Nice one Graham, enjoyed that. Good to see you trying out different tents, I like the shape of that MH tent, from a distance the lighter front panel might look like a rock ;) and definitely wise to move your pitch - the tent might be ok in winds but I'm unsure if it would handle a tree dropping down on it 😂 I've solo camped at Blawearie and didn't find it too scary - the swings are creepy tho lol - there must have been a lot of happy times had there back in the day and it sounds like it was inhabited for well over 100 years, and I believe a water source would have either been in the form of a well - maybe in that 'toilet shaped' structure - or there's what looks like a culvert bricked archway on the east side of the crags as you enter the garden area - where water could have been diverted from the Harehope Burn. TFS :)

Some good points there, you're right, there must have been plenty of happy times there and that's an interesting idea about a well/ culvert. It's definately a beautifully atmospheric place that I'll keep going back to. Cheers Donna and TFW 👍

Interesting vid Graham, that place is fantastic and you can feel the atmosphere of the place.
I did a solo there once and just didn't look at the swings🤣 I heard one noise just before I fell asleep, it was a branch snapping as though it was stood on.
I'd do it again but I'm concerned about the farmer patrolling now and again, he seems a nice chap but I don't think he'll be impressed with the fire pits.

Great camp Graham at a special place. Blawearie has an atmosphere all of its own though I once passed and there was a fashion shoot there haha. I had a Mountain Hardwear Sprite tent for years and never had an issue, summit camped on Munros with no problem, a great, very lightweight little tent. Take care. Mick.

Blawearie is a very interesting place. The farm is on OS mapping from the1800's but not on Armstrong's map of 1769. Not very old but there is evidence of human activity in the area going back to the stone age. There is an iron age fort 500m to the SE, which is the earliest recorded settlement nearby. I reckon prehistoric wild campers would have stayed there, sitting on the very same crags as you were, enjoying the same views. When you had the feeling about the past being closer to the present. I think what you are feeling is an instinctual connection to the past, which is enbedded in your DNA. Its hard for me to explain and is a bit deep so bear with me. Why does a domesticated dog walk around in circles, flattening down imaginary grass but has never experienced sleeping in the wild?. Behaviour is stored in genes and possibly other information, we don't yet fully understand. Some of us have that feeling of a spiritual connection, a gut feeling about something, deja vu etc. I believe what we are feeling is the connection to past places through our ancestors and their lifetime experiences. When you explored the crags, you thought it was a great place to hide stuff. Watching your video, I felt treasure could be found there and I thought of the early inhabitants of Blawearie hiding their valuables in those dark nooks and crannies for safe keeping. They didn't have banks in those days and the area would have gone through some violent, turbulent times and been quite lawless. I really enjoyed watching this Graham, thanks for sharing.

I didn’t know that about the maps, interesting stuff. I hear what you’re saying, my dogs exhibit that very behaviour and they’ve never lived in the wild. Perhaps we remember some things instinctually.
There’s is so much history at Blawearie stretching back to the Neolithic that the past seems a lot closer. Thanks for your comments Damian 👍

I've camped down in the thoroughfare, wow I had a abnormal feeling all night, felt OK, until I got in to the tent, I can only describe it as a feeling I haven't experienced before, just spooky, I camped with 2 other mates, just weired , I've heard there is a burial area round there 👀
