I used to wear a gas mask during the Gulf was when I was 10 years old in Israel, as kids we used to decorate the gas mask box as we were forced to take it with us everywhere, so we treated it like a handbag... :)
How do you feel the M-15 compares to the USA M-40-A1. I wore the M40 in the US army and while it was an effective mask against the chemical agents we trained with (tear gas), it the system seems a bit complex to me. What are your thoughts on it? Do you think the M40-A1 is over-engineered?
Not gonna lie, while I have a few ideas on what one of these would be useful for in terms of practicality, I'm glad to know these cheap gasmasks aren't utter garbage and/or dangerous surplus.

I recently received the M15 mask secondhand as a birthday present from a friend. It came with a small white plastic cup about an inch and a half deep with 40mm male threads. It fits into the threaded hole where the filter would go normally. There's a small hole maybe half a centimeter wide in the center of the cup. Do you know what that might be?
I got a Shalon 4a1 but I suspect its a knock off. Air seeps through the cap where the drinking tube connects, there is no gasket and the entire port is all plastic no metal clamps like yours has. How can you determine a knock off from the real Israeli mask?
pitbull32052 glasses work well with the m15. Because the corners of the glasses will lock into the curves of the eye pieces. I removed the ear hooks so its just the front of the glasses. I only have the front part of the glasses in my mask. I wrapped tape on the bridge so it stays flat in the mask. Once u put on the mask ur glasses will fit in the correct position. But it may vary with the size of ur glasses, I’m using an old pair that happens to be the right fit.

Going onto a new subject, the standard issue German gas mask in WWI (can't find a designation unfortunately) has a strange six point frame installed behind both eye pieces. Ah, thank you. Certainly shows the technological advancements in mask designs. I'm thinking of making replicas of vintage respirators and gas masks that are safe to use. Basically without the chemicals or asbestos in the filter so people can wear them without any concern.
Do you know where the size is marked on the mask? Bought one that claims to be size 1 - ie. large adult on the scale 3 small, 2 medium, 1 large and N for child - but I feel like it could have done with being a bit larger.

Hi. Hope you see this message, just bought a couple of israeli civilian gas masks, they should be from 2012. There is no markings on the box or the filter. But on the inside of the gas mask it reads 27/94. Does this meen its from 94? It allso comes with a light brown filter, and not the silver or black one. Any feedback?
The 94 most likely means the mask was made in 1994 however the Israeli filters were made in black, brown, green, tan and silver so the filter is most likely fine.
I found a web site that said the Israeli gas mask are NBC. Why aren't they considered CBRN? Is it not the filter that would make the difference or the mask material it's made of? If there not CBRN what would be a good CBRN mask at a reasonable price? Thanks.

How can I tell if I have the child's or adult size 4a1? Mine seems to be way too small for me. If I get my chin into it, my eyes just peer out the top of the lenses, the cup doesn't actually touch my nose and my face doesn't so much fit into it so much as it sits against the front of my face. Trying to figure out if I was given the wrong size by mistake or I just have a freakishly big noggin

The rubber was like rotting , a piece of a voice diahrpam was missing, and the thing seemed crushed, like it was underneath a bunch of weight or something in storage. Also when I was wearing it one day the fucking harness snapped off and it's unwearbable now. I need to buy another one.

Cool, as for your friend wearing an old mask and getting a painful face, lots of old masks have weird rubber so I would not really advise wearing WW2 masks.

Yeah sounds like the mask is torn or the valve is broken, if the valve is broken you may be able to find a replacement online, if the rubber is torn you need a new mask.

Junior Escamilla be careful with amazon. A lot of people selling fakes especially right now. As far as the model 4 is that’s about it. As long as it maintains a good deal you should be fine. Just make sure the filters are rated for whatever you need and are not expired

The hood thing is being produced now, But they did give out gas masks the last time there was a chemical threat (I still have a few at home) I think they tried using the hood, thought it wasn't good enough and are now optimizing it for civilian use
Interesting, as long as you have a blower unit hoods would generally work fine, issue is if you hand out masks to civilians I guess they need to be as easy to use as possible.

I’ve bought a civilian model and everything I put it on, I inhale something and I get a metal taste in my mouth, and I have a hard time breathing after wearing it, well that’s where I am now anyway, maybe I haven’t washed it probably or perhaps some dust got into it from the production line, but I would really appreciate an answer

After a big bowl of chili, I wear one for a few hours. Then I give the "all-clear".

The GM15 onwards, to reinforce the frame of the mask, because the honeycomb frame kept the glass from beaking.

Expired NBC filters still block particles, as only the charcoal section expires.

Does the oral-nasal cup inside not fit you properly or is it damaged?
Normally the mask can't fog up because the hot air is forced out the mask.

Search RD40 filters into eBay or Amazon and you should be able to get standard 40mm filters for reasonable prices.

I’ve bought a civilian model and everything I put it on, I inhale something and I get a metal taste in my mouth, and I have a hard time breathing after wearing it, well that’s where I am now anyway, maybe I haven’t washed it probably or perhaps some dust got into it from the production line, but I would really appreciate an answer

The mask won't work without the filter on it.
Weaponsandstuff93 I know that, but the inside of the mask itself was dusty or covered with something that I inhaled and ruined my breathing, I’m much better now, but I’m still going to a clinic right now to make sure everything is fine
No idea I've never used a mask that's caused problems like that
im curious even if it may not be possible what do you think would happen if you sneezed in a gas mask
Voltenic I've done it, it's a mess but really not so bad. My Gunney puked in his mask when he went through the gas chamber the first time.
It comes mostly out the exhale port.
I'm missing my exhale valve and the outer plastic cover on my 4A1. Is there anywhere I can buy these parts?
Exhale valves can be easily replaced with normal umbrella valves you can find online or hardware stores.
If you breathe in non-contaminated air with the filter does it use it up
Yes but slowly as there is always odours and dust in the air
the second one you talked about not the civilian one but the other does it have a water tube?
Both have drinking tubes, they are in the same place on both masks, left cheek facing you, right cheek when worn.
I have the shalon 4a1 or 481, don't know what it was called from memory and it has cloth straps, not rubber, does that mean its cheaper?
No it was just made at a different time, the 4a1 has been in production for around 40 years, so the design has changed over time.

Yes I believe it uses a unique straw/canteen combination.
