My favourite blade is Gillette Platinum and use them for 4 shaves. When Russia invaded Ukraine I immediately bought a bunch of Russian GP’s. I now have 6 1/2 years’ worth of blades. That way it will give me time to research new blades. I think I may go back to Feather. I changed my shaving routine. I do WTG, XTG, & ATG on my cheeks, goatee, and moustache. On my neck I do only 2-passes (WTG & ATG (at a 45 degree angle towards the centre)). The Feather was irritating my neck but now I only do 2-passes on my neck, I think I’ll be fine with the Feather. The Feather did give the closest shave ever. Thanks for all the work you put into your videos. You are an awesome guy. I am disappointed, but not surprised, that the Chinese blades are inferior. I think sales of GP’s will plummet because Gillette Platinum blades are considered the best Gillette blades, but not anymore.
Thanks, Robert! Two passes if definitely what my neck prefers as well. I started doing two passes in my videos as a way to shorten them a little bit, and I noticed a HUGE difference on my neck. I agree about location, I'm afraid of what the result might be for my other favorites from Russia like GSB. Have a great week brother!
You may want to call P&G customer hotline and complain about the new Chinese blades. Tell them what you do (shaving videos) and tell them you will not be buying the Chinese made GP’s. Maybe that will get their attention.
Great video as always sir. Modern wet shaving has become my therapy as well. The research, the aromas, the ritual, all have had a major impact on my stress, blood pressure, and overall well being in a very positive way. Even a bad shave is a good shave for me.
I've been nervous about this for a bit. The Russian blades are all just so good and so inexpensive. Hopefully Proctor and Gamble does their best to make sure the quality stays the same in China. Looking forward to this series a lot.
Well that was my guess before I knew the outcome, but it's always good to know for sure. I'm a big fan of Polesilvers, Wizamets, etc., but not all Russian blades are as smooth as those. Like any product made in those two countries, it comes down to the specs that are required, and really any shortcoming is the fault of Gillette. You only get what you ask for and if Gillette doesn't state it on the spec sheet the manufacturer isn't going to do more. It will be interesting to see what blade battles you have in store. Take care!
Yes sir and those blades are next. TBH this series has been on my mind ever since I did my Enigma Machine review more than a year ago. I've already begun the Thin-blade process. And I bought a few extra packs 👊
The reason the platinums were my favorite was how sharp but at the same time how forgiving they were with bad technique and how safely I could do against the grain passes on my neck (very sensitive). I just got a batch of 50 chinese blades and they are ok but they lost their edge (pun intended). I think the permasharps are now my new favorite because they resemble the old platinums the most. Treet new steel (white box) are also ok but slightly less sharp. PS: I only use any blade once. Every time I reuse, my neck regrets it
Good to know. Platinum is one of my favorite blades. I still have a good amount of the Russian made ones. I would need to stock up for it before they get harder to get. I usually max out my blades before I toss them.
Is it possible that like kitchen cutlery it is the base material that causes shorter blade life ? A premium kitchen knife holds an edge longer than a bargain brand because of the construction of metal made to make it. Also I have used more blades than most people ever will (carpet blades) and I can say Personna were the best of them all, although you would never shave your face with one.
Absolutely possible, I wondered that as well. However, just from the way the deterioration felt, I lean towards a thinner or cheaper platinum coating. I could be totally wrong. Have a good one brother!
I got around to trying out a Russian-made Gillette Platinum and it *does* feel very similar to the Minora Platinum. I wonder if it might just be a different label for a different market.
Very nice blade compare! Toby!😊 What I mean about Gillette's whole change of stance. Well, basically nothing! Of course the company can do what it wants. But if they think they are harming Putin, I very much doubt it. But the people they are definitely harming are the workers, the little guy who can't do anything about Putin's crap.
The Chinese government is worse than the Russian government. That's the irony for me. China is completely evil. They have slaughtered millions of their own people in RECENT years and let's not forget Covid. And thanks, Robert!
@@Tobins_throwbacks that's true a sad truth of many sad things in the world. What happened in the last 20 and more years. We, the little citizen, are always the poor ones who have to take the blame.
i think Gillette is outsourcing to another china manufacturer for their double edge blade. i get only 2 best shaves(both sides) from the china made, and it starts to pull and drag. with the the russian I get about max 4 to 5 shaves. I'm going back to feather it gives me up to 6 to 8 shave. I oil my blades everytime I finish using it.
I know these razor blades very well. the ones that are engraved were on the market from the very beginning and I don't know what it is like now, but I know they are ugly
With a few of the blades I noticed the difference almost immediately. I think the quality controls are much lower for these new blades plus other obvious issues such as cheaper materials. Have a good one!

Same for me, GP are my go to blades. I use one blade for 7 shaves ( a week) and I bought a 20 years stock at the beginning of the Ukraine war.

Did you say “shine-ah”? Hehehehehe
🤣 maybe lol
Ohhhhhhh, I LOVE that Gillette T-shirt ❤❤❤❤
Thank you!

Thanks, Paul me too, I had hoped for more from these blades.
I'm hoping one day soon production will return to St. Petersburg.
Have a good one!
I don’t think production will ever return to St. Petersburg, Russia.
@robertross8565 you are probably right, but my fingers are crossed lol
Very interesting. I thank you very much for you input, it's appreciated a lot !
My pleasure! Thanks brother!
Great comparison brother, thanks for sharing your findings! 🤘
Thanks! I've got a bunch more planned started using two different blades yesterday and comparing them.
Thanks for the blade comparison, a bit disappointing result from the Chinese P&G blade.
Don't get me wrong, the 2nd and 3rd shave were still doable. It's just a noticeable change that occurred faster than I expected. Have a great day!
Glad I stocked up a few months back. We were afraid of this.

Thanks brother! I've been planning this series for sometime now and am enjoying the process. Have a great week!
Thanks for these videos. Have you ever made a “favorite blades” video yet? I would like to watch it if you have.
Thank you, sir! I have not, I need to though!
Thank you! Great breakdown!
I have to ask. Were you already planning blade comparisons when I asked you to do one on the Thai and Vietnamese Super Thin blades?

I just picked up another 250 Wizamet Super Iridium blades made in Russia. Now I don’t have to think about razor blades until 2036.
Good to know. Thanks for the info.
You bet, have a good one!
Excellent! Thanks, Tobin! I was wondering about this
Thank you! I've been wondering too and when I saw the Chinese were on the market I had to give em a go
Great comparison. Most shavers on yt use them for just one shave and say they are the same

I just learned that The Wet Shaving Store has them cheaper than elsewhere, at least when compared to the prices I've seen
How many shaves do you get from the Platinum?
@@Tobins_throwbacks around 6. But I typically only shave the lower part of my neck. And touch up on the cheeks for the beard.
@@Tobins_throwbacks good to know
The manufacture in St. Petersburg must be still functioning. I've got a pack of Russian made Gilette Rubys dated May 2024 and branded P&G.
Yeah, I believe they are still manufacturing a few there. Curious, where did you buy your Ruby's? I only have 20 or 30 left.
Have a good one!
@@Tobins_throwbacks I was visiting my mom in Russia this summer and just bought a pack in the local store.

Wow, very well done sir
Thank you kindly!
Wow! With the blades degrading so quickly, it seems that they are now no longer particularly good value.
The 2nd shave was still good, just not what I would have expected or hoped for.
Well, apparently they also degrade in price..... ;-)
@stevenlambrechts9942 I saw on Amazon today that the King C Gillette has dropped in price now as well. The China blades are only $16.99 for 100
