- Hello people !!! Today I’m unboxing and reviewing the NEKTAR Impact GX61 midi keyboard. A great piece of gear, surely the best in it’s price range, extremely easy to set up and feels like more expensive. For the piano sounds I used the Steinway model from the free KEYZONE CLASSIC piano plugin by BITSONIC AUDIO. I hope my review will help you decide. Please subscribe to my channel if you want to see more of these videos.
THE BASIC THEME THAT I PLAY ON THIS REVIEW IS TAKEN FROM ONE OF MY ORIGINAL SONGS AND YOU CAN LISTEN TO IT HERE: • Θα γυρίσει, δεν μπορεί...

Man i came here to watch review but I got impressed by your skill in playing! That melody you played was amazing!

The fact that you still help people after 6 months of this video upload says enough. Great video. In my spare time, I'd better learn how to play the piano myself 😛
Thank you for your comment! I hope one day I’ll learn enough, so as to have an electric piano with me on my live shows… Keep on trying. Greetings from Greece!
Great review Petros! I am thinking of buying the same after your review! Thank you mate! 👍
Excellent! The simplicity and compactness of this keyboard seems ideal for synth action, small spaces, budgets & mobility. Thank you.
Thank you for the no frills demo, and the delicious playing! I'll probably pull the trigger on one of those
It serves me well, still. I think you can’t go wrong with it. Thank you for watching and commenting. Greetings from Greece!

Excellent! I understand it integrates quite well across the top daw's
I can tell you for sure that it works great with Cubase on PC and Mac and with GarageBand on Mac and iPhone using lightning to USB cable. Unfortunately I don’t have any other DAW so as to try. Thank you for watching and commenting. Greetings from Greece.

❤❤❤❤
You play well enough! Good work! I'm also not a keyboard player, but I have the same MIDI-keyboard and thinking about to play some songs just for fun. Is this one good for practice and improving piano skills? What do you think?
Can you connect to a mobile phone and use its app?

Thank you for the video. What cables come in the box and what is needed to simply connect it to your PC/mac DAW?
You need only one USB type A to USB type B cable, which comes in the box. No need for external power supply or anything. Thanks for watching.
nice!

