      Honestly, from what I've experience, you can't trust any people to not be naturally selfish at any given moment. We all do things to benefit ourselves. Even stuff that might do the opposite at the moment, we still wish it would benefit us somehow later.
      Basically, don't expect people to go out of their way to help you. Be glad and thankful for whoever does but never put your full trust in someone else. Self reliance is key to success.

      note: this is a newbie avocado grower comment so, don't be cruel :) ...compost can (allegedly) kill avocado if you put it on avocado root... compost usually goes on the top of the soil !? correct me if i'm wong. worm castings goes around the root. blend lava rock sand is commonly known as "sharp (river) sand" ... minerals are another (agriculture/science) story :) all the best !

    • @SanGerman59Holguin79

      Before applying compost make sure the decomposition process is done. While decomposing, compost material can reach really high temperatures which will kill almost any tree / plant.

It was its second time last year that it gave around 100 avocados. I gave to families and friends by the bag so they could share with their family. The other 2, one is from my backyard avocado and the one is different kind. they all was grown in compost instead of water.

      Always better to plant during cool months to establish the roots system before the heat arrives. In our desert, some trees and palms can be planted in summer. If you are planting an avocado, make sure if gets a lot of water and shade for the first couple of years. The avocado used in the video, is made to withstand our heat, but still needs care. Avocados are picky about their environment.

    I rooted 10 avocados four years ago and didn't really think much would happen and certainly didn't expect them all to root let alone thrive when I planted them. I planted them 5 at a time in two pots because we are military and I couldn't have 10 trees in pots growing and expect to be able to take them with me when we move.. I now have Two pots with a mass of avocado trees that are 7 ft tall. I now live in DC so they stay out all summer but I move them in in the winter. They are so big that now I have to make a decision on what to do with them. Can I leave them planted in a mass like I have them already and should I or should I say can I prune them back to encourage fuller trees . Final question since I anticipate a yes to the pruning when would be the best time to prune them back ? Now..or in the Fall just before I bring them in for the winter, or wait till spring. I am growing them for their beauty not necessarily for their fruit.

    • @brodie777
      @brodie777 7 років тому +5

      Hi j.mie. I don't know if you ever got an answer to your question. Prune lightly anytime of the year. Heavy pruning is better done in late winter. Just cut back top/side branches to the height and width you want. Your trees should be fine if they are getting good care. Another option for keeping them in the container size you desire, is called root pruning. This is a bit more work, but can be done by removing the tree, trimming the roots back and redressing the container with new potting soil. This can be done about every 2 or 3 years, depending on the roots vigor.

      some people prune in the winter for something to do in the slow time of year. A fruit tree pruner told me prune your branches to hang low when they fruit for easier picking does that make sense.not sure if this good advice but i cross my branches to so if need be they can rest on the bigger branches, and you can twist tie them together for lateral strength . But thats probably just way over board.

    • @misterjesp
      @misterjesp 8 років тому +1

      The best way to grow an avocado in the UK would ideally be in a greenhouse that stays above 1 deg. Celsius in the winter. young avocados die somewhere around 0 deg. Celsius and older established trees get damaged at that temp.
      The second thing you'd try (but cannot guarantee) is planting on well draining soil along a south -facing wall --- never near or against a building. you'd have to protect the tree in the winter from the northern wind and keep it short and branching sideways to make it easy to protect.
      Avocados need well draining soil but also a good amount of water in the summers and a lot of fertilizer. if the soil has bad drainage, you'll have to make a small hill to plant the tree.
      hey, you never know what you can achieve until you try it!

      Depends: are you growing from a grafted tree or from seed? Chill hours, sun exposure and tree health probably play a role, too. I was reading that grafted trees will produce fruit before one grown from seed.

    One day the supermarket had a sale on avocados so I bought a whole bunch of them I enjoyed them immensely decided I would through the seeds into my compost area I didn't know how it would land I didn't concern myself with it at all because all I was doing was throwing seeds in that area and piling grass and leaves on them, perhaps a month later I see five avocado trees/plants growing out of my compost area immediately I transplanted them into the ground with lots of the compost, they grew fine but sad thing is that I tried to sell them bare root and that didn't work they died almost instantly I still have two left, that survived a major hurricane storm, winds blew it down almost killed it I ended up having to cut it about 4 inch from from the ground and then the following season it grew out from the side and now I have 7 ft trees again

    I have planted two avocadoes in my backyard in the one space where there would be room for it to grow. They did well for about two years and then I got some heavy rain. Once every two years, I will have about a quarter inch of standing water in the backyard for a day or two. That is all it takes to drown my avocado trees. :- (

      You can only use human poop in compost if you are vegan

    Worm castings are cheap, if you have your own worm bins.
    You should have shown how big that hole really should have been. About three times as wide and deep might have been big enough. "For a $1 tree, dig a $10 hole" is an old saying. I'm guessing that tree would have sold for $50-$100 or more.

    In my country the Philippines.we just put avocado seeds on top of the soil and now we have lots and lots of beautiful avocados. We don't need a friend asking too many questions and talking nonstop just to plant a single Avocado tree.

    You should plant a tree the same size from the same graft next to it without any of the extra stuff which you add to see if it actually makes any difference...it's seems that you are over complicating a natural process...

    so u problem already answered this but big debate on UTUB land on weather you eat an avocado seed and weather can break open stone fruit pits and eat seed like would walnut. some say good for may have cancer fight stuff normally not get. other came lot bad posies stuff in it. like should not eat apple seed yet seen brother juice up apple steam and all. what you guys think. in past always through pit away or try grow bow staff out of it. On other had when young never ate avocados or kewees kinda learn curve on figure how eat some things. for people eat lot peaches, plumes and avocados it could be huge untaped food source or could trip hospital?

      rodney adams Dried and peeled avacado seed ground is good for my salads and smoothies. Dried seed coating powders is good in vinegar as an astringent and antibacterial skin surface. Always check and double check facts as the whole material is balanced in nature and beneificial or not edible from plant to plant.
