Great info! Matt is an awesome photographer. I don't know if Matt sees these comments, if so I have a question about shooting in harsh light. Question: Do you ever use ND filters when shooting in harsh light? If not, why? Are there drawbacks to using ND filters?
He's using strobes so an ND filter -- which is typically used to prevent having to use high speed sync, which reduces flash power considerably -- isn't needed (the strobes have the power even in high speed sync). I shoot my dogs in my backyard and I use a variable ND filter because I use a speedlite and don't want to go above my Canon R7's max sync speed of 1/320 sec (which would then require high speed sync and a loss of power). Additionally, *any* time you put a filter on a lens, you risk a reduction in image quality.
@@stevemadrid6522 In addition to staying under your body's max sync speed, a VND allows you to shoot at f5.6 instead of f11 or f13 on sunny days. Small apertures are hard on speedlites as well not to mention increased lens distortions.
great video as well as other tutos you did. Coming from godox, what does a defocus diffuser do ? why do you need it here in complement of joel grims 65cm one ? i just purchased 90cm manny ortiz beauty dish.
do these FJ Westcott Strobes work at faster shutter speeds, or are they turned into HSS mode (I read that a similar manufacturers strobes can be used at any shutter speed)?
Great video! QUESTION: At 3:27 where you go from natural light to flash and darken the background for at more dramatic look - is that done by going for a higher shutter speed number? Thanks in advance;-)
I like his videos, very simple and interesting.
Appreciate the support!
Love seeing Matt's workflow. He's a huge inspiration and I look forward to attending his online workshop in a few weeks! Thank you, Westcott and Matt!
He's amazing, thanks for watching!!
Great tip to shoot both ways!! And Westcott lights make it so easy to change up.
Thank you for posting!
Our pleasure!
@@WestcottLighting Am i able to darken the background in lightroom or do i have to use photoshop?
Such wonderful information!! Looking forward to take a workshop with Matt!!!

@@45Supergun All those things are true, but I've seen many photographers use VNDs and or HSS. Just wondering why he Po referred one over the other.

I love the style and colors, what camera is used and was it edited to get such colors?❤
Sony. The camera doesn't matter that much: underexposing (looks like ~2 stops) enhances color saturation. He fills with flash,.

Good job buddy :) I liked the majority of them. I guess the power of the strobes is quite reduced with HSS right?

Yes! The higher shutter speed allows you to darken the background. Thanks for watching!!
Yes we always assume that girls always want bright and airy.
What were the power settings on the strobe lights?
Full Power for the ones in direct sun