Thank you!!! Greetings from Greece!
I love the demo. Now I want to buy this keyboard because it's under 100$ and jazz painos cost an arm and a house.
Thank you for watching! I’m sure you won’t regret it. Especially considering the price. No problems till now. Greetings from Greece!
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic does it work good with FL studio, abeleton, etc.? Does it have it's own software? Can you play jazz paino sound on it?
Never tried it on other programs. Just on Cubase. But I don’t think there would be a problem! You can play with whatever software instruments you want, so I think you wouldn’t have a problem to find the jazz sounds you’re talking about.
Hi, is the pitch bend wheel on your keyboard still working well? I saw some reviews regarding the pitch bend wheel malfunctioning after a while. Merry Christmas!
Hello Dear Friend. Yes, it’s working perfectly. I didn’t have any issues till now. Greetings from Greece! Have the best holidays ever!!!
thanks a lot for the video. I'm intending to learn piano and decided to go with a 61 midi keyboard. But I'm confused with the various options. Right now I'm undecided between:
1. Nektar gx61
2. Alesis V61
3. M-audio Keystation 61
Nektar is the cheapest, but the others have weighted keys. Which one would you recommend?
Hello my friend and thank you for watching. About the quality of these three devices I'm more than sure and I trust all these brands. I like the transport and function keys that are bigger on the Nektar and Alesis. My previous keyboard was from M-audio and it gave me a feeling of robustness until the last day. You will not go wrong with any of these. I hope that somebody else in here with more "key" experience will give an opinion about the key weight. Enjoy your purchase and Greetings from Greece!!!
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic What do you think about Acorn Masterkey 61?
@@szymek9994 hello dear friend. Haven’t tried it, but I read good reviews about it online. I would choose the NEKTAR over it, because of the transport buttons which now, after almost one year, mean a lot to me. Thank you for watching.
"I'm not a keyboard player", then I just sit here listening lol.
But, I really am not! I’m a self taught guitarist and singer and I do everything by ear. I rarely use the black keys on a keyboard and my left hand is in a very very low level. Thank you sooooooooo much for watching. Greetings from Greece!
You are a good player!
Thank you!
Does the key make toc-toc noise? I am looking for a keyboard that has the least toc-toc noise when playing. Velocity sensitivity looks nice from what I can see.
Yes, there is this knocking when you hit the keys hard, but I think you could stop this by adding under them a long piece of soft tape. This doesn’t bother me so I didn’t think about it. I think that if you play on a normal level through speakers or on your headphones, you shouldn’t hear that. Thank you for watching and commenting. Greetings from Greece!!!
hello you played beautiful. im about to start learning keyboard and i think i will go with a 61 key midi keyboard. but im really confused. is there any difference between normal keyboard and this midi keyboard in the size of keys?
Thank you for watching and for commenting my friend. There should be no difference in key size between this and a normal keyboard. There are differences in the feel of the keys and in their weight, though. That’s why you see so many different models everywhere. I’m afraid I cannot help you with which ones you should choose. Ask a real player for that!!! Greetings from Greece!!!
Excellent information brother, which do you think is the best option, the Alesis Q49 MKII or the NEKTAR IMPACT GX49? (both without pads)
Hello dear friend. Thank you for watching and commenting. I find them quite the same actually. I had Alesis products that were of pretty good quality for the money. They seem to have the same buttons/functions. I would choose the nektar again for the looks. Greetings from Greece!
Hi Petros! one question how do you connect the piano to the computer? there is a usb cable or there is another device to connect in between? thanks for your video!
Hello Susana. Just a USB cable is enough and then you’ll be able to control all the sounds from your pc. You will need additional drivers etc if you want to use the other functions that are on the side depending on your DAW, but for simple playing of an instrument you just connect it and it plays! Thanks for watching my video. Greetings from Greece!!!
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic Thank you so much Petros!!
thx for vid. I bought gx61
Thanks for watching. I hope I’ve helped you a little bit.
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic actually your approach to play on keys convinced me. Thx for that
Hi I am thinking of buying this second hand so it won’t come with instructions. What software do I need to download in order to use with Logic Pro X?
Hello! I’m sending you the link of Nektar’s page with the support for logic. I hope you’ll have a great time with your new toy!!! Greetings from Greece. nektartech.com/logic-setup-and-troubleshooting-impact/
can you explain how to use the setup button ?
The setup button is used together with the keys of the first octave on your keyboard to setup advanced midi functions. Read the small white letters over the first octave to see these functions. I use only two of them, and I found the manual very clear with the instructions. Take a look at it first and if you are interested in something in particular, I’m here to help you. I think that just a small percentage of the users use these functions. If you don’t know what they mean, read about the midi protocol first and then you will know if you really need them. Thank you for watching. Greetings from Greece!!!
Did you used a sustain pedal? Also very well played!
No, my friend. No sustain pedal. I’m glad you liked it, even though I’m not a keyboard player as I mentioned in my video. Thank you for watching. Greetings from Greece!
i wounder if i shall but this keyboard. How is the feeling with the keys, okey or quite good? do you think this keyboard will fit to fl studio?
Hello dear friend and thank you for watching and commenting. I find the keyboard to have a very nice feel to it even after this period of time. I would be more towards quite good than towards ok. But as I'm mentioning in the video, I'm a guitarist who needs the keyboard just for recording. I'm not a pro keyboard player. Greetings from Greece.
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic okey thank you for the answer my friend!

Hello dear friend? I’m not sure what you mean. It can be powered only through usb if this is your question. Of course all the lights lit up when it’s powered. If my answer didn’t cover you, you can ask me again and I’ll answer soon. Greetings from Greece!

