    Lula getting her up grades I love it. Glad you decided to replace that tank. It needed to be. The Sir Shocks are a plus for the car. Richard has got you wrenching on this old Iron. Loved it Christina. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Terry! It was a lot of fun! I've been begging for 4 months to install the exhaust system 🙂 Kind of like a small child. If they ask 1000 times adults normally say yes so they don't have to hear them keep asking 🤣

    Hi Richard & Christina. Hello from stormy Scotland.
    That was an excellent video, and you guys achieved a lot. Special praise to Christina for getting underneath the car to remove the old gas tank. I can certainly think of more pleasant ways to spend an afternoon. Also changing a wheel , and lifting the replacement onto the studs is a heavy process, so take a bow Christina, that was brave of you to try it, and I hope you are enjoying the whole process of getting Lula roadworthy.
    I’m sure driving the car will give you greater pleasure and self satisfaction, given all the hours and effort you have both put into it.
    Take care,
    John

      Hello John,
      Thank you for your kind words. It's hard to believe 15 months have passed since Lula first arrived. We're fortunate in that fate intervened, if only for a few months, and forced us to slow down, re-evaluate and spend more time at home. Big changes coming soon! Stay tuned 😉
      As always...thanks for watching.

    Awesome work! Soon Lula will be back on the road again! 😎 I've seen mechanics take the wheel bearings and literally push them into the grease and pull them back out. 😅😅 It seems to be pretty effective, but funny nevertheless. Great job, Richard and Christina!! Thank you for sharing!! Keep up the great work!!

I also love to see you correct Richard or throw out ideas and give Richard pointers. Chip your nail? As a guy, I have to cut my nails right down down to the pink. When I worked on cars, my finger nails always ripped and tore, so seeing a lady work on a car with finger nails gets me nervous! Good luck and keep turning those wrenches Christina!!

    Nice work - good to see you wrenching as a team. Hint: Handy-dandy Shock Remover Tool = Vice Grips on the shaft, below the nut - or a Nut Splitter. For the air shocks, Warshawsky used to sell an under-hood vacuum compressor that had an under-dash control for raise & lower. Possibly someone either makes it now or may have one hanging around. Lot better than the remote Schrader valve.

    I find that most of the time on these old Chevys a new tank and sending unit isn’t much more expensive than cleaning and sealing the old tank.

    • @whattherust
      @whattherust  8 місяців тому +1

      Right, from a cost perspective, it made sense to go with the new tank. The old one would have given us trouble for sure.

    Hello Richard, I was kind of surprised that the heater box wasn’t located underneath the seat like they were on some of the other older cars. Were your wheel bearings like the round ball bearings instead of the tapered wheel bearings like are used nowadays? I have a old two axle trailer that a large engine drive generator type Hobart Welder was mounted on which had the spindles with the ball bearings. I had a bearing to fail and I had considerable difficulty finding new bearings in which one of the older parts stores in Lexington Kentucky still had some in stock. Luckily I only had the one set to go bad. I was quite surprised to see that the Ross steering gear for the vintage Cub Cadets use the same type of ball bearings except in a smaller version of the wheel bearings. Looks like both of you have your car progressing nicely.

    You should use individual lines for each side on the air shocks otherwise you get air transfer on a hard turn that will let the car lean excessively.

    That cool looking ace bandage material on the filler neck might be asbestos as a firewall.

    Hey you all you can flip the spring shackles over for about 2 inches of lift

    • @whattherust
      @whattherust  8 місяців тому +1

      I looked at doing that, but flipping them on this 52 did not look doable. It is an odd design, perhaps because of the closed driveline.

    • @chuckelliott3894
      @chuckelliott3894 8 місяців тому +1

      Yes it's easy all that's needed is a jack and a pry bar take the weight off the wheel at the bumper install bar and pull it to the rear longer the bar the better be sure to block it so it doesn't roll
