Great video and a great avocado! I had one of these not too long ago, saved the seed, planted it and the stem has finally pushed through. Can't wait to see what the fruit will be like. Cheers.

I grew up in south FL and this is the variety that is growing in every backyard in Fort Lauderdale. I now prefer Haas but the Florida Avocado (as we always refer to it) is still really delicious. Enjoy!

I remember seeing twice bigger than the ones on the vid. Somewhere in FL, Kissimmee or Lakeland, I don't remember exactly where. I saw those huge trees on every backyard only thing they have less taste

How do you know this is the exact variety? 'Catalina' is a large very common variety in South Florida ( especially amongst Cubans), so is Doni, Pollock, Dupuis, and Simmonds, amongst others, 'Bernecker' I'm not too familiar with.

Like you guys said, those guys are pretty standard here in Florida. I pop the seed out, then add pink salt and olive oil, and mix it up in the skin, using the halves like bowls.

They are shaped as the same ones that we have here in Puerto Rico. but mine are a bit smaller and very sweat. I was given the round one which tastes like butter and also tastes great but this 2 are babies still. I can't wait for my big avocado tree starts giving. Great video

Interesting. I open cados the same way. In CA there is a "Daily 11" cado tree that puts out about 3-5 lb fruits. There is also a gourmet cado called a Jan Boyce that you can not find very easily, but a few nurseries have them in stock as trees. The Jan Boyce is supposed to be the BEST tasting cado anywhere. It is about 11-15oz in weight though but folks love it. I have not had one. I am hunting down a Daily 11, Macarthur, Fuerte and Sir Prize.

It won't hurt the seed, if you use the knife to hit, twist and remove the seed from the flesh. The part you'd hit is the part of the seed that feeds the growing shoot. (I've started many avo seeds after removing the seed that way. No worries!)

Looks like a Fuentes avocado, or that's what we call them here in SoCal. I'm not much of a fan of Fuentes' taste. Fuentes are bigger, the skin is thinner, more delicate, glossy and a pretty green. The shelf life is very short, so it is for personal use. The Haas is the typical commercial avocado. I personally like a Reed avocado. I have an avocado grove that happened to come with a property we bought. I have two Fuentes and a few Reed trees just for our use. The other 1100 Haas trees are for market only. I have another 16 various fruit trees that were planted for personal use. I'm still learning about avocados in general.
