- This is a short video on how to replace your insulator coils on a 99 - 04 WJ (Jeep Grand Cherokee). I was trying to diagnose a rattling noise that happened every time I hit the slightest bump. After replacing my sway bar bushings I notice these were very worn. This took about an hour and a half and is not hard. Sorry, if I left out some steps but, let me know if you have any questions.

I’m glad to find this video. I’m replacing mine this weekend after trying everything thing else to stop the knocking noise in the back of my 04 Grand Cherokee.
I just did the upper and lower control arms and sway bar links with new shocks should have thought of this too.

The clunking noise may be from the ball joint on the center of the upper control arm on the rear suspension. I replaced mine and it cured the problem. It's worth a look.
I was thinking the exact same thing 😂 most people don’t even know it’s there.
Yeah the sway bar links cause a clank and rapid clank while driving.
Upper Control Arm Ball Joint that's connected to A-Arm and triangle plate does cause a clank if the A Arm bushings are Shot or the ball joint is completely done.
But the ball joint would cause swaying right and left while driving straight on bumps and shifts in road. Can also cause wobble in steering wheel.
@@Bulletz4Breakfast13 randomly decided to watch this video didn’t even need to replace my insulators but I’ve been having a problem with my wj after replacing the rear end on a budget. after about a month or two on this used Dana 35 I bought going 60-70 on the highway the rear feels almost like it’s swaying left and right like when a skateboard is going too fast down hill and starts wobbling back and forth. I’ve been trying to figure out where the problem is coming from but I’ll definitely be replacing the ball joint on the a frame. I knew I should’ve when I replaced the rear end just didn’t have the money at the time. Now I’m just dreading taking that a frame back out lol. Thanks tho!

same here. that rattling is annoying. thinking to replace the springs too. my problem is the 99 upper is a welded tube with cap. mine is completely rusted. may make a new cap is find similar dia tube like exhaust tubing. secure it to what is left there. don't see myself trail riding to bottom out.
Also, with those bad isolators the back end feels like it shifts a lot. hopefully they help.

This actually looks safer than using a spring compressor. My brother got his finger mangled one time using those things. It was his fault but still.

The 99-04 WJ has a D44A differential that is made from aluminum. Not at all like the D44 made of Steel.
I've been instructed to not jack up from differential to often. They recommend the jack points behind the lower control arms on side uni-frame bracket.
I'm replacing my coil spring insulators so I need the axel to drop freely while I'm jacking. So I'm nor putting the jack stands under the axle.
Cool. I check mine today they were completely gone. It looked as if they melted away. Very odd. But thanks.

that 44a has an aluminum carrier housing not sure id jack there.
Same probs here,! Replaced the Upper Control Arm in Rear. Still have the loud clattering noise over small bumps. Its been challenging to diagnose the right fix. Not sure if this is the fix either @JamesBenton describe the noise u had?? need some help out here lol
I have spacers on my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L, I want to remove the spacers frome the rear and front. I only have the $ for rear springs and insulators (Moog) right now, then the following month I'll do the front.
But I can only do the rear spring and rubbers now and want to remove spacers from rear. Do I need to remove front spacers as well or am I fine just removing rear spacers and leaving front spacers on when I replace rear springs and insulators next month?
Will the spacers make this "no spring compressor tool" method not work?
where did you jack the rear of the jeep up when the rear was hanging?
Is there suppose to be a bump stop on the bottom I don't beleive mine has one. 2004 Jeep-grand-cherokee

What noise we're you hearing before the isolator replacement? Right now I'm getting a almost plasticy light clunking sound I've changed shocks and upper control arm bushings and I still have a small rattle inside the cabin behind the rear seats in the trunk area

I have a 98 ZJ and i'm about to replace the front & rear coil springs with MOOG progressive rate springs, 2" pucks & Bilstein 5100 shocks. I want to replace all the insulators and i'm wondering if the ones you used would work on my ZJ. If they would, could you give me the part #s. Thanks.
Is it safe to drive if my rear upper coil spring seat insulator is going bad once in a while it feels like my rim wants to pop off and I need to drive somewhere

i replaced mine in about 2 hours and ... no it didnt fix the popping noise i think its the tank cover thing rusted to crap
My jeep bottoms out in the front..would the insulator do this or are my springs that weak?
sounds like you need bump stops in front...or it could be your shocks
