I distinctly remember as a youth in my excursion back in the day with a v10 burning 40 gallons in 205 miles. Which is about 5 mpg. And thats driving it like you stole it. Not long after the torque converter died and i learned what a trans build cost. So that changed my behavior a bit. Less driving like i stole it and more occasional bits of fun.
Thanks for watching you be safe out there too. Way too many good people (fun loving people) dying in avoidable crashes. It erks me.

Great ride along. My 7.3 tremor just rolled over 12,000 miles. I've hand calculated mpg since first fill up. I'm sitting at 12.7mpg overall. On I-75 empty running 77 mph I'm showing 12-13 average. Pretty good for a 1 ton with 4:30 gears.

I like the ride along model. I dont think standing infront of a white board is any better.

@@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 I'm in Eco most of the time, which dulls the pedal response so, outside of highway merging, I'm taking it really easy overall. RPMs at 60mph are around 1800, 2000 cruising on the highway at 70.

My hemi 6.4 megacab runs at 1600 rpm at 65mph. When I pass a vehicle it jumps up to 2000 rpm, and passes fairly quick. Ive hauled 1 ton in the bed quite a bit and 7000 lb utility trailer also and it didn't rev up as high as you said. It just cruises along even when its weighed down. Unloaded driving at 65 mph i get between 18 and 22 mpg. Its not as torque'y as a diesel but for a gas it sure does move. Im no lead foot but im also no slouch.

@wakeupamerica2024 yesterday from farmington nm to Albuquerque through cuba, nm. I averaged 15.3mpg doing the speed limit(65-55-45-35, lotsa communities). I topped off before leaving, and I topped off in Albuquerque to see what the truck actually used, not the lie-o-meter. Then drove here and there, dropped off things.
Then, before leaving heading to gallup, I topped off on fuel and drove 85mph on i40 west. On the interstate hauling ass I averaged 18.5mpg based on topping off in gallup and spent the night there. 85 mph and peterbuilts were still passing me.
At 85 mph, my rpm was at 2000/2100, just barely over the 2.
      6.4 hemi with 8 speed.

Just as an FYI ... I bought new a '21 F350 with the 7.3L & 3.73 rear. I bought it tow our 8400# trailer.Traveling at ~62-64mph with the trailer I average 10.3mpg's over ~12k miles here in the Pacific N.W. with hills & mountains. I've had one trip @13mpg's (flat) & one at 7mpg with a large headwind. Empty on frwy @ 65mph is 17.0 to 17.5 mpg. Very seldom city driving but ~12-13mpg's. I'm real happy with all this though. I've had numerous trucks over the last 50+ years. The older ones were always 10mpg, empty or full, city or frwy, 6cyl or v-8 under 400 cu in. A F250 with a 460 was ~7mpg. . It's similar for both gas & D, at the bottom of every gear, go easy, As the R's come up add more fuel, for that acceleration that we all love,. Then a little before the top of that gear, back-off the pedal just a hair, letting the theTrans drop into the next gear, rinse & repeat. Mine has a nine-speed, and it wasn't until I learned The Machine before the truck got its best performance/economy. Believe it or not the two go hand in hand.
-- If you add the load/fuel while the R's are within the power band the motor burns all/more of the fuel and you get your money's worth.
-- If you add the load/fuel before the motor is in its power band when the motor isn't ready to burn, that unburnt juice gets scrubbed by the emissions system.
Drive The Machine the way it was built ( with the brain and not the pedal )and you can still have some seat-of-the-pants fun. It's when we push these things before they are ready to burn the juice is when they fall short in whatever efficiency they can reach.

Its common sense but it works. My dad being a engineer has a real thrill when he maximizes fuel economy. I think his fascination is that he can go from point a to point b for as little energy as he can. I thought it was stupid when i was young. I remember complaining in the passenger seat of his lbz as he speed up to 53 which was the lowest speed it would go into 6th and converter lock up and slow down a bit carefully and it would hold 50 in 6th locked. He got a kick out of that and timing traffic lights so he never had to stop. Now that im older, and i see the fuel bill i really get a kick out of it too

Zero 2500hd’s or 3500 hd had 6.2. None in express or 2500 burbs. All were 6.0’s. The 6.2 is an aluminum block engine and wouldnt pass durability tests in an hd truck.
Even denali hd’s didnt have them. Thats a common assumption though because the engine cover looks the same and visually the engines look the same.

More or less day one. Between you and me im very impressed with it and i wonder if ford snuck in some cheating. My 2019 6.7 was unbelievable until the dealer reflashed it with that tune update that i asked them not to do but some fool did it anyway. I lost about 3mpg with that tune update and it was a big reason i traded the truck in.
My dads cummins im sure is part of that cummins recall. Its a g56 manual and gets 20 plus average mixed driving. Its a really remarkable truck.
We are protecting that obd2 port with our life lol.
But in regards to the 7.3 its more or less always been like that. I drove it about 200 miles then hooked to a small enclosed trailer and went to bear camp with a friend. So basically 200-1300 miles was towing a 7 foot tell 16x7 enclosed trailer to which i averaged 11 ish at 65. But when i unhooked and went exploring i was seeing 15 plus at 50-55 and i was very impressed. That was within 500 miles of new or so. So its been like this the whole time.
So much of fuel economy has to do with how you accelerate. Im willing to waste an extra 25 seconds going slow up to speed because it makes a big difference in how much i spend on fuel which means more for other activities.
      Thanks for watching.

Those “names” are internal code names that get leaked to the public. Ford literature doesn’t refer to those engines by those names. Plus the 7.3 isn’t a big block like people say. It doesn’t have a the bore spacing for it. Also, big and small block is GM callouts. Ford has engine family’s but never mentions big or small block. The 7.3 is more of a medium block.
