Willie Nelson wrote this. Fun fact is that his 1st draft lyric wasn't "crazy", it was "stupid." He wrote it to be much faster but Patsy definitely made it her own. An absolute classic.

'Patsy Cline' is the official Patsy Cline channel. And yes, she crossed over to the pop charts with 'Crazy' and 'I Fall to Pieces". Willie Nelson wrote this. About a month before recording this Patsy was in a head on car crash, resulting in fractured rib and scars on her forehead from breaking the winshield. The headband covers the scars.

Patsy died in a plane crash, she was only 30y/o. She was only in music for 8 years, she had writers, but she did co-write 2 songs. Patsy was country, but at least one song made the pop charts.

I believe this is a song Willie Nelson wrote, he's written so many songs for so many other people. Patsy and Loretta Lynn were best friends. She passed away in a plane crash, but yes she had been in a car wreck previous to this performance. She's Got You, I Fall To Pieces, Walkin After Midnight are other big ones of hers. Loretta Lynn's big song is Coal Miner's Daughter.

Patsy Cline was one of the great female country singers, and she did cross over to the pop charts with this song. Unfortunately she was killed in a plane crash in 1963. You should also listen to Leann Rimes and her song Blue. She sounds a lot like Patsy Cline.

Great reaction...love how she stands there, barely moving, and lets that wonderful voice do all the work. Couldn't agree with you more. One of the few places I see younger people actually smiling these days is when they are reacting on UA-cam to music that was popular decades before they were born. Makes me think if someone wants to change their outlook on life one step they might take is changing the music they listen to.

Patsy Cline had, in my opinion, one of the greatest female voices of all time. Her death at such a young age was a real tragedy. She truly had the potential to become one of, if not the, most successful female artists of all time.

I love her even though she was way before my time. I love her so much. She died a long time ago at 33 years old at the top of her game. She was called country but she had so much soul in her voice that you couldn't put her in that box. She's put me into a peaceful sleep many a night. Just something about her voice is really peaceful, even if it's a breackup song. ❤

I grew up listening to my grandparents play this stuff. Not like a recording, but they just played instrumental versions of things, neither sang well, but keyboard and bass work well for most things. Without throwing shade at newer artists, this was the era when you had to be skilled at vocals in order to actually get big.

  • @robertgieseler1220

Just an excellent comment with a many truths, if that makes sense.
BTW, I learned that Patsy Cline indeed had been in a car accident shortly before this recording, where she broke her ribs and had head injuries for which reason she wore that headband. Making things even more tragic, she only lived to be 30 years old as she died in a plane crash.
It's great that you are paying tribute to her with your reaction.
All the very best from Germany

If you have seen FIELD OF DREAMS, you heard the song when Kevin's character was in the store--it sounds like Patsy, but it was Beverly D'Angelo. Beverly sounded VERY much like Patsy and portrayed her (doing her own singing) in COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER. She SHOULD have played the role in the movie SWEET DREAMS, but they stupidly went with Jessica Lange. Beverly was so good in Coal Miner's Daughter.

To be fair, drugs were rampant in the music industry from the 1960s onward and probably before.
One of my favorite artists even as a kid in the 70s has always been the soulful Gladys Knight. "Neither One of Us" and "Midnight Train to Georgia" are two I think you would love. I think you would really love all of Gladys Knight's discography.
Authenticity comes with vulnerability. Singing about love, devotion, pain, heartache, sadness, loneliness, are all about vulnerability and come from the heart or the soul, the things in life that really leave a mark. Those types of songs were very popular in the 60s, 70s, and into the 80s. Beginning in the late 80s, R&B, Adult Contemporary, Country, among others began to shift away from that in favor of more pop oriented hits. Today, it's the rare artist that sings about these kinds of topics and even more rare for such a song to become a huge hit today, Chris Stapleton comes to mind.

You are close....she sang this right after the car accident....hence the head band to cover her wounds. The Jordanaires are the back up singers and they were used by Elvis. 1961 The talent back then WORKED their way up. The Beatles needed to go to Germany and play everyday and that helped them meld into the group they became.

Patsy recorded this AFTER her near-fatal car accident. She hated Willie Nelson's demo, but was eventually convinced to record it by her producer Owen Bradley (a legend in his own right). When it came time to record it, her ribs were still too bruised to properly hit those high notes, they band recorded the track w/o her. She came back 2 weeks later and overdubbed the vocal you hear in this recording in one take.

My cut off date for when music fell off the cliff was the 1990s. I switched from listening to pop to country exclusively because rap started inundating the Pop radio stations and I just couldn’t abide it. While it might be music, there’s certainly very little singing involved in rap. But I think that happens every generation, the folks who liked the big band stylings, was not very happy with the new rock ‘n’ roll music, etc. So my generation who grew up with beautiful voices, lovely melodies, awesome beats and great harmonies, just couldn’t adapt to the new sound. 🤷‍♀️ Just the way of the world, I guess.

They had to KNOW MUSIC, today, the get a stupid computer to give them a beat or steal it from an old group, or did for years until the modern acts started getting sued. Most modern singers have no clue how to form or write songs, with music, anyone can write lyrics, but putting them to music is a totally different enterprise.
