Check out my latest film produced in collaboration with LUMIX here:
• THE STAGE | LUMIX GH6
It's finally here! The highly anticipated Panasonic LUMIX GH6. Here is my short film produced for the official announcement.
After attending the pre-disclosure event in London at the beginning of the month, I've now had my hands on the camera for a couple of weeks and used it to put together this short film. It was a real pleasure to be involved in the announcement and release of this one, so thanks for the guys at LUMIX for giving me a shout.
As soon as it arrived a couple of weeks ago, I shot some test footage and could instantly see that this camera and I are going to get on very well. What a powerhouse the GH6 is. Genuinely fire. The footage has a beautifully cinematic quality, filmic character, everything that I love about the LUMIX look. But more to come on that...
As is the nature of this kind of work, I only had a couple of weeks to come up with an idea, plan, shoot, edit and deliver, ready for the announcement tonight. Initially it didn't look like there was much in the way of good shooting conditions for the foreseeable. But then my brother, music for film composer Life In Colour happened to mention he had a new composition in the works, titled 'The Storm'. Low and behold, a matter of hours after we floated the idea, the UK received its first two named storms, both of them in the same week (we actually had a third last night). So, the stars aligned, and it was meant to be.
The film was shot entirely on the GH6. We had to brave some brutal (if not slightly treacherous) conditions. In doing so, shooting this piece I have genuinely put the camera through the ultimate test. Storm force winds, torrential rain, hail, angry seas and sea spray by the tonne. Of course the GH6 took it all in its stride, and managed it like an absolute boss. Speaks for itself!
It was a lot of fun to produce. Very wet. Very cold. Pretty miserable and borderline savage at times. Working in these conditions is seriously hard work. But fun all the same.

I'd imagine this is what Panasonic was hoping when sending the preproduction models out to some of those Big "film" UA-camrs and all they do is go over the specs and show clips of their coffee or B roll xDDD where small, unknown UA-camrs like yourself go out and truly craft something MAGICALLY! I hope your channel blows up from this video because this was the definition of Cinematic! 🙌
Thanks mate that's very kind! 😊
100% spot on. This camera is meant for filmmakers, not UA-camrs who film themselves and therefore all they care about is AF.
Is everyone here as toxic as all of you?
@@MarcoBayod_MB it's not toxic if it's facts lol
@@Samiam-mu5ln this is extremely toxic, there is no need to mention what others are doing to talk well about this video, it's not their fault if this channel doesn't "blows up". This is Ridley Scott blaming on cell phones on why people didn't want to watch his "high art" medieval blonde Ben Affleck movie (awesome movie, go watch it), this is Scorsese saying Marvel is not cinematic and not understanding that people want to be entertained.
People on UA-cam wants to be entertained and Panasonic wants to sell cameras, it's so simple.
Stop complaining about what others are doing and if you want this to succeed, then spread it
While the internet whines about autofocus, this shows what actual videography looks like at its best. Great work, great editing and superb cinematography.
Thanks very much dude! 👍
Is it whining when it's a feature of the camera? Static shots are easy to pull focus on. Others, not so much. Be careful what you call whining. Makes you look pretentious.
@@GunnyNinja It's not being pretentious to acknowledge the ongoing blathering about Panasonic and autofocus. It's tiresome, work with it, work around it or find a camera that best suits your shooting style. every single mention of the camera and it's capabilities gets hampered by the ongoing autofocus chatter. Panasonic is not changing the autofocus, for what ever reason, chip, chip manufacturing, they think they can perfect their ideas, whatever it is and I am fine with that, lots of users of their cameras are, I used it as more of a cinema camera, these cameras by design do not utilize autofocus in most cases. I prefer old, many times, crap lenses, the least pretentious thing you can imagine. I want to know what the camera can do for me and in the end, just tired of the autofocus discussion dominating any other talk about the camera and its features.
@@GoTread Which do you think is more tiresome, still talking about not getting good autofocus, or still not getting good autofocus? It's great for you guys that don't care, but it's a feature that makes a difference. Even Nikon is trying to improve it. If I'm making a film, I might not care as much as when I had my 5D3. But I want a hybrid camera, and that is a feature I want. I can always turn it off when I don't need or want it. It is not unreasonable to expect a company to improve their weakest feature. I'm a guy who bought a Samsung NX1 when everyone was trashing it. Still maybe the best camera I ever owned. Just couldn't stick with a dead system. All these years later, companies still struggling to make a better camera than one that was too far ahead of it's time.

