About the whole "I will never serve" did by Sylvanas at the end of Sanctum of Domination Seriously: Sylvanas was the lackey (I agree: Sylvanas totally "SERVED") of someone called JAILER, master of DOMINATION magic, and his other lieutenant was a MIND CONTROLLED Anduin. And Sylvanas rebelled just when she listened the world "serve". Writing team, that was not an empowering moment: that's the proof that Sylvanas is DUMB as a brick! I bet that even the lowliest murloc or kobold would've understood that the Jailer was a bad guy, and his plan was to rule
@@Traumglanz I hated her in Warcraft 3 (we played as Arthas and she was quite an annoyance, doing her best to stop our advance). I was glad when Arthas reanimated Sylvanas. Then in TFT I liked her. And during Wrath, after the Wrath Gate and the Battle of Undercity, I hoped that she would become something like a (very, very) dark heroine. Then... She just become a moustache twirling villain :(
I have held, since CATACLYSM, that Sylvanas did NOT return from ICC, but rather something else. She was clearly a different character after Wrath than before. Shadowlands could have been salvaged if we had found her in Ardenweald, and the thing wearing her skin was SABOTAGING the Jailer in secret. It is the Forsaken and the not-Sylvanas breaking the cycle of life and death causing the drought in the Shadowlands.
I fell in love with h this series because there was this massive orc and ogre armada and elven steel allied with dwarven canon along with the unified tribes of Man… something something.

I am dreading that they WILL take this bigger. And bigger. And each time, get farther and farther away from the things we care about.
Nobbel: Kyrestia the Firstborne, the Archon. Video: Shows a picture of the Arbiter. If that doesn't demonstrate how dull Shadowlands' characters are, I don't know what will.
this was cathartic, thanks. 'I will never serve' completely broke me. Gave up on a game I'd played for over a decade because I just couldn't handle the dumb anymore.
Man, I love Nobbel's explanation of WOW Lore. It is my go-to for understanding anything lore related with WOW. So convenient. I often load one of his videos related to a region in WOW that I am currently exploring, as a sort of virtual Tour Guide to that region, while I am there.
For those who genuinely want to know what was up with that part about Elune, here's what happened (based on what we have been told which could be changed at any point regardless of who tells us that info because that's the level of storytelling we're in right now): Elune has the power to prevent night elf souls from going to the Shadowlands, their spirits instead becoming the wisps that are all over night elf areas. When the burning of Teldrassil happened, Elune chose to allow those hundreds of souls to go to the Shadowlands instead of becoming wisps. The reason for that was because Elune has a counterpart in the Shadowlands: The Winter Queen of Ardenweald, who refers to Elune as her "sister." Elune has some connection to the Winter Queen and sensed that she and Ardenweald were growing weaker due to a lack of anima, so she redirected the souls of Teldrassil to the Shadowlands in the hopes of their anima helping her out. However, at the time Elune was unaware of the Arbiter being broken and all souls automatically being sent to the Maw, but she has no power over the souls once they've entered the Shadowlands, so she could do nothing but hope that the Winter Queen could take care of whatever was going on.
I was half paying attention when the kitty cat started placing the forces on the board. Did a double take, like, "Did that say Trap!?" Then rewound and lost my shit at the Spell and Trap card icons.
The freeing of Anduin cut scene is an anomaly in the Shadowlands story line. All spirits go to the Shadowlands to sent to their proper destination, yet Varok and Varian are outside the Shadowlands to manfest and undue the Jailers control of Anduin.
It's almost like the people making WoW now don't know what they're doing. I think Final Boss will be Bobby Kotick who then tells us he was controlled by Asmongold all along.

Literally, I can feel this story was made in the last 5 minutes before the due date; just so bare minimum so that the professor doesn’t get mad at you.
Actually, this is the real hidden plot behind everything: SL is the expac where wow suffers their worst down, a death themed expac helps kill the game, and the Jailer is the main mascot of this all, hence why he's written in as the representative for every major lore event and character, and then killed at the end of the last patch with no elaboration.