Hello! What do you mean if it’s too late?
Καλησπέρα..έχει μέσα δικούς του ήχους ή είναι μόνο midi controller?
Καλημέρα φίλε. Μόνο controller. Ευχαριστώ που είδες το βίντεο. Να’σαι καλά.
Does all midi have key response (if click hard it will soundhard , if click little it sound low)?
Most of the MIDI keys in this price category are velocity sensitive, but this one seems to do the job really really good for the price paid. Thank you for watching.
Hi, how is your experience with this midi after one year usage? Is this durable enough and built to last?
Working as on the first day. No strange sounds from the keys, no dead keys, everything seems good. The only care I gave to it was some dusting once a week approximately. Thank you for watching. Greetings from Greece.
i got the keyboard because of this video
I’m glad I helped you decide! After some months of using it, I think that you’ll not be disappointed. Thanks for watching!
Wow ❤❤❤
Привет из России. Спасибо Вам, хороший обзор, играете замечательно
Great job
Hi ... what do you recommend .. nektar gx61 or nektar panorama t6
Hello dear friend and greetings from Greece. As you can see by yourself, the price difference is very big. Panorama is more than 3 times more expensive than mine. If you are sure that you need all the additional features, then go on and buy it. For the price difference, you can buy a DAW controller from AKAI or Novation which is gonna be more helpful for your studio. You will only miss the better keys with the aftertouch. So it all depends on you. I can only assure you that mine is still working properly with no problems. Thank you for watching.
Thx for the response ...
I want to take a piano like this, you tell me if this piano is good or not, and also tell me why not.
Hi! This is not a piano. This is a MIDI keyboard. There are no sounds on this device. This is used to control sounds that already exist on your computer (DAW, virtual instruments etc.) after more than half a year, I think that it does the job perfectly and it is a very reliable and perfectly working peripheral. I think it will cover everybody’s needs. If you consider the low price also, then it’s surely a big “YES”.
Hi. Does is work with Cubase 5? Thank you.
I suppose there should be no problem at all. After all it’s just a plug and play usb 2.0 device. I don’t know if the additional controls (transport keys etc.) will work with an older version of Cubase, but the keyboard as a MIDI controller should work just fine. Thanks for watching. Greetings from Greece!
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic Ok. Thank you.
how was the touch? is it feel good?
Hello! Something between a synth type and a semi-weighted keyboard. Feels strong, well build and has a nice “return” on the keys. Thank you for watching!

I’m sorry, but I didn’t really get your question. Could you please ask again? Thank you.

@@residuerude8382 thank you for clearing this up. Obviously there is no hardware problem since the computer recognizes the hit of the button. Can you connect to the phone
I’m sure you can connect it on an iPhone through an Apple lightning to USB adapter. I tried it, it’s working smoothly. You can play with all the amazing sounds from GarageBand and record. Unfortunately I don’t know if and how it works with android devices. Thanks for watching. Greetings from Greece!
Sir, how is the feel of the keys? Comfortable or not? Does it feels simmilar to piano ?
Hello dear friend and thank you for watching. The keys are not weighted so they cannot feel like piano keys, but they do feel robust. If you want to be more precise with your questions, I will answer to all them. Greetings from Greece.
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic thankyou so much for responding my question. Ooh so it is
not weighted? I tought it weighted like piano because of the apperance😂. Is there any midi controller which actually weighted like piano sir? I'm new in digital music producing. I was just a traditional piano player
@@watchHalaziabyAteez I think that for your case, the best thing to buy would be an 88 key controller with hammer action. The prices are much higher, but they will suit you better I suppose. You will be able to produce your electronic music, but also to play a classical piece, whenever you feel like it. Some models are the M-Audio Hammer and the Studio Logic SL88 or the Kurzweil KM88. I hope I helped a little bit.
@@PetrosAntoniouMusic got it. So what i need is midi controller with hammer. Thank you for very much sir. Have a good day!

Are the keys weighted?
Hello Dear friend. They are definitely not weighted, but they feel much better than on a keyboard. I’m not a keyboard/piano player so I don’t think I can explain to you very good, but they have a nice and heavier touch. I hope I helped you. Greetings from Greece.

As a trained pianist who Lao has synths, I can assure you it’s a delight to play. NO, not fully weighted but with enough weight and responsiveness
