It's a surprisingly powerful gaming laptop wrapped in a very small chassis. There are several reviews calling out the G14 for its very high CPU temperature but in this video, I will show you how to easily fix and address the high CPU temperature when gaming on the Zephyrus G14.
It's a simple registry key fix that anyone can do.

As most of the people on the comments, I was very scared by the temperature I was getting, this is one of the best videos I’ve seen, directly to the fix and a great review
Just fixed my too
thanks man!
it's not really a fix, it's a manufacturing problem (laptops overheat and well intel does not help the issue xD), this only slows down CPU, lower CPU's frequency on it's base, less power less temperature, less performance although less noise which is nice improvement
I just love your content. Especially when you time stamp it 🤗. You make everything so simplified and easy to follow. I appreciate your work.
Thanks! I tried to skip to fix and missed the registry edit to show the option in power plans. Worked like a charm. :)
Nice man, I used this trick when I had the G14 and I've been using this exact method on the G15 to disable boost. The cooling is even more vital on the G15. With boost enabled it's taking away like 15 watts from the GPU and no FPS gain. So once disabled it allows the GPU to use right at 95-100 watts consistently.
between the G14 n 15, which out of those two do you prefer the most?
Does the performance chnage or any damage to OS??
Does it get any less hot near the keyboard?
@@rdz_2423 It helps some for sure. It's been years since I had the computer though so I'm not 100% sure. I now have a G15 Advantage Edition that runs a lot cooler / quieter.
I don’t know anyone who is better at conveying this kind of information. Thank you for showing the heat fix- you have just put my experience with the laptop to a higher level.
Bro does this fix the issue where the temp around the keyboard is reduced??
That hot fix is dramatic on my G14 2021 model. Went from low 90s temp to mid 70s to mid 80s!
Thank you Pare! ;)
how is the performance after the fix?
Why mine doesnt have "attributes" in the registry editor?

This is by far the best review of a laptop I have ever watched. Not only did you part by part dissected the good and bad of the laptop, making sure you don't leave any grounds open but also took your opinion of the unit and put facts and reason behind it. Not to mention you also addressed the problem. Job well done a thumbs up and subs well deserved. Cheers m8!!
thank youu so much sooooo much it really works ive got a G14 with ryz-9 5900hs and RTX and it was heating insane whenever i play froza and cod but now it improved a lot as before it was untouchable
using g14 now, helps a lot temperature went down after reconfiguring settings. Thank youuu!
you have really educated me on many things in this video.. thank you ..
Kept having my laptop shutdown, even with older games like starcraft 2. The registry fix you suggest, while also placing this laptop with a slightly better position for airflow while docked has dramatically helped it.
This fix is crazy literally down 20 degrees playing elden ring at almost max was hitting high 90’s now I’m at 65 70s!!! Thank you!

Thanks so much man i was worried there was something wrong with my computer but you saved me
Wow. Thanks for the tip! Went from 85 C to 60 C in seconds. I am not seeing the crazy boost anymore, but it hasn't impacted performance yet. So I will leave it as disabled for now. :)
hey its over 2 years already. How was your experience with g14? have noise and heat issues bothered you?
@@danielngo6037 I loved it. I just got the 2023 version a couple of weeks ago because Best Buy was on sale and now I even have a webcam. I could have waited for the 2024 version, but didn't feel like paying full price. :)
I had zero noise or heat issues and I work with development, so normally I have a bunch of things open at the same time.
I think a laptop stand will help reduce some heat because the exhaust at the back of the laptop also blows hot air to the bottom of the laptop and because of that the intake vents and not getting any cool air. So if theres some more space underneath the laptop the hot air would easily escape and intake vents would get some more cool air.
Nice job, man! Super easy, got right to the point. Earned my sub.

@@nehal0730 depends on your needs tho. I solely chose this laptop for its nice form factor, build quality, and screen. Apart from these, it's very similar to other ryzen laptops as well like the hp omen 15. in my honest opinion, the pricing of this specific laptop is kinda overpriced. I bought this Laptop to play Destiny 2 and Cyberpunk on the go. Thank you so much!!!! Initial cpu temps for Destiny 2 at ANY setting were between 85 and 95 degrees Celsius! Thats insane to me. Touching the upper area of the keyboard would nearly burn my fingers. GPU temps always 60s or 70s, no issues. After this fix, my CPU temps are between 68 and 75 degrees while playing. Thanks for the tip! With the temps fixed, I am very happy with my purchase! $1200 for the Ryzen 9 4000, 2060 MaxQ at Bestbuy
Yea I bought the g14 to play destiny and I had it for a year. My temps have been slowly getting higher since I bought it. Now my cpu Temps have been at a constant 95 Celsius and my gpu temps has been around 85. Should I do this fix or not?

