Leah, THANK YOU! for making the decision of posting videos. I just ran into your channel. You do an awesome job. I love how you seem so natural and inspiring. Keep up the good work.. Please!
Hey P.J., glad you found us! We put out new videos every Tuesday and Thursday. You can also find our whole collection of 280 videos sorted by category on the seejanedrill website. Welcome!
i think for a small project this would be convenient. I still have a can of leftover stain from a bench I made last year; fortunately it came in handy with my bookshelves I made over the summer. So I can see the usefulness of this for smaller projects where you don't want to have extra cans hanging around-esp when you have no space to store it (I have no garage, no basement and live in an old house with only 3 very small closets!) Thanks for the honest review.
Thanks Leah, for something that is fast and fairly easy to use it looks like a good product. It’s always nice to hear and see if a new product works. Thanks for the review and nice presentation.
I'm in the middle of refinishing my table and 1 door and came to your channel looking for sanding videos since I don't know what I am doing. This product looks like a nice alternative, but I'd still add a clear coat so it would have a better sheen. It will be too late, but please add a Sanding 101 video so next time I will do it correctly. :)
Thanks for saving all your viewers the time and money checking out new products - some are real time savers and worth the money...some are just gimmicks. We just bought a house where all the molding is stained in a finish I don't like and I'm not sure I want to paint them. Videos make gel stain sound like an easy to use product - do you have experience with them? .
You are generous with a B class. C+ for me. No finish no deal but hey great for emergency stains without the cleanup. I really like your vids. Cheers from a new sub.
Awesome video. I'm a bit skeptical of the "finishing" part though as to me a finish involves more of a shiny surface. I think these cloths would be great for projects that might be done with kids, such as doll furniture, etc. But, for items used heavily, I would prefer to stain and then apply a durable finish as well. Thank you for sharing this video.
Leah! Could you please please touch on the topic of polyurethane and the best ways to apply it? I have a kitchen that is stained, but has no poly on top- The few portions I've tried to add the poly to ended up looking a bit uneven and heavy/wet/thick looking. Both are oil based. Any info at all would be great, if you deem it worth posting about :) Love your videos! Easily one of my favorite channels on UA-cam :)
i have experienced most of these time saving or step products to not be as great as shown. im sure there might be an application for a new person or someone who is not experienced or does not have the rags and stuff. thanks for demonstrating it
The color is nice , I was wondering was that plain wood and if you had pre-stain on the piece? The sheen is not enough for me so.... can we put a coating of polyurethane to it?
Satin sheens have their place. But the container is just like the ones used for baby wipes and pet wipes. Those wipes dry out. I wonder if distilled water would help these wipes if they dried out. Really appreciate your time on this - I’m going to be sticking with the old stuff😆
Yes, that is a good point, Elaine. I know exactly what you mean about those packages going dry over time. It still might be a good option for some people, though, especially if they can use up most of the package within a couple of months.
l'd love to see a fallow up how does the finish hold up to conventionality treated wood? can you put a finish over it? nice idea maybe as a two step with separate stain and finish cloths
Wau Leah, you are amazing U know a lot of things and thank U so much for sharing them and U know what alzo I love the way U splain slow, nice and clear. See U on ur next one.👍👋👋👋
Neat idea, but I'm really wondering what the advantage is? Dipping into the can doesn't seem like too great a problem to me, but that's just me. I suspect where this would shine is if you have a small project done by somebody who doesn't do a lot of woodworking. Again, great video as usual. Out of curiosity, did you feel like you could have done 50 square feet with that package, based on your use?
@@thespoilerchic It is only a stain , they do not have shine to them. It is to stain the wood only, hence wood stain, use a sealer or urithane or varnish etc after if you want a shine.
Thanks for trying that out for us so we don't have to. It would be cool if it really worked like it advertises on the package. It is neat and might be good for kids, for people who don't have a shop or other similar area where making a mess won't be a huge deal,or for people like my dad and brother who can't hold a brush, but only if it really did leave the glossy finish that we like. Because it doesn't really look like it has the type of finish coat that we would all expect it should have based on the package, I don't think it lives up to expectations. Thanks, again, for testing those out for us.
can you make a vid about making stimates on small projects, how much to charge or how to charge, per hr or day? or what works better for you. i like your vids a lot I work as an apprentice and the other day someone ask me if i could built a deck or if I knew someone that did. by know i know i can build a deck or at least that one i could. but i dont feel as comfortable yet taking on jobs like that, plus i dont know how to estimate. i really hope you read this comment.
Agreed and there is no need for the left over stain to go to waste. I must have a dozen part used cans in my workshop and they all get used occasionally. Family and friends also know that I keep a supply of stain and often turn up asking to use some for small one off project. I'm the same with left over paint and I keep that handy. Even if I don't want a particular colour I can use it for base coats on my boat before hiding it under a couple of top coats. It must be having parents who lived with war-time rationing that makes me hesitate before wasting anything.
Same here Tony - just can't bear to waste things, and for the same reason. Recently cleaning up some drawers I got 'the look' and was told "I know you like to save twist ties from bread wrappers, but don't you think we have enough??"
Please do a review of aquacoat, I absolutely love the stuff. I've only found it online but it is amazing. You can use one coat for a simple sheen to four coats with a total glass finish. Super easy to use, I want all the your other viewers to know about it. Also soap and water cleanup.
Thanks for testing. I wish the shean was better as well. B is a good grade. PS you You Tube is awesome. If I can't figure something out, I go to your you tube channel. Keep up the great work
I'm with you Leah, I'd like more of a protective sheen layer in there, that little glint of shine makes a difference, and at that price I don't know that I'd make the extra purchase to carry on. I guess it would depend on the project at hand...Actually, no, I'd be forced to go the extra mile for the durability, no sense in doing it halfway, and that's what it would look like, an unfinished project. Now I think this would be great on picture frames, floating shelves, and a rustic hutch or armoire (if it's enough).
That don't sound bad if you have a job which isn't very large and you don't care about the sheen being there on the wood. In some cases you would want a finish to look brighter though like doing furniture, and that would not be what I would buy to finish such a job.
To me, it makes little sense to have a ton of packages that are designed for different sheens. This product looks like it works well but is very expensive. Apply and then put on a top coat of MinWax Poly in the sheen you desire. That said.. buy some MinWax water based wipe on stain and it will also dry in one hour.. Ok, you still have to buy gloves and an application rag. MUCH cheaper, just as easy and it also drys in an hour. Then, as with the demonstrated product.. you add a coat of wipe on MinWax Poly.. be it Satin,Semi Gloss or Gloss.. your choice.

