Once installed, there really should be a rotating yellow emergency light, like from a cop car, that goes off while it's in motion. Not *just* for the safety warning aspect, but *mainly* for the fallout shelter vibes.
I was just going to post something like this. Remember, it's supposed to be an Emergency Shelter, you NEED to be able to get in and out Without Electric.
I took “AG Shop” in high school in the far north panhandle of Texas and this was about as close to that as I can recall. Please keep up the videos and valuable safety tips!
I guess You Toob suggested your video because I watch that British bloke who is building an underground bunker/tunnel whose name I can never remember. Great video. I'll be back for more!
If your cable broke, it might break you. You can make two, quarter circles attached to the base plate, turned towards the main frame on pivot pins. Then attach a bar between the quarter circles at the top also on pivot pins. Drill a hole for the cable and a spring. The cable pulls up, the spring pulls down. If the cable breaks the spring pulls the bar down. The bar turns the quarter circles into the frame at their bottom wedging them into the frame. The more weight on the platform, the better it works. I think Otis's patent is past it's exploration date by now.
@@HerbOMatic I figured that you had forgotten lending it out to your buddy that had a jack, but just needed to barrow one jack stand to get the job done. And that was 6 months ago. Was thinking the same type of thing in case power was out. Maybe weld ladder rungs on the back of the frame so you can drop the platform and use them for access. Guess it would depend on how close you are to the wall. As a extra bit they may also work as bracing for the frame so it does not warp out of shape after a while.

If anyone was wondering what the lifts original purpose was. It was for racking out Medium Voltage 13,000 Volt Breakers in an industrial facility. That is why the front of the platform has hooks so you can latch the platform into breaker bay then roll the breaker out onto the platform. I have done this a few times for testing and inspections.
Remember on groove welds nothing above base metal adds any strength. You can grind all the welds flat to the top of the base material, as long as you dont grind under flush it will be just as strong.
Are you considering a fork lift safety cage instead of this cart? Not only would it be much safer, but it might add another few inches of platform height bringing it closer to the top so you wouldn't need to step down as far getting in. They have them on Amazon for about $200.
If you kept the bottom wheels on. You could clean gutters in the neighborhood, put up and take down holiday lights. Wait since I use a mobility scooter and can’t walk up stairs. Not really an elevator and made strange noises. On a positive note. Your bomb shelter is ADA handicapped accessible. Maybe even get a grant for your work.
A spanner set that doesn't include 17? those are like the most common size if you work on any Japanese car lol, standard M8/M10 bolt head size. 18 is basically unused as well!
I feel like at some point it would have been easier to just scrap the original frame and use 2 new pieces of c channel bolted to the walls. You wouldn't need the front legs/wheels, wouldn't have as many Weld seams, and could fabricate a new mounting plate for the hoist instead of using the brackets like you did
Be sure to add some hydraulic oil to your entire cable. It’ll cut down on the crunchy sound and if you routinely oil it, it’ll stay rust and oxidation free extending it’s life.

@@HerbOMatic haha I seen that later in the video I commented as I first seen the winch. But yeah a tensioner will make it wind up nice and neat. Good luck and keep up the good work.
More cross bars so it acts as a ladder when the power grid collapses 😜. Keep the hand winch and tools in the shelter to put it back after you have no power for the electric hoist.
I would have placed a cross tie every 1' or so to use as a rung to climb if for any reason you lose power or the elevator breaks and you need to climb out.
Steven, I was going to do just that! Then I thought about what if the lift failed above you, then you would have to climb around it. I guess you could cut the cable and let it crash down then climb out. I will probably bolt a metal ladder to the wall next to the elevator as backup.
Can't say as that's how I'd have extended it, but hopefully it works ling term. I'd have just gotten new uprights of the right length and added them in front of the existing, thereby further stiffening the structure, and allowing more space behind to bracing. Like a lot of others on here, I build shit for a living. So we are full off useless suggestions. I have built a similar set up for guides, or ways. Consider two loops from an engine valve spring in the holder behind your new “ Delrin” rods. It will put them under tension so it’s less shake and more controlled.
What happens if, while you are in the shelter, the wife rides it up to go get some snacks, leaves it up, and then the power goes out permanently because of the war and all the bombings and stuff? Will you have enough snacks down thee to survive?
Wanna get the rollers closer to perfect! Use what we use in commercial aircraft maintenance. AERO KROIL. And istead of using dirt collecting grease, use DOW CORNING 321. AGAIN, we use this in commercial aviation in VERY hot sections of engines where components roll, slide...etc. And I coat my bicycle sprockets with it, and lube by chains with tri-flow...but wipe off the exterior of chain...a process that makes the drive line VOID of noise and shifting like butter. Oh! The aforementioned are not sponsors of my aircraft and bicycle...nor motocross...antics. Motocross? Sorry. Yes.

It was a bit of a joke, I'm working on backup system incase of power failure, stay tuned!
You have an odd number of the jacks because you’re using one to hold the door shut remember??!!
Yeah that slipped my mind for the time being! Thanks Anthony!
Like a lot of others on here, I build shit for a living. So we are full off useless suggestions. I have built a similar set up for guides, or ways. Consider two loops from an engine valve spring in the holder behind your new “ Delrin” rods. It will put them under tension so it’s less shake and more controlled.
That's an interesting Idea, I wonder if it would allow too much rocking, it would allow for minor variations in my track. Thanks!
What happens if, while you are in the shelter, the wife rides it up to go get some snacks, leaves it up, and then the power goes out permanently because of the war and all the bombings and stuff? Will you have enough snacks down thee to survive?
could have made the cross bars into a ladder
A 3 pack😆😆
This video should have been titled: How to over engineer a problem for dumb reasons 101.
Motocross? Sorry. Yes.
Tell u what, in case of bombing scenario - you are dead, your elevator is TOO SLOW XD
I think it's like 20 seconds to the bottom, or you could use the backup ladder.
You and ThisOldTony must be related. Sound identical...dare I say you have the same hands? Lmao #ConspiracyTheory
Ah Yes the Nukes are coming but i gotta wait for a very slow elevator to come up and go down first ah yes.
Or use the backup ladder!
Just so you know safety first your skirting elevator safety big time a fall from 13 feet is often deadly. There is no safety preventing a fall if cable breaks there is no weight rating on that line putting any riders life at risk
Talking about reverse birthing videos, my daughter had a sex ed class where they watched the miracle of birth video. When it ended the teacher pressed fast reverse on the VCR instead of pressing rewind. They got to see a doctor shove a baby feet first into a woman.