3 years later and this tutorial is still indispensable ✌🏾
Hi, great video dude, I will try the heat fix in some minutes and come back with the results, I own this beautiful little beast since two months and the heat issue sucks, in my own very personal opinion it's not a bad laptop the size, features, performance and battery life it's a really worth of money, and to be clear the anime matrix (feature that show the animation on the back part of the monitor) it's a feature reserved for some models (2. Models Supported: ROG Zephyrus G14 (GA401 series and with AniMe Matrix™ Display supported.)
※ Note: Not all GA401 series products come with AniMe Matrix™ Display supported. You can check the label on the gift box. If it shows as [Eclipse Grey with AniMe Matrix] or [Moonlight White with Anime Matrix], it means the AniMe Matrix Display is supported on your laptop.) so be careful when buying if you want to have this, and this variants are more expensive, starting $3400.00 on ebay.
Update: Just applied the registry and power plan recommended settings and temperature improve just better, take note to adjust this setting in all the power plans so if you switch with Armoury Crate your performance profile this setting will survive to this changes, find below a link of my google drive with a regedit entry that you just have to double click to apply the recommended setting by this video, I take no responsibility for any issue or damage to your OS, I just export my registry key to make more easy to others to apply this configuration, you can check that this regedit entry it's not malicious by open the regedit file in a text editor:

very detailed review, good job sir janus
Every time I get a windows update the registry seems to reset so I visit this video quite often. Thank you for the tip! you're awesome
The heat fix was literal sorcery what a guy!
Bro does this fix the issue where the temp around the keyboard is reduced??
I bought this in June 2020. An I immediately found this tip and applied it. It keeps the CPU at 3GHZ which is more than efficient when gaming. The 4+ GHZ boost is what heats up everything. Although the G14 is slowly showing its age now with new gen mobile cpu/gpu coming out, it's still worth it as a mid-range laptop if you can find it on sale.
Does it only work if you are in the "Windows" profile under ASUS ARMOURY? Or will it work in Turbo/Performance?
@@0Ciju0 I honestly can't remember. But I believe it still applied to performance/turbo boost profiles. I chose manual instead when I game an set my fans on high all the time an just wear a headset. To get the maximum cooling while gaming for long periods.
Thank you for saving us all from this issue. But I have some questions, can you answer them please. First what does this CPu boost do? Second does it has any concequences after we turn it off? Third then what was that manual setting for cou and gpu ASUs offers through its app? Like we can turn on the fan at maximum speed when the temperature reaches 70°C
Nice review!
You deserve more subs!
thanks, this help a lot in reducing temperature when gaming. Previously the heat above 100'c which make me worried about my cpu and gpu. Anyways thank again for this fix appreciate it a lot
A really big temp fix. g14 2022 is an amazing laptop, but the temp is outrageous. This manages it to make it bearable.
Bro does this fix the issue where the temp around the keyboard is reduced??
Ive got this laptop 2 wks ago, to do my creative work, love the speed. and re the hot fix, the last step is to set the Processor performance boost mode as "Disable", then it'll be no more over heat, right? Thanks
How to do it brother?
You deserve a reward for being so helpful.
Tnx bro
Thank you for your time and effort making this video. The laptop is indeed a beauty.
Heat no more 🔥❤️
I would absolutely feel great to get a solution for pc cool down when gaming, and I'm wondering if the fan would keep noise up by default (before fixing in registry) even if the G14 is in idle mode?
Base on the specs you've explain sir PTD...for its me it was really good😀
No more overheating!! omg i was so scared when I bought it but you saved me. love you.
I tried this and it brought my temps down by a whopping 15-20 degrees! I was getting worried my g14 wouldn't last long because of this problem. Thx so much I liked!
How much was the performance affected from the temperature fix?
Does the external cooling fans help w cpu/gpu temp drops? And does removing the boost run any risk?
Does it help? By a super small amount. 1 to 2 degrees.
The only drawback for this fix is if you want or need more power, you will have to re-enable the boost. Otherwise, this wont damage your laptop.
Awsome, thank you so much. Very helpfull.
Thank you so much for the heat fix! I was panicking because I just got this computer and thought it was a lemon.
Literally just did this today because my fans would be on Turbo but the thing would still feel like it was going to catch on fire. A lifesaver for sure.
Thanks for the advice! I have the G15. Will the heating fix for the G14 work for the G15 as well? And does it fix the GPU temperatures as well as the CPU?

