  • Here I am admitting defeat and finally taking a much-needed break from running, in the hope that I will be fresh and well-rested for my next challenge.

yup 👍🏼 our body needs a break and recovery too..

I've learnt that over time. We can't just keep pushing and expect our bodies to cope with the demands. We need to be kind and look after it 😊

Hi Yuenny. Good plan. Knowing when to rest is as important as knowing when to push through. You have had a punishing schedule this year. A break before the next marathon training block sounds like an excellent idea. Enjoy.👍

Thanks 😊 It'll only be a little break, as Chicago Marathon training starts again soon but it'll be slow, steady and gradual this time. Are you training for anything else at the moment? (Sorry if you already told me).

@@YuennyLam I had a trail run in Sherwood Pines the same day as UTS25, but I don't have anything else planned for definite. I need to find something to help overcome the post London blues.

@@tonymayall5039 That was it. How did it go? I keep feeling like I need something else too. I know I have Chicago in October but it feels like a long way away 😄

@@YuennyLam Yes, it was very pretty. Running along narrow forest trails and fire breaks. Weather was hot, but the course was mainly in the shade, so was perfect. It was only three weeks after London, so just cruised around enjoying it and definitely not chasing times. I think I will look for something similar in the late summer, then maybe a couple of half marathons towards the end of the year. But I'm not sure what the next 'big' challenge will be. After your last marathon block, is it motivating or daunting to have Chicago lined up?

@@tonymayall5039 Glad it was nice and you enjoyed it. I'm sure the shade really helped on a hot day. I had no shade whatsoever in Snowdon 😬 I find it motivating that I have another "big" Marathon lined up. Even before I ran Manchester, I knew I wouldn't want to stop after. So knowing there's something else waiting for me made me feel good about running. It also helps knowing it's far enough into the future where I don't feel like I'm rushing into the next thing. I think knowing I have other races coming up helps my mind and motivation. I just need some smaller ones throughout summer 😊

I'm happy to see you recovering and prioritising listening to your body. I learnt after a while that following the signs from my Garmin is so important and more important than pushing on with more running when you know deep down that your body isn't ready for it. Hope you feel better and more recovered soon =D

I felt like I've pushed my body hard enough over the last few months. Even when it was screaming at me in pain, I kept going. So I think it was time to give it a break so I can be ready to push hard again. Garmin does give you interesting information 😊 Hope you're still enjoying yours!

@@YuennyLam Yes, you've been a trooper maintaining your schedule! Recovery is definitely advised especially for long-term goals. How has your HRV been over the past while? Yes, thank you I'm loving it! Started to pay more attention to my 7-day acute load more nowadays to keep me in the optimal range and avoid injuries.

@@mikestevenson1334 My HRV is generally showing as Balanced which is good. I don't pay enough attention to the Garmin stats but I've recently been trying out Zone 2 training to help my easy runs stay 'easy'. Even though I'm a slow runner, I always end up running too fast and I think there's a lot of benefits running slower when the runs are meant to be easy. Glad you're enjoying your watch 😊
