This musical documentary captures the elusive character of one of rock's greatest musicians: Rock 'n' Roll Hall-of-Famer Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix, arguably the most influential guitarist in the history of rock 'n' roll, is shown in rare performances, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage including such legendary songs as "Purple Haze," "Little Wing," and "Foxy Lady." Hendrix's all-too-brief career was cut short by a fatal overdose at the age of 27 in 1970.
Directed By Joe Boyd, John Head, Gary Weis
Starring Arthur Allen, Albert Allen, Stella Benabon

@@damfeller6978 You are close, but you're a half step low. "rayh72" has it right. It is "C standard" tuning. That's what all the sources say that I've found, plus I have "tuned up" (down) to it and it is indeed "C standard" tuning, which is down - "a major 3rd" - or, "2 whole steps" - or, "4 half steps" - a k.a. "4 semitones".
So, if you tune down that far, then an A note is the 4th fret up on the open 5th string, which would normally be C#. Technically A is still 440 Hz, but the "new C#" note is now an A note (440Hz). Don't ask me what the new open A string is in hertz, I just know it's an F note. But I leaned decades ago that he is tuned to "C standard".
But a lot of bands DO use a "B standard" tuning quite extensively. I've learned a lot of weird tunings from grunge, metal, and alternative bands. It can get pretty technical & complicated.

    • @We_Seek_Truth
      @We_Seek_Truth Рік тому +4

@@rayh72 Yeah, 4 semitones down. And I was thinking the same thing, slack tuning makes string bending a lot easier, even close to the nut - on the second fret.

he's improvising, on a new guitar, on the spot in front of camera, at the age of 23-24, truly amazing - you can tell his heart and soul was truly in the blues, he lived and breathed every aspect of his roots, - a truly truly magical man - what a musical talent - we should be so glad cameras and recording technology was around the capture him.

Jimi is one of my favorite artists ever since my teenage years. Its amazing how everytime i come back to his music i still find something new. When i first heard this i just thought about how cool his vibe was, how he played the blues in a unique way, but now its so obvious that this "cool vibe" its just him honoring and letting out his connection with his cherokee roots and the blues. Thats where the "goat" or "genius" magic is, when you are connected and true to yourself and the art you're crafting. And he knew that at a very young age, bro was something else for real.

After pre intro, at 0:57 the intro starts in 6/8 shuffle rhythm and then after a 5/4 measure of the first vocal line he switches to 4/4 straight rhythm with 8 beats per bar starting right on "...train..." and then stays on 4/4 but at 2:54 he does a shuffle riff in two measures of 2/4 within the 8 beats of the bar to remind you of the shuffle 6/8 of the intro. Amazingly creative even with time signatures and fluid rhythm transitions on top of everything else improvised here.

Well, I wait around the train station
    Waiting for that train
    Waiting for the train, yeah
    Take me home, yeah
    From this lonesome place
Well, now a while lotta people put me down a lotta changes
My girl had called me a disgrace
    Dig
    The tears burning
    Tears burning me
    Tears burning me
    Way down in my heart
Well, you know it's too bad, little girl
    It's too bad
Too bad we have to part (have to part)
    Dig
    Gonna leave this town, yeah
    Gotta leave this town
Gonna make a whole lotta money
    Gonna be big, yeah
    Gonna be big, yeah
    I'm gonna buy this town
    Gonna buy this town
And put it all in my shoe
Might even give a piece to you
    That's what I'm gonna do
    What I'm gonna do
    What I'm gonna do

The movie 'Jimi Hendrix' was released in 1973. There's a sound track album that went along with the film. Get it. It has tons of great live versions of his music. Including this without the shitty ending.
