Colin, the best way to solve your elevator for the car is to have a round lift that turns 90 degrees. You come in at an angle then turn 90 degrees and drive out. Its the most simplest thing you can do. Lift up and pivot below. Things to consider when building a lift like this is who water will drain around it. Thought needs to be considered. The best way is to have the pad when pressed closed to be the catch pan sort of. Much like a ring around it that can fill with water and then a larger pan slides in under it to collect the water then that water is pumped back up to the street level. Its also very unlikely that it will be water tight. The main catch basin could have an open bottom to allow water to naturally soak up.
I know that this won't get seen, but a suggestion for the car lift. You could use parts from a hydraulic elevator to lift the car. Many of them can support 4,000 lbs, and a DeLorean only weighs 2,800 lbs (according to google). Then, instead of a rectangular parking area, make it a circle. That way you could build a turntable with a ring gear, pinion, and electric motor. No big tolerances necessary. The mechanical advantage of the ring gear would make it "easy" to turn the car. On top of the turntable, add some beefy posts that attach to a second platform which levels with the garage floor when the elevator is down, and flushes with the ceiling when the elevator is up. As a bonus, the car can just be set spinning on a slow rotation for display!

I too am one of the lucky ones that clicks on Suggested Videos from time to time as I'm sure a respectable number of others have discovered your work the same way! What amazing journeys your projects are, and this one I believe tops them all! Just the fact that you (or anyone quite frankly) could actually finish such a massive spunky and spelunky undertaking by hand is beyond my comprehension. . . Congratulations and bravo for such fine craftsmanship and a job so well done!
Sometimes it isn't about the what and instead is all about the where. Had he done some digging, laying concrete and welding on the surface it would have been average. But underground and only doing so when no one can hear him. It's way above and beyond the ordinary.
Well done Colin. There are too few real engineers out there at the moment but you are certainly a shining example. Your step by step explanation of your thought processes and back of the envelope design should be compulsory viewing for all 'wannabe' engineers. Passing your knowledge on is so important. lemme just say how much I do appreciate the fact this video is 2 and a half hours long instead of being split into a thousand parts coming every week or month until completion. Literally on tears right now because someone in YT actually took the patience and consideration to put all of this together from start to finish so I can bang your whole adventure in a single pass and prolly repeat in the future as with any other good movie I've seen before. Thank you very much, I love you.
See Im the complete opposite.. A 50 year old man acting like a teen with annoying skateboard themed music for 10 minutes but the project is cool I can handle.. This guy is so.. yeah.. I watched 4 minutes before finding a diff video..
Only Colin can make a 2 an a half hour video with no down time full of work music and fun been a sub for so long allways finds a way to do even Crayzer things love watching this guy lots of Love from Türkiye
Colin, great project and stunning amount of enthusiasm and effort!! From a geologist - your fossil is a fossil. Your Quartz is Calcite. Your leaf is stained Calcite and your "dissolved salts" are dissolved limestone from acidic water percolating through the formation. It is not unusual to find barren rocks with just a few preserved fossils (its down to the depositional environment).
Does his family actually still live at this house? I thought I heard somewhere that they moved and this house is basically just a big UA-cam studio for Colin, now.
It's hard to express just how much I love that this video exists. Always wanted to see the full process of someone making an underground tunnel by themselves even though it has no relevance to my life.
Colin, I'm impressed very much. However a suggestion for vent tubes. You should consider on top of vent tubes to do an upside down 'U' bend. This will keep any rain, leaves. wind blow dust or particles, etc. out of it. Also place a screen of some type on end of vent. This will keep any insects (bees, wasps, hornets, etc.), birds, squirrels, etc. out of tube. These creatures like strange places to invade or home in. Then do periodic screen checks, to make sure it's still in good shape. Just a suggestion. Also, one or two good fanned exhaust vents, with a few open and non fan vents, should cause the air flow to be drawn in with a good air flow. I enjoyed your video. Though a woman, I am a machinist, have own milling machines, and I too make and improvise needed parts or contraptions to work for me. Though it's a man's world, many woman are into this kind of thing also.
I would use heavy gauge rods to make a mesh tight enough for squirrels. It also works for hand grenades lol. Hide them as clever as you can. Also do heavy wire mesh for mice a little behind the first.
When the big BANG comes, as I’m sure it will, this will keep you nice and safe for a while. You will probably need a supply of oxygen and water though.
The fact that you managed to achieve this spectacular feat while considering your neighbours shows just how determined and kind hearted you are - many people would've just gone hell for leather, regardless of the noise. Good man!