Good to know thanks
An honour to work with you on this one brother. Man was that camera impressive. But as this film shows, the old story still stands that what really matters is who is stood behind it 🙌 It’s been hell of a ride 🤘
Thank you for everything, unbelievable work!!! 🎥
Bless you mate. Thank you for working with me! Your epic track made it possible ⛈ ⚡️
Absolutely beautiful piece of music Con. love it. The both of you brothers doing what your doing is so talented and complement each other incredibly well. Such raw talent lads. Keep the magic coming 🙌🙌🙌
Half of this production is the score. Well done, man. Absolutely nailed the vibe.
@@TerenceKearns totally agree mate. It couldn’t have been done without the epic track. Inspired the entire piece. So it’s at least half!
Thank you so much guys. ❤️ You are very kind 🙏
This isn’t just the GH6, dont get me wrong though because it looks phenomenal and the specs are insane, but the composition and flow of this short film is what really stands out. Kudos to your imagination and execution of this magical display of nature and storytelling sir. Still trying to get the hairs on my arm back to normal 👏 👏
Ah man that's lovely to hear thank you 🙏
How do you think he was able to capture the wave splashes/water droplets in such high detail??? Most film makers (unless they have a camera with high fps) always have grainy/blurred quality when it comes to the splashes and water motion. What do you think the trick is?
There we have it guys. The GH6 is finally here! It's been painful keeping it all quiet over the last few weeks 🤣!
What are you thoughts? Is the 6 doing it for you? 🌩
Did you use Prores 422 HQ or VLOG?
@@samsay7954 Hi. You're talking about two different things there. VLog is the logarithmic gamma curve, a picture profile. ProRes is a codec. You can shoot VLog footage in ProRes codecs.
Definitely yes. It is a very different aesthetic from the 'full-frame look', somewhere between the "Super 16" and "Super 35" feel, and it's gorgeous. Pretty much all you need in a camera. And the 4K120P is just gorgeous. The way you've shot and graded is also key for the result. In conclusion, this will eventually end up in the MFT bag as "A-Cam" and GH5 will stay on as the "B-Cam" :)
@@vaidehiarts yep with you there mate 👍
Sold more on your abilities. Great work!
Oh, very good Story! Beautiful lights and colours. The storm, will remember this one!
Thanks Peter 💥
Our video production team has been using the GH6 for a good 5 months with amazing results. But this production is another level. I’ll present this video to them just to show them what is possible. Thanks a million for posting this. Our clients are very very happy with our speed of delivery and more so the quality.
Thanks very much. Hope it's working out well for you 👍
Crystal velvet balm, platinum vetiver woven into leather cashmere wrap, heavenly wet grass, I gasped.. as I rarely find someone who cater to my interchangeable senses where I see the scents and hear the flavors... that was a treat, so, thank you!
Actually this camera is the follower of the GH2 with the essence of beauty and texture that characterized the GH2. Beautiful image ! , thank you
Yet another gorgeous video! Looking forward to your BTS/breakdown of this.
Thanks! It's in the works 👍
Wonderful!
The colours, the lights of the sky in many different situations, the slowmotion never excessive, the focus...
The editing and the color...
An outstanding performance of the GH6 but, of course, if the videocamera contribution has been equal to 100, your merit is 10.000.
Very well done.
Very kind mate thanks very much !
Rather than complaining the AF, you did what this camera capable of. 🔥
Yeah that's how I like to do things man. Thanks very much!
Much better then most so-called "Cinimatic" videos. This is a real movie, great job.
That is some of the best footage I've seen out of the GH6, yet. Panasonic should use it to sell the GH6.
Thanks very much!
A beautiful piece. Just stunning. Makes me glad to be alive.
Thanks Matt!
3rd viewing...I feel like this incredible short is telling the story of the GH6...the calm before the storm, disrupting order, tearing up the path before us, the great natural reset. The Lumix GH line of cameras has done this on every release.
Haha yes! Love this interpretation 👍
The Perfect storm paired w/ the Perfect cinematographer to capture its essence. Well done! I just bought the GH6 and Leica 25-50 as well. Can’t wait!
Cheers Scott very kind 👍🏻
Nice one mate. You’re gunna love it 👌
My next body/lens combo. Just got the gh5 ii but want the gh6 now after watching this!
First minute looks like beginning from hollywood film. This video is stunning.
Thank you that's very kind. Glad you liked it :)
Simply Epic Stuff! Bravo
Thank you!
This type of video is what I hope to make one day. Your composition is some of the best I've seen on UA-cam. You defined what "cinematic" footage looks like without even mentioning it once. I truly hope you get millions of views from this video.
Thanks so much! Happy you liked it :)
Thank you all for the love and kind words. Very much appreciated! 🙏
Awesome video, one more subscribe
@@WillianPortela cheers man and welcome 👍

Thanks Jonathan. The specs and features in the 6 made it possible to do in this way, that's the truth. Cheers for the comment!
Well done. Creative. Captivating. Calming. A lot engagement in a short period of time.
Yet again Tommy knocks it out of the park and shows what this brand and line are capable of

I have no words to say but this is definitely some masterpiece that I'm not even close... what an art!

Simply amazing I just bought Panasonic gh5ii Looking for a lens for documentary amazing
I hope this was submitted for an award!
Geeeezuss!!! You could make my old JVC video cam look good. Fantastic. Looking at this incredibly beautiful production makes one completely forget/become UN-obsessed about features of the camera and see what true talent can do with a particular tool. The fact that the tool is the new GH6 just makes it all the better. Thanks
Thanks very much Keith 👍
Brilliant! A four minute clinic on how to make films. So well done!
Best regards from Stockholm!

Great to see this camera actually put to work! Better than some youtubers complaining about the auto focus and shooting testcharts indoor.
Thanks mate. Getting out and making stuff is the way I like to do things. Hope you found it useful to see.
This is beautiful, a beautiful depiction of a wild storm. Just pre-ordered a GH6. Can't wait to get it.

Hello. my English is not very good, but I wanted to tell you that I'm taking my first steps at 29 years old as a future filmmaker and I'm getting more and more into editing and others, I was amazed with your work, the truth is that not only the editing, but the story itself of each video is incredible, I congratulate you and hopefully someday, this life will cross us, I send you a big hug from Argentina, and from here I will continue to be amazed with your work. Hugs Tomas
Hi Tomas. Thanks very much. You go for it my man. I was only a little younger than you when I took the leap to go full time. Follow those dreams brother! ✌️
Pretty cool storytelling. I particularly like the wild horse footage...that's damn epic. I did want you to explore what it is about storms that draws us in and make us feel so human. Love the slomo clips!
