Been in the Chemical corps my whole career. I did 10min on a bet with no mask in a SPICY chamber with some PT in the mix. Definitely controlled breathing and just being used to CS exposure helps. But it tore my lungs up the next couple days. We have the new 53’s (one filter, 40mm NATO standard) but I prefer the M50’s. Dual filters, easier to strip and clean and much cheaper. Unless you’re in a NATO apocalypse you should be fine.
Put one on and go do some chores, go for a jog, whatever. Just get used to using one. I have spent DAYS in MOPP 2-4 and wearing a mask constantly. If you are a rich boi, invest in a PAPR system.

My dad was a industrial hygienist so he had gas mask and needed to test them often. He had this testing kit that would blow tear gas out a glass tube so you can test the seal and filter of your gas mask. You would break the end off thee tube and attach a rubber ball thing like on a clown horn. You would then squeeze the ball and tear gas comes blowing out the tube. As a kid it was fun getting my hands on it with my friends. We for sure learned how much it sucks to breath it in and get the gas in your eyes. I would stand in my shed wearing a gas mask and then pump as much tear gas into the sealed shed as possible. Buddies would try and stay in the shed as long last one wins. It was good times, till my buddie went home with his face swollen to hell, eyes swollon shut that my dad got a very angry call from his mom and shut it down real quick.

The phantom particles were way smaller and had a higher concentration of PPB. That would bypass our gasmasks constantly leading us to have to extract a guy while also hacking up our lungs ourselves. Their CM M6 is $264 and is very similar to the Cm M8 but have seen reviews saying the CM M8 is perfecting the Cm M6 Design and offers a water delivery system accessory so you can drink when in use. Was just researching these today and stumble over this vid a few moments ago. Talk about timing, lol. So far,.. nothing seems to be as good as the Mira mask. I remember when I was in the (Serbian) army, they issued us M2 gas masks. Then we had exercises where those dudes threw tons of tear gas on us. They threw some small canisters a lot like those you used in the video, but they also had some big ones, like a beer keg... All field was full of tear gas.
My mask didn't fit 100% so I did feel a slight smell of the gas, but nothing more than that, literally 0 problems. However, dumb as I am, I wanted to feel what's it like to inhale tear gas, so I briefly removed my mask... Let's just say that isn't an experience I would recommend...
I do remember that particular mask created a lot of issues if you were running with it; you simply wouldn't get enough air and felt as if suffocating, but removing it in a cloud of tear gas was also not a great idea, as previously established...

Pretty much any gas mask that seals will work against tear gas. even if the filter is expired (and was originally of high quality). Tear gas is a particulate. The thing with milsurp gas masks is if they are made of a rubber that degrades quickly you would not want to use it against corrosive threats. Its been a while since I researched it but Butyl is one of the best rubbers for a milsurp mask to be made of because its very chemical resistant and degrades slowly

Purge your mask instead of ripping it off in the cloud. Fight through the panic and discomfort.
Practice up drills with the rifle shouldered a little higher and canted to the left to reduce or eliminate a cheek weld. You will be tempted to press your cheek harder into the buttstock to get a good sight picture but that will break your seal and youre straight up not gonna have a good time. This is less of an issue with an optic riser.
Limit the gear attached around where your filter will be so you can look down towards that direction or duck your head without breaking the seal.
Try to breath out through your nose as much as possible to prevent fogging. If your junk fogs up, exhale a little harder through the vent like youre blowing out a candle to help exhaust some of the moist air trapped.
    Do more cardio.

The Cm-7m gasmask, aka the one from Tennant, has a narrower field a vision but is far superior for using magnified optics. Its actually what that style is meant for, having the two individual eye pieces recessed like that. It allows for you to get the scope much closer to your eye. Panoramic style masks like the other styles yall had are superior for holos and red dots, but do not work with most magnified optics. If your running in a squad that has a designated marksmen, you would want him using the Cm-7m so he can actually use a scope, while the rest of you use panoramic masks for a superior fov and target acquisition. That's just my 2 cents, I have no military background or nothin, just like studying history and tactics. I also own a Cm-7m that I got for $80 in pristine condition from a milsurp store as "issued." From what I hear, Mira gets them from the Czech military and refurbishes them, so there won't be any real difference with one you get from mira and one imported from the Czech republic. Its definitely not a bad mask, but isn't the best either, but its better than having nothing for sure, as I live in a big city, and with things going the way they are, a riot ain't an unlikely occurrence.

Fantatsic. I'm a collector and enthusiast for these things. I would've loved to see a more expansive list, a lot of the masks on here were either inferior to common and useful masks or way to expensive for general civilians. Would've loved to see you test the FM12, the MSA millenium, M50, etc, but the FM54 is kind of the general king on this list. I don't even have one myself but will one day.

Personally I think Mira is a bit disappointing. They sell Czech industrial and military respirators like the om90 at a steep markup to folks in the states without really offering anything to justify the markup. You can pick up the Czech om90 (the cm7-m) from surplus places for 105 bucks.

You pay more because it's new production. New matters because all rubbers degrade under exposure to military Chem agents. The newer your rubber, the longer it will resist.
This is why surplus millennium are 200 but new are 600 or higher.

Had a buddy of mine, retired marine & survival instructor, tell me all you really need is a 3M 6000 series (msrp~$80-130) then buy the requisite filters which aren't super expensive either. They have them for pretty much anything up to but not including radiation as it's an industrial respirator similar to MIRA. He also mentions MIRA as another option just they tend to be on more expensive end.

The 3m 6000 are great kit. Used one for years bulking chemical waste. Even the Chinese knockoffs can work well but always buy name brand filters. @@moshikito4717 you match them to your hazard. I dunno specs for CS gas but I would assume you need something rated for organic and acid vapor at the minimum, slap a particle filter on top of that.

@@Kiamors Right? 3M has a ton of filters for various hazards. The masks they wear in The Division aren't military masks either they look like 3M respirators so even games devs know you don't need to spend $300+ for good chemical or biohazard protection. The protesters in Hong Kong have been wearing 6000 series for long time now. There was even a few posts recommending what to wear during 2020 BLM protests coming from foreign reporters & students protesters in HK.

3:50 In line with your encouragement to keep current on our training, I'll just throw in a Quickie here:
If you have the option to install the filter (the canister part) on either side, be sure to attach it in the manner which works best for your kit when fully geared.
Yes, I'm saying to set it up so that it's good when you have to wear All of your kit at once, since that's when it tends to matter the most.
    Think of it this way:
It's almost always best to put on a slightly loose gas mask, and then tighten it as you check your seal. In fact, I'm sure you remember doing exactly this in preparation for the gas chamber during your military training.
It beats the hell out of struggling to put on a gas mask, on top of, or around, or in addition to, whatever your current gear level is.
So keep it simple, sexy. Lol
Make it deliberately loose; And, make sure you practice donning and clearing your mask, and then shooting (or, like you point out later, at least do your snapping-in drills, maybe some dry-firing) while wearing your mask. As you guys just demonstrated, it's a perishable skill.

The way my country’s army teaches is to tighten your mask yourself every time you don the mask for a threat. It’s a bitch to get it all with no visibility and a time requirement, but it does work to get good fitment every time.