This whole project is beyond my comprehension, the labor, the vast array of tools and equipment, the skill required, the incredible cost of material and the dedication to continue for 3 years without just giving up on the whole idea! Congratulations on the completion? of this amazing project!
I mean, like after working on it for a year, you kinda get to the point of no return. You either put in as much effort to give up on it, or you just keep on chuggin.
I’m impressed that the UK government actually gives you permission to do such project. Great work, most men want a fancy car and a super model wife, other men just want a tunnel under their home 🤣
The tunnel is absolutely brilliant. You fulfilled the childhood dream of every young boy ever. Such a massive undertaking, physically and financially. I applaud you, sir.
It's not a childhood dream for him, the whole video he talks about how he's making a tunnel so people will leave him alone and he can keep working without being disturbed by various councils or other forms of government. Also, he's listening to punk music the whole time. Colin is clearly anti-lockdown, lmfao.
I have never seen anything like this which is saying a lot considering the variety of content that is available to us in this day and age. I was left jaw dropped almost every 5 minutes at the level of skill that this guy has to master to get this kind of a project done. One of the best things I have seen all year!
I have an IDEA: The turn mechanism doesn't necessarily have to be underground. Have a circular disk turn the vehicle after it rises. Also, the roof could be retractable, almost like the way convertibles do it, such that when the car garage comes up, it appears minimalistic. This will allow you to insalll a disk large enough to turn two cars at the same time. Also, it will provide a place to park when you do not want the cars to be underground. Now, I want to see you build this!
well, it's just a mix of 20-30 min videos, so he just had to make those entertaing, props to him still, but it's not like he did a super long video normally.
Digging is so fun. It's possibly one of the most dangerous practices we humans started doing, but there is a reason we kept doing it until we eventually found a purpose for that (mining).
I can’t believe I was enamored this whole video watching you and friends make the coolest tunnel under your property. It was the most amazing build Ive ever seen! I’m late to the party but definitely subscribing and watching the underground garage possibly develop before my eyes!!!!

To be honest, I have been following this series because I want to see the house connected to the bunker. The tunnel so far is under ground that already has cover from the elements and nosey neighbours, but a tunnel to the bunker means you can get there and back no matter what is going on outside and without being seen. Getting to the bunker is 100% the next project I want to see, please!

Hey Collin, great job on your tunnel project. May I ask, at the place over the tunnel, what is the thickness of the mass at the thickest point? Also, have you considered Radon Gas. This is created from naturally decaying radioactive material in the soil. This is not a problem until you create a pocket, such as your tunnel. This issue is easily remedied by installing a positive flow vent, venting the air from the tunnel area to the outside air. You can test for Radon Gas hiring a company with the test equipment. A test usually spans over 3-4 days while the equipment samples the tunnel air. Radon is a exciter for cancerous issues. Just something to consider. Rob-
When I was working in confined spaces, we had these little yellow air monitors that would beep at you if there was any bad gas or oxygen too low etc. Think they were only a couple hundred bucks too
Yep, I use them for...anything, fluids, concrete, soil, garbage, mixing, weighing and so on. And they are still as if I bought them yesterday. Tip: buy different colours, you then can keep track of what to put where and you don't have to talk to co-workers. They are idiots anyway ;-)

