds like you got some really cool items gifted to you. Some friendly advice would be to sell the most expensive ones individually and then you can lot the others up. This is a great way to increase your sales price and profit per sale as you won’t have to buy shipping labels for every single patch. Hope this helps and good luck on your eBay journey! Thanks for watching!

      Oh wow! You’re lucky then. Usps terms of service does not allow you to do this. You may get away with it, but there is the risk of the post office sending your item back for improper use or they could hold the package and make the buyer pay the additional shipping charge before they release the package and then that buyer will be reaching out to you to correct the situation. We do not recommend doing this.