Including the New things unvealed within Legion. We really need a fresh splash of good lore to reinvigorate us after being beaten down with this mess.
"Jailer did it!" Jailer is a retelling of Sargeras, except Sargeras was actually based on the Jailer. *rolls eyes Dreadlords serve the Legion, but actually serve the void, but actually serve the Jailer. "Here's a cosmology illustration of how the universe is balanced." Except Light and Void are the strongest. But actually Life and Death are more important. And the First Ones decided that death is the bottom/foundation of all creation, so they get the keys. Arthus was corrupted by the dreadlords, who worked for the Jailer, who had a Mourne™ blade made to control him along with the Helm of Domination. Arthus kills a fuck ton of people. Sylvanas was one of those people and was controlled by Arthus directly. A neat way for the writers to allude to abuse, I wonder where they'll take that. Fast forward 15+ years of writing, Sylvanas learns nothing and becomes the abuser, but it's ok, she's a woman and she didn't mean to and totally, actually, learned a lesson. Tyrande becomes empowered with her god's power, to take vengeance and right the wrongs done to her people, but doesn't actually do anything.
@@Exorion1er I see it more as his last attempt. There was a quest where we use our artifact weapons together to remove it. Unfortunately, Blizz had to remove it cause "reasons". Nonetheless, still a better ending than the next 2 expansions.

Blizzard: "let's center the whole story around Sylvanas from now on". Also Blizzard "let's make her a total idiot and a terrible leader with nonsensical motivations and hey just for fun how about a touch of genocide". Brilliant!
They made it all about one character, Sylvannas. They have so much existing characters to add or create lore with but it seems some higher up within the staff was into drama shows. . I feel that the "Shadowlands Lore" did the most damage.
Good grief. I thought I must have been missing something. I thought there must have been some missing quest chain that tied this story together. But Nobel knows everything about this lore, and even he can confirm that the plot is just...missing some parts. How could Blizzard make such an elaborate expansion, that looks so magnificent, and not have it make sense?
Actually, I would have loved if that "thing" was us. If the universe was created to be in balance, we (as player characters) are in business in effing things up. We kill titans, we kill old gods, we come to shadowlands and turn it upside down. Thanks to us the Shadowlands will never be as they were intended (plus we let the devourers everywhere). Like if there was a semblance of balance we are the biggest threat ever to exist.

The true World of Warcraft is the friends we meet along the way.
You mean all the friends that left in SL and BFA?
You mean the people that rage if you don’t play the class that the top100 guilds play? Or the guys that leave after a dungeon run is 2 seconds too long for them? Or the guys that buy boost and when you play with them they play like a monkey?
Hm not sure 😂
I played the game from Vanille till BfA but after wotlk just alone without a guild bc everytime you join one it’s just drama and toxic bs
@@NoztrozeR That's been my experience. Nobbel had major sunk cost fallacy vibes for the past few years
Only now, but then this current generation is guzzling down mediocre movies and tv shows and saying they're amazing. Like avengers endgame. A solid 6/10 in as far as movies go. Its fun and stuff, its just not great. But you guys all say its the greatest of all time 11/10. When you let something average be 'great' then everything else goes to shit. Like WoW, like star wars, like game of thrones, like comic books, like games, like music lol. It will eventually get good again, but its likely it will take something big enough to wake this idiot generation out of their mediocrity and 'belief' that being woke is an improvement on society and not a regression :D In conclusion, just watch movies, listen to music and play games from the 90's and 20000's and you'll be ok. what i hate is that the save martha moment can still be read as batman going "omg i am killing someone son, i am the thug that would have killed me if my parents didn't jump in front of the robber", in a very poor way, it is very baddly directed and written, but you can take a reading out of it
with the whole jailer thing you just have blanks, you have no threats, no reason why he did the things the way he did, we couldn't see his side of the story even if we wanted to (and oh boy, sylvanas loyalist wanted to know the other side of the story), no
it is just, nothing, a parasite of a character that was behind so much story and is just a blank of a story beat
I love nobbel still keeping up with the lore and telling us the stories. one of if not my favorite wow content creator for so many years. Keep being awesome!
I really like how when Nobbel starts talking about the First Ones, that graphic in the bottom left makes it look like he just blew out a ton of smoke from some weed. Really sets the stage imo.
About the whole "I will never serve" did by Sylvanas at the end of Sanctum of Domination
Seriously: Sylvanas was the lackey (I agree: Sylvanas totally "SERVED") of someone called JAILER, master of DOMINATION magic, and his other lieutenant was a MIND CONTROLLED Anduin.
YOU NO TAKE CANDLE!
Even in Warcraft 3 she was a brick. So that is at least consistent. ;-)

The saddest thing about this whole video? It's entirely accurate.
This dude is such a boss, I can barely remember my mom's birthday, but he just dropped a entire xpac lore off the top of his head
This feels like one of those things where you force an AI to read a bunch of stuff and then generate a story based on what it read.
8:58 Nobel summed up so well as to why i HATE what they did to Sylvanas's character so much. NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE for her character.