“ONE MAN INDEED”……. 😂YEAH RIGHT!! - IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO KNOW THE OVERALL COST IN MAN HOURS “FRIENDS” INCLUDED AND ALL THE KIT AND MATERIALS COSTS…. could probably have built a small WELL EQUIPPED BUNGALOW.
Even if its just for moisture, what about the waterproofing? And the steel will rust through time as well - that concrete wouldn't have flowed around anything like all of it. Also for something like this with the weight bearing down on it, only structural steel should have been used not thin wall bars and sheets. How on earth would something like this get planning permission?
ive been following the tally ho boat rebuild (going on 5+ years currently) and id say that one beats this in terms of scale but obviously the bigger and longer you go the more assistance you end up acquiring.
This is the best UA-cam video I've ever watched. The time, effort, energy to makes this video above any I've ever seen. As a kid I dug tunnels through a large dirt mound which I thought was so cool. This is childhood dream of many for sure.
The amount of equipment this guy has access to is amazing. Idk if I’m more amused by the project or the fact he uses his machines to overcome the obstacles that comes with it. Makes it look easy.
I stumbled upon this video this morning, and I haven't been able to put my phone down yet!! BRILLIANT!! AMAZING!! your wife must be very proud of you. YOU must be very proud of your self!! 🍾🥂
Having watched the original series of videos and now this, I can honestly say the most amazing thing about this project is the miraculous plastic tubs that you used to haul away earth and rock.
It all depends..good ones are made of a strong rubber mix and are tough as hell..proper builders ones......whereas..you get a cheap plasic one from your local diy shop for a few quid and you will probably crack it and snap the handles off in one even slightly hard day.
I was enjoying the whole video whilst doing other projects. Often, I chuckled, but the swearing neighbor made the whole thing! He was so great. It sucks you had to bleep him out. Is that due to UA-cam rules? Otherwise, stop the bleeping bleeping.
I followed this entire project and I'm not just saying this, by far the best extended project series I have ever seen on youtube and I watch a LOT of youtube
It truly makes you appreciate how projects like this done 500-1000 years ago must have taken SO much time and so many workers to get done. This is 3 years worth of work with great modern tools & knowledge. The catacombs in Paris for instance, the amount of work to dig underground effectively is staggering.
Man hours. Get 12 people working 12 hours a day instead of 1 2 hpurs a day average... its down to 2 weeks. Have 4 teams of 12 on a project like his, starting on, or working on different sections, and youre down to just a few days.

Theres something both hypnotic and extremely soothing about this process unfolding. Very considerate of the neighbors to attempt to do this absolutely silent as possible too, a cool variable to add to this. A pleasure to watch, thank you for sharing.
With how far he is underground, they won't hear anything unless they're right on top of it. And he could just work when his neighbors are at work if he is gonna use noisy generators and such.
I concur with my initial remark that you are absolutely bonkers, but in the best way possible. What an undertaking. What you have achieved is beyond impressive. I am seriously impressed. I have been fabricating and involved in building works for decades but I have to be honest and state this is way beyond my skill level. If I hadn't watched the videos I would not have believed such a project existed. What do you do for a living that has given you the many different skills you have demonstrated in this immense project? If he had permission to do it he would have just worked in normal working hours and let the neighbours know. Like anyone with any house works. Colin, great project and stunning amount of enthusiasm and effort!! From a geologist - your fossil is a fossil. Your Quartz is Calcite. Your leaf is stained Calcite and your "dissolved salts" are dissolved limestone from acidic water percolating through the formation. I’m impressed by almost everything in this video….but I’m particularly impressed with the handles on those tubs. 😂
Just spectacular. Thanks for taking us along on this amazing journey under your property!
I have an IDEA:
The turn mechanism doesn't necessarily have to be underground.
How about something like ikea's snurrad.

I’m appreciating how hard and dedicated this man is because I would dig a 2 inch hole and quit on the spot and never do it again but Colin he dedicated and I appreciate that😊😊
Oh man I forgot about putting the extra dirt in the cereal boxes and making the hydraulic shovel! This entire project has been a blast to watch, thank you for being absolutely brilliant and inspiring us to think big, happy Christmas to you and you and your family too!
bros just casually living everyones childhood dream. Awesome series, watched it all but still went through this whole video in one session cause its just that entertaining to see you have so much passion and love for what you do. Keep it up!
I can't believe you stopped for a year because you didn't want to disturb your neighbours. Mad respect!! My neighbours could take a lesson or two in courtesy from you! 😂

Without doubt my new favorite rock video! great awesome energy! Lots of fun!
I've bandied about the idea of doing something similar in my home. After watching this video, it's clear that I don't have the (1) time or (2) MONEY to get it done right proper. This is exceptionally impressive work!
Watching it all in one piece like this gives you a better idea of how mind-bogglingly massive a project this was. Hats off to you, sir.
The fact that he tried not to disturb the neighbours as much as he could was such a nice thing to do
Truly it is a thoughtful thing since I live in an apartment and the person living on top is always using tools at weird hours I know how it feels 😪
got to dodge the bloody council
It's not a "nice thing to do".
It's an *appropriate* thing to do.
And he shouldn't be using ANYTHING that can generate *any* noise within any sort of audible range - manual tools covered with white noise, and *_eventually_* increasing the amount of shielding, before proportionately resorting to the use of anything which might lead to an increase in volume.
Not a "nice thing".

