The Rockwell 6C was my first real razor, a gift from my dear mum, and I absolutely love it. I was gifted a two-tone 6S by a friend, and also another 6C for my eldest, Wenlock.
Awesome! Great gift mum! I LOVE these razors, has your Chrome worn off at all?
@@Tobins_throwbacks not one dingle bit! I can't say the same for the coloured coating on the 6S, though.
Hey Tibin. The 6S is also die cast. Its not CNC machined. It just goes to show that CNC machining is way operated. Razors are not jet engine parts, LOL. Cheers brother
Fantastic review Tobin! I love my 6S, as you said fantastic workhorse razor which delivers great shaves!
Enjoy the weekend brother!
Thanks, you too! What plate do you prefer?
@@Tobins_throwbacks really depends on my mood. I switch them from P3 to P6. Without adjustments between the passes.
I have both and like both. I would pick the 6S just because the durability. Great video.
Thanks Steve, I would as well. I definitely prefer the heft and durability of the 6s.
Love the grading system and the symmetry score. Keep up the good work Tobin!
Thank you! I put a lot of thought into the scoring system, I hope people find it useful. Have a good one!
I concur once again with your assessment and evaluation of the razors. I have both the 6S and 6 C and they are fabulous while offering flexibility and great comfort. I like the parameters you use to review the razors. 👍
@mariocouture1596 thanks Mario! They are amazing razors!
Great information for shavers getting started with wet shaving! Thanks for including The Wet Shaving Store in your video, Tobin!
Hi Andy - I’m relatively new to the shaving community here but I’m here to stay for a while. Tobin introduced me to the wet shaving store - that’s where I got my Louis set. The wet shaving store sticker I received with that order is the first sticker I put up on my shave den dresser. I love that it says “This is Wet Shaving” It’s the ultimate definition of what my dresser is all about! Anyhow, I just wanted to say hi (btw my name is Lee), I’m glad to hear you are feeling better, and congratulations on the addition to your family!
Thanks Andy! With the discount no one else (that I could find) came close in price! Thanks again for allowing me to offer that doscount!
@Lee-deadphishaves i love that sticker! I agree!
@@Tobins_throwbacks my pleasure! Glad I can help support your channel in this way.
Thanks Tobin! These are the razors that I will get my boys when they're ready to wet shave. The plate options will allow them to grow with the razor. As always, I appreciate your honest review!
Awesome! And definitely! Thanks Jeff!
Thanks for making this video and sharing it with us 👍
You bet, thanks for watching James!
Another great installment in the series Tobin!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Tobins_throwbacks very much sir!
Nice review on this workhorse. Great razor. I have not noticed alignment issues on my 6c or 6s. I’ll have to recheck. I had alignment issues on 2 Merkurs and I moved them along.
It's minor, and the Merkurs are worse. Thanks Ronnie, have a good one!
Very good Tobin! Well, I hadn't really considered adjustable razors having more than one score, I just thought you had aggregated it to an overall score. I think the Rockwell 6S is another razor that just hit at the wrong time for me and I was more into slants and single edge razors at the time. It must be a really good one because I've never heard anything negative at all and it definitely has a following. Yeah if you asked me what the Fatboy or the Gibbs was like on anything under the max setting, I couldn't tell you-lol! It's good that you gave it a try on the lower ones so you could be complete in the review. I've used a couple mild ones lately and those might have to find a new home or be relegated to the razor shelf. Have a great one bro!
Thanks, Ian! It was definitely way too mild and I knew immediately that not using it was a good idea all along lol
Have a good one!
@@Tobins_throwbacks I bet! Even for a beginner that first plate (1/2) is pretty much useless. Maybe this razor should have had only two plates from the start.
Great video Tobin! I have the Rockwell 6C and the T2. I use them in my weekly rotation and love them both! I got them last year on Black Friday. I use the 6C on the 3 plate. It is such a great shave.
Thanks, Sam, do you feel like the T2 shaves the same as the 6c?
Great info love getting all the details on razors!
Thanks Dan!
Great honest review, Tobin. At this point, I do not own any Rockwell razors. However, I do have some good razors, IMHO.
I would love to see you do a comparison of the RazoRock GameChanger .68-P vs .76-P vs .84-P. I think that would be very interesting. I just bought a GC .76 after test driving a .84-P.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
Thanks, Brian! I've wanted to buy the GC but haven't yet, I'd love to eventually. This new job will help a lot of razor money
Have a good one!
@@Tobins_throwbacksBest of luck starting the new job.
Great review, I picked up a 6C new in the box off a resale page for $40, money well spent, great razor for the money!
Hell yeah! Great deal! I think that's about what I paid for mine, that or like $35ish "back in the day" lol.
Have a good one Dave!
🙏 my favorite razor! I have the blue stainless and it has worn like your chrome in places
I love it!
Another well done review from the 🐐
Thanks Chuck!
Appreciate the information as always!
Thanks John!
Hey Tobin, I have the 6S in matte and red. Great razors. Plate 5 is my go to. Best, Glenn
Glenn! How's the finish holding up on the red?
@@Tobins_throwbacks About 10 uses… like new. No marks or chips.
Tobin!! Funny, my throwbacks shirt came on Monday!
Sweet! Thanks again brother!!
Nice review and information given. I think the 6C would be a great beginner razor as you can find which aggression you prefer. In the beginning I started mild and started going more aggressive but have settled in the middle. Have a great weekend
Thanks Mike! Me too, I started out with gillette's worked my way up slowly, now I like the middle ground😊 have a good one!