Woohoo! I bought these a while ago to refresh some of my wood trim, then chickened out! Love that I get to see it in action first!
So glad I buy this product after watching this I used it on my 1954 Gottlieb Jockey Club pinball wood rails and turn out amazing
Thank you Leah for trying this product. I'm looking forward to trying this method. I don't mind needing to paint on a protective finish.

Hi Becky, thanks, glad you liked the vid!
followed an image to get here and almost didn't watch it. Then I realized it was seejanedrill. I'm in!

Fantastic video and stage presence!
Right on Leah. Thanks for the info. Your videos are a great resource and your effort is appreciated.
Thanks, Jason!

For ease of use i would say this is for beginners with a suggestion of a wax/polish of some sort to use after it dried mainly for small projects.
Cool product. I love the fact that it dries in a hour.
That’s what I like! I’m sick of waiting all day 😂
Nice quick product. Thanks
Always like watching your videos

seejanedrill Ms Leah if you end up with them drying out, you could do a video on rehydrating them😀
Impressive and I prefer a matte finish so I think I'll give it a try.
Good the used towlet be put in a snackbag if it wasnt used up for a later use ?
I don't see why not
Incredibly helpful!
Leah, do you know how to remove a seal/stain on concrete floors in an indoor hallway? Thanks, for sharing the new product!
l'd love to see a fallow up how does the finish hold up to conventionality treated wood?

yes you can

Out of curiosity, did you feel like you could have done 50 square feet with that package, based on your use?
Hey David, you know what? Interestingly enough, yes, I did feel like the package could cover 50 sq feet.
Love everything you do. Keep it up!
I agree with you Leah...it just looks like a stain only. I'd much rather use a wipe on poly over that.
Right no shine
@@thespoilerchic It is only a stain , they do not have shine to them.

Hi LInda, yep, I agree. I gave it a "B" because it basically did what it said it would do...except for the glossy finish.
can you make a vid about making stimates on small projects, how much to charge or how to charge, per hr or day? or what works better for you. i like your vids a lot I work as an apprentice and the other day someone ask me if i could built a deck or if I knew someone that did. by know i know i can build a deck or at least that one i could. but i dont feel as comfortable yet taking on jobs like that, plus i dont know how to estimate. i really hope you read this comment.
I dunno... you can buy a whole quart of stain for that price, and old holey socks/t-shirts are essentially free LOL
Thank you for testing it Leah !
Agreed! But there might be some cases where people would find it useful. 🙂 I just can't resist trying new things when I see them in the store!
It would be very handy for the one off, or unusual color you need for a project... says the man with 9/10ths of a gallon of blue paint left over !
🙂
Agreed and there is no need for the left over stain to go to waste. I must have a dozen part used cans in my workshop and they all get used occasionally. Family and friends also know that I keep a supply of stain and often turn up asking to use some for small one off project.

I agree
A wood stain does not have a shine to it , you need to apply a finish like urithane or or something else after the stain.
Gooooood company minwax

Hi Sidney. Yes, that is what I thought too. I was hoping for more of a sheen.
Kind of expensive in the store. I ordered them off of Amazon for $1.97 per pack
To me, it makes little sense to have a ton of packages that are designed for different sheens. This product looks like it works well but is very expensive. Apply and then put on a top coat of MinWax Poly in the sheen you desire.

Wow it’s 14.99 at Home Depot in Canada, not 8.99
The packs need clear dates of expiration, my pack dried right away, leaving a mess.
This is not a cost-effective product. I normally stain with a rag anyways so, why not buy a can of stain and use a rag and get the same results.
Its $9.91 on the link you said was cheaper. Sucky product anyway.
