Yea, it also pains me to see the condition he keeps them in. It seems like he really doesn’t care about how they are stored. He has a lot of them hanging by the straps, ruining them over time. And then on his Mark IV Navy Diaphragm he has both of the filters hanging down, making it even worse. And he has them on styrofoam heads, too.
He pointed at a MCU-2P which was the AirForce mask since 1980‘s I think, there was a MSA millennium on top which he didn’t mean. Altough I‘m pretty sure he got that one mixed up a bit maxbe.
He needs to talk to a real historian for all he's spending on that stuff. He has some really great stuff and a passion, but he should not be passing along bad info. about such a serious topic.

I have had a gas mask before it was a 1979 soviet gp5 and I modified it to have black lenses but I see through it perfectly fine so all I need now is a flamethrower so the flames reflect off the goggles
My great grandpa was in wwll I don't exactly remember what battle he was in, luckily he survived, I never knew him, he died when I was young😭😭😭 the only thing I have from him is his picture with him and his friends in uniform.
I never got to meet my great grandfather either, he survived the European theater just to come home and fall into alcohol abuse. He died from liver or kidney complications when my grandpa was fairly young, before I was even born or my mother was born.
He's got good stuff, but... 1) first modern, leathal use of chemical weapons wasn't in 1917; it was in January of '15 @ Bolimov - on the eastern front. 2) He's all overer the place when it comes to which masks were used when The "Korean War row" is filled with Vietnam era and Post-Vietnam era units.

Canadian masks are very badly neglected in terms of research. I've been focusing on one of the two types you used in the second world war but, nobody, as far as I'm aware, has actually dedicated themselves to this niche. Sad really. You guys mostly used British designs and made subtle alterations to them until you improved on one design and then went completely separate. You'd be best joining a gas mask community on discord, reddit, Facebook or something..

Eh, other collectors have more praiseworthy collections Plus he’s storing the masks incorrectly on heads. This will cause strain in the masks parts and lead to their degradation sooner

He probably has one, but my Finnish m61 V2, a later and slightly more modern copy of the American M9, which itself is a later version of the ww2 American mask he showed, came with a filter identical to the ww2 masks filter but with Finnish stamping and dated from 1988. I found that interesting.

However...chromium was NOT an issue in the m17 filters though....the amount of hexachromium was FAR less than the standards deemed toxic for humans, it was a stupid small amount...you could literally breathe All of it, and harmless. There was even a massive worldwide study done, with like 5 countries, and it was proven Not to be harmful(and the study was Not paid for by the military or any commercial institute)........everyone should know this by now.....However I THINK the m40 filters did have some sort of Chromium leak issue that WAS potentially bad? Can't remember.
I have a german mask you dont have there, interest? ;D unfortunatly the nose exaust ventile broke..its one of the first made in Germany with a double layer flat rubber on the nose. You can see it on one of my first clips.

Poison gas was first used in 1915 against the French . The Great war was 1914 to 18 , not just 17 to 18 as some Americans would have people think.