Great review, Tobin so much Information! 👍🏼
I will soon have the MP version mirror polished 😅
Have a great day.
Thanks Robert are you polishing it?
@@Tobins_throwbacks No not me, John June do it!
Had to rewatch this one, the 6c has been on my short list.
You'll likely love it!
Nice review Tobin. I have a HIGHLY polished 6S and love plate 5 with it. Efficient and mindless shaver 👍
Thanks Dave! Did you polish it yourself? I've been tempted to polish mine.
@@Tobins_throwbacks No, a member with experience had done it for himself and I traded something I had that he wanted for it.
Awesome review, you never disappoint 👍
Thanks Al😊🙏
Great video, Tobin. These are really enjoyable razors. I find that PAA Strangelets work best for me in the 6C/S.
Thanks, Lee! I love Strangelets in them! 🙏👍👍🙏 have a good one!
Anothet honest review Tobin, keep calling em how you see them!
Thanks, will do!😊😅
Great Information - greetings from germany winni
Thanks Winni, hope you had a great summer in the fatherland!
@@Tobins_throwbacks Hi Tobi Thanks -yes the summer was great - winni
@@winniwittkopp51 same here my only complaint is that once again it went by too quickly
@@Tobins_throwbacks yes ! - the winter is hard - servus winni
Thanks for the review Tobin. I researched the rockwell 6s and the t2 when I was about to begin my wet shaving journey I end up with the ascension select. I was thinking in buying the blue 6s in the future but is a bummer that the color will fade. Are review the PAA Quantum in the future?
The T2 is too expensive for what it is. I feel like Rockwell just needs to avoid tto razors.
The Quantum, absolutely! I'll put it on my list, I want to do all of my PAA razors.
Have a good one brother!
👍👍
🙏
How would you compare the Rockwell 6s to Tatara Nodachi?
Hey Robert, I don't have the Tatra. I've always wanted it though.
Have a good one!
Owning all three of the Tatara razors, all I can say is…pull the trigger they are phenomenal razors. If you want a one and done the Muramasa is adjustable, Masamune is on the Milder side, similar to a Feather As-D2 and the Nodachi is on the aggressive side. Top cap and base plates are interchangeable between the Nodachi and Masamune for a tailored blade gap/aggression level.
When using an Adjustable razor, should you use a lower setting/plate for the first pass and increase setting/plate for the second pass or vice versa (R4 for first pass R5 second pass?)?
My 6C also looks very similar to yours on the plating coming off. Does that mean it’s now prone to rusting easily?
Negative, rust shouldn't be an issue. If you ever notice any please let me know. But it shouldn't be an issue, I think there is another layer of plating beneath the Gun Metal.
Love my 6S and like you I have settled on plate 4 as my preference. In your opinion what is another great razor that has the blade gap of plate 4 of the 6S? I haven't bought another razor because I'm worried about not matching that plate 4 blade gap of the 6S
A lot of Razors have a similar gap. The gap on plate 4 is .024. The gap on a regular Flare Tip for example is .025. But, of course blade angle and exposure are slightly different. What other Razors do you have?
@@Tobins_throwbacks Believe it or not have 2 6s and 1 6c. Lol. Was looking into the rex envoy. Looks nice. Do you have that one? Whats your favorite razor with that gap?, I know you must have so many
@@Tobins_throwbacks Saw your review of the rex envoy last month. You sold it to me, gonna wait for that black Friday deal. Thanks
What does "VS" mean as seen in the thumbnail image for the video? You talked about some razors, and the 6C, the 2C, and the 6S, but you said nothing about any VS. Was that supposed to mean, maybe, "versus"?
Correct, I never used the word versus in the video.
I discussed throughout the video the similarities and differences between the 6S and 6C. So the "VS" is shorthand for the differences and similarities between the S and C. One similarity
example would be how I discussed that the gaps, exposure, and angles are the same.
A difference would be the construction materials.
Hope this helps, have a good one!
If I buy the two c can I buy the additional plates later?
Not that I've seen.
I don't think I have ever used plate 1. I do love plate two for head shaves. If I have lots of time, I will do 4 passes on the face with plate 2.
Be daring, give plate 1 a go 😊
@@Tobins_throwbacks I did. 4 passes and still had enough growth for two passes on plate two🤣🤣🤣
Alignment of 6C is not good. It's great. You are just showing it wrong. When tightening the handle, you need to apply little pressure to ONE of blade tabs. This way blade holes are perfectly autoaligned to cap pins. Exposed blade tabs and round top cap pins are perfect way to align even imperfect blades. Yeah, Gillette created the perfect way to align a blade on his first attempt with Old Type. All later 'improvements' just made alignment worse.
He didn't say it couldn't be aligned... I think you just made his point for him. His key word was HOW easily..... it wasn't a demonstration video
@AdamBarbara Correct , all he meant was how much effort was required. And I agree with him. The tolerances are good but not great.
@@BrettJennings-gw6kb Yes, it is possible to have misaligned blade on 6c/6s. Earlier I also experienced same problem of edges having different aggression, just like it was shown in a video. However, with proper blade loading technique, it is very easy to achieve 100% perfect alignment every time with no extra second spent for alignment. Key razor properties to make that possible - exposed blade tabs and round top cap pins