I stumbled on your video and I can't believe I watched a 2 1/2 hrs video on building a house tunnel, given I don't know anything about construction. It was really cool to watch and you made it entertaining. UNBELIEVABLE job. First time on your page. Instant sub!
The fact he did this quietly because he was worried about his neighbors and being a bother. Just an overall great guy
He was quiet because he didn't have permission to do it 😂
@@Tenksen if I’m not wrong, dude had an excavator in his yard. What’s a jackhammer in his shed within his property line gonna do besides be loud?
If he had permission to do it he would have just worked in normal working hours and let the neighbours know. Like anyone with any house works. I'm sure he is still a sound dude but it's not why he was quiet. He had to keep it secret and quiet so there wouldn't be any objections before he got planning.
@@Tenksen I can see that but its just hard to believe with what he’s gotten away with so far. You think noise and a construction tarp would be the least of his neighbors concerns at that point. Plus he’s doing everything right at least that’s what it seems. But the context I got was he wanted it to be a surprise in the video.. so that’s why he was being quiet about it.
im sure the 17 concrete trucks during daylight hours never raised an alarm.
15:40 well put! explained simple and in detail
yea what was that about XD
@@coolerificmiller9475 Probably an accidental volume error. You could hear how it dipped out then roared back in after he was done talking.
I'll assume he was telling us tomorrows winning lottery numbers.
This is absolutely incredible! I can't believe 3 guys designed, engineered, and put into action ALL OF THIS! Not sure why I wasn't subbed to this channel long ago.
Go back and watch some old stuff.
Highlights
Ring of death ( ladders scare me 🤣🤣)
Pulse jet arm burn
French fart 💨
Oh so many, watch it all hilariously brilliant

Just amazing. Keep up the fantastic work Colin.
For a pre-Covid project, this seems absolutely insane.
For a Covid-times project, this seems perfectly well adjusted.
How times have changed.
Hahahaha yes same here nothing says i survive covid pandemic on my own terms like no masks and my own damn el chapo style tunnel under my shed home and into my bunker because I'm some sort of mad engineering genius with tons of tools and know how and balls the size of 600 lbs hog lol
My job never slowed and I never worked from home - I feel so cheated. 😫
@@angellopez1418 Don't forget also having the tons of money to pay for all the tons of steel and tons and tons of concrete!
@@brokenrecord3523 same. As someone that works in manufacturing connected to the farming and food industry we didn't get the luxury of working from home.
@@johnbeck1978 I'm energy. If you can work well from home, that's great, but I am seeing a lot of lousy service from "inside" sales, IT, and such who seem to be doing their job in their spare time.
I imagine the neighbors looking out the window and every time they just see Colin staring out the window right back at them waiting patiently for them to leave the house.
1:05:55 The Spiffing Brit would approve.
Honestly this whole video was amazing to watch. I just found your channel through your last video and I am amazed I haven't heard of you before because this is some of the most entertaining videos you can get on youtube.
Ha! Ha! Ha! The next one furzified! One of us! One of us!
I can't believe it's been 3 years already 😐 absolutely love this project ❤️ thank you for this ❤️
Me neither, In my mind it was like a year at best.
Really Love your projects, but am blown away by your attention to detail 👍
Your videos motivated me to get more active at home. Since lockdown I’ve built an outdoor covered bbq, a workshop and am currently converting the garage into a study.
Thank you for your entertaining videos and tips and tricks 👍
This has to be one of the best and most well put together videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. 2.5 hours long and I didn't get bored during any of it. It flowed awesomely and had lots of interesting and funny parts alike. Love the editing as well as the personality in the video. Great job!!!