Thank you, Nobbel, he who can explain pretty much any WoW lore, in long, detailed videos, that I'm not crazy or stupid for not understanding (and becoming apathetic) about the damn story. I hate that I can't trust their storytelling (because no one's responsible - SOMEONE BIGGER AND BADDER is controlling everything). I'm glad that I'm not the only one confused. I am dreading that they WILL take this bigger. And bigger. And each time, get farther and farther away from the things we care about.
Nobbel: Kyrestia the Firstborne, the Archon.

If that doesn't demonstrate how dull Shadowlands' characters are, I don't know what will.
"it was supposed to be a really empowering moment, but instead it was really dumb!" is the best summary of shadowlands.
I wish he'd vary his intonation this much in his regular videos too, this is a lot nicer to listen to
“Any questions?”
Yeah like a million
this was cathartic, thanks. 'I will never serve' completely broke me. Gave up on a game I'd played for over a decade because I just couldn't handle the dumb anymore.
Side note, but I love the Human Female dance. It's so goofy like a mom trying to be cool for her kids.
There was a time, my friend, when all of the hot 20 year-old girls were doing that at parties. Ponder this.
I swear this is the funniest editing with pics and stuff and summary I’ve ever seen. Love it.
Man, I love Nobbel's explanation of WOW Lore. It is my go-to for understanding anything lore related with WOW. So convenient. I often load one of his videos related to a region in WOW that I am currently exploring, as a sort of virtual Tour Guide to that region, while I am there.
For those who genuinely want to know what was up with that part about Elune, here's what happened (based on what we have been told which could be changed at any point regardless of who tells us that info because that's the level of storytelling we're in right now):
Elune has the power to prevent night elf souls from going to the Shadowlands, their spirits instead becoming the wisps that are all over night elf areas.
Wow... That's... That's so lame im glad i never played wow after i finished Warcraft 3
6:25 my honest reaction when I think that years of WoW lore were actually the Janitor's schemes
I was half paying attention when the kitty cat started placing the forces on the board. Did a double take, like, "Did that say Trap!?" Then rewound and lost my shit at the Spell and Trap card icons.
That last spiteful sip of coffee just before the video ends perfectly sums up everyones opinion of the shadowlands storyline 😂
The freeing of Anduin cut scene is an anomaly in the Shadowlands story line. All spirits go to the Shadowlands to sent to their proper destination, yet Varok and Varian are outside the Shadowlands to manfest and undue the Jailers control of Anduin.
That “hello everyone” continues to put me at ease when stressed
Glad I'm not the only one

It's almost like the people making WoW now don't know what they're doing. I think Final Boss will be Bobby Kotick who then tells us he was controlled by Asmongold all along.

This was a great summation and gave me a lot of background, so now I feel confident in saying "Jeez, that story is fucking terrible."
Thank you @Nobbel for doing such a service for interested bystanders like me.
Warcraft Story at the beginning was not bad at all tbf! its just that the gameplay was more important than the story at some point and since not alot of people cared about the story to begin with there was no point in making it a masterpiece i loved wow lore back than but it really turned to shit and i can only imagine that is not just the people writing the story that is also just the way the game was handled in generall. if your interested in warcraft lore i can only say Warcraft 1-3 storys are amazing and i bet novel has alot of videos of the old story on his mainchannel :D

Didn't they made it clear that when sylvanas threw herself from the top of the icc and she died and went to "afterlife" she was scared shitless by that place and that's why she joined the jailer in order to overthrow the life and death cycle? also after she failed to capture that valkyr's lamp in legion and she couldn't become immortal to avoid dealing with the jailer, i think that's the point where she started to go along with the plan cause she had no second plans to avoid going again to the place that scared her shitless.

Hearing all this makes me want to delve back into when the lore of Wow was good. I would love to see a series of videos detailing the entirety of events wirhin the War of the Ancients. Including the New things unvealed within Legion. We really need a fresh splash of good lore to reinvigorate us after being beaten down with this mess.
"Jailer did it!" Jailer is a retelling of Sargeras, except Sargeras was actually based on the Jailer. *rolls eyes
Dreadlords serve the Legion, but actually serve the void, but actually serve the Jailer.
I might as well stick to Legion as a legit ending to World of Warcraft.
Just ignore the part where sargeras stabs the world and yeah, great ending.
@@Exorion1er I see it more as his last attempt. There was a quest where we use our artifact weapons together to remove it. Unfortunately, Blizz had to remove it cause "reasons". Nonetheless, still a better ending than the next 2 expansions.

Listening to lore videos is why I got back into world of Warcraft a few years ago but now it just makes me sad
From whispers apparently the story got scrapped 6 months from launch and they had to redesign a main story in that time
Nobbel you are a lore genius. love this
Actually, I would have loved if that "thing" was us.