Abang abanggg👀
The cpu temperature fix got me interested in g14. However, is there any performance difference(drop) after the fix? Thanks 👏
Didnt notice any on the games I tested. And for other tasks, it still felt very smooth. And the great thing is you can easily turn on the boost again if you do need that extra power.
nothing I've notice on my machine
Great! I'm getting it 😁
omg THANK YOU! I could not find that menu under power editor until I saw this. New World has been cooking my laptop and I'm really glad I found this video.
Do you have the same laptop ? Bcz I'm planning to buy the same laptop ... and i'm not sure anymore xD
I'm subscribing to you for two reasons 1. you help fix my heating issue 2 you are a ONCE :D
There is another fix, I have the model (ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502 GA502IV-WS74), and there is a known cooling issue that was intentionally implemented by ASUS to encourage airflow over the keyboard but in turn, it makes the components run VERY hot. There are paper-like flaps in the airflow intake that are limiting airflow to the main components. The only fix to that is to remove them. The downside to removing them is that it voids the warranty...
So I guess I'm going to wait 2 years until I can fix it O_o
Yea i saw someone get rid of that stuff
haha yeah, the ASUS PR explicitly told me removing those films blocking the vents will void the warranty that is why I don't recommend it. I think I mentioned it in my G15 review from last year.
can this laptop use vacuum cooler? cause as far as I know, the exhaust on this laptop is in front of the screen and closed with the bottom of the screen
There are 4 exhausts, bit I wouldn't bother with any of those garbage coolers. The laptop gets warm but have never had issues with throttling. You can lower temps by 15 degrees by disabling boost too
THANKS MAN FOR THE FIX, THANKS A LOTT!
Thanks man, worked on my g14 2021 version🙌
The CPU fix is groundbreaking. My temps are so much better at around 80 degrees. Before they used to go to 95 degrees every time I played. This is how it should be. Thanks so much for the fix!

Greetings from Peru, I have a G14
I didn’t see a dramatic difference in temp but did give me some insight on how to go about fixing it
At 10:50 it still reaches 93 deg. even after disabling the turbo boost. I guess the tiny build of this laptop still not sufficient for cooling. Better go with the new HP Omen 15 which has superior cooling and response time. Still a nice review though, cheers.
Yeah, the chasis just doesnt have enough room for heat dissipation. It is great for quick gaming but if you're gonna play for hours on end, you might see a shorter lifespan for the g14.
Wow this is insanely nice my temperature went from 78-84c to only 52-55c

cpu temperature fix worked very well! nice
Just got my g14 today! Life saver
Really good advice with the temperature settings. Good job and thank you for the information. Indeed, this is a very good laptop. I have the Ryzen 7, but it runs perfect. The price difference was too much for me for only 10% PERFORMANCE INCREASE.
Im willing to buy but I am afraid of heating should I buy it
Thank you for the temp fix.
Thank you very very much that cpu tepm fix is the best abd eisest I have seen♥️
Anyone know how long this laptop is gonna hold up? I'm looking to buy one, but it's pretty expensive. I heard some compaints about thermals and such on this thing, but I assume the whole 'boost' thing is gonna fix that? For reference, I'm gonna get the ryzen 7 variant as opposed to the ryzen 9 one in this video.
Now that is something that no one can answer at this point as the g14 is relatively new. But all things considered, it seems like this is something that will last for a while. As long as you dont abuse this for gaming for crazy hours, you'll be using this for years.
Thermals are definitely not an issue. It can run a little hot but it doesn't throttle. It actually runs cooler than most other laptops
@@TopDownTech what about now?
I applied the fix but I am still running hot and my fans constantly kick in. They are very loud, any idea what might be going on?
What profile are you on the armoury crate? Also, what temps are you getting so far?
@@TopDownTechThanks for replying! I actually was not aware of armoury crate until you mentioned it. I checked and it was set to performance mode, and the temperature hovers around 55-70 degrees celcius. I changed it to silent mode and it hovers around 70-90 degrees celcius. So I was wrong, the fix definitely helped the temperature and the fans are much quieter in silent mode but still noisy. I guess it just is a noisy laptop.
@@Jordansupreme so silent mode is better?

NICE REVIEW AGAIN SIR! EXCITED ULIT AKO SA NEW VIDEOO MOOO
Just to clarify, you said "the boost is always on" but that isn't technically true. The CPU's ability boost is always on. I think it's important to explain to everyone that this fix is just disabling the CPU's boost ability, so no matter what you do the CPU isn't going over it's stock speed. More speed requires more power, more power generates more heat. Not sure i'm a fan of paying $1500 for a laptop and then having to gimp it. From everything I've read so far, a lot of peoples temps on this laptop seem to be all over the place. I'm currently running the Ryzen 9 model (on turbo mode) and have been throwing multiple burn in tests at it for the past few days. I think I've hit a max of 92C so far. It gets there fairly quickly but then it appears the fans do a pretty good job of getting those temps down to about 80C and keeping it there for over 15 minutes (before the tests end). I'm still going to test some more but I think everyone should probably run their own tests before gimping your CPU.
Yeah, thanks for clarifying that. You are correct John, the boost ability is indeed on. I should've been more specific in saying that the boost is always on when playing games.
And that is correct, this so-called "fix" aka gimping, is only for those who are actually having scary temps.
Maybe you live in a cooler place perhaps or have great ambient temps?
But for warmer climates, the G14 hits 100°C easily when gaming.
Great input though and something people should consider.
@@TopDownTech Perhaps, good point on that. Ambient temps will play a big role.
i think you should consider replacing its thermal paste with a Liquid metal. it would improve its cooling by 8% . it's an expensive paste but i think it will be worth it. imagine a turbo boosted cpu with only 80c max temp only.
